Hillbilly hand fishing is an affront to evolution. But at least it features enough wet T-shirt action (with attractive women) to justify its existence. This debacle—where a flash mob of water pistoleros led to the death of koi fish at Balboa Park (near the San Diego Natural History Museum) is beyond heinous. “It was a mess,” John Hittner told examiner.com. The Fishy Business employee reported that “There were a few dead koi, empty bottles, squirt guns, balloons, flip-flops…they broke the drain pipe and some of the old planters collapsed.” I blame the NRA. And call for CA to extend its ban on open carry to squirt guns. Meanwhile park officials should stop being coy about the cause of this koi-tastrophe. If one koi is killed by America’s burgeoning gun culture it’s one koi too many.

  1. I’m living in San Diego. This was a major f-up by park officials. This “event” looks to have been blessed by park officials. If it comes out that way, heads will roll.

It’s sad really, Balboa Park is one of the most scenic locales in San Diego.

  2. “Hillbilly hand fishing is an affront to evolution.”

I see it as an important survival skill that all competent woodsmen should know how to do. I won’t say that I have mastered it, but I’ve at least tried it a few times. It isn’t easy.

    • I’m a competent woodsman, and I am also smart enough not to stick my hand in a hole and wait for it to get bitten who knows what. I use this thing call fishing line, with these things attached to them all hooks. Those items combined with a stick of sizable length and I can fish with out worrying about being bitten by anything.

  3. As a hillbilly from wva catching cat fish is almost in our dna. I don’t “noodle” cats, i use a pole and hook. My less enlightened brethren use things like carbide bombs. I prefer legal and less destructive methods myself.

  4. Awwwww man RF, this is the WORST kind of false advertizing!!!!

Here I am expecting to start my monday off the right way with a “toothless redneck wet t-shirt contest” with squirt-gun even, and all I got was a crappy, poorly lit video, and ZERO wet t-shirts!

    HA-RUMPH!

  5. Unregulated water pistol fight??!! Oh the children!! The children!!!! Apparently some were so terrorized that they ran right out of their flip-flops, and tossed their water bottles away in an effort to escape the carnage! Oh the children!!! I propose regulating water pistols AND water. Unrestricted access to water allowed these criminals to reload mulitple times. And these weapons of wetness should be limited to 3 squirts per loading to minimize the wanton destruction they can cause. Oh the CHILDREN!!!! We need to restrict & license the purchase of these weapons NOW!!! Oh the CHILDREN!!!!!

  6. I feel bad for the koi fish… less so for the drunken party goers.

Water guns are great fun, though… I have lots of fun memories of the neighborhood kids playing “war” with our collection of water guns and water balloons during the warm summer months.

  7. Well it was an idea that got out of hand. I love Balboa Park, their railroad museum is the best.
I don’t know how you can lay blame on anyone but the people in this, but oh well I guess folks will target guns for just about anything.
