LAS VEGAS (AP) – Longtime volunteer Nevada search-and-rescue pilot David Waugh [above] never thought he’d be the one needing help . . . The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Waugh was hunting Dec. 9 with two friends near Reed Cabin Summit when the men split up, hoping to find elk. Waugh got lost overnight with just his rifle. He ate snow and slept on cedar boughs until rescuers tracked him down the next morning. Waugh says the lesson is to always take a backpack with matches and water and energy bars.
