MattV2099 sets out to find the answer to that age old question “How many rubber bands do you need to wrap around a Hi Point CF380 to make it malf?” “Age old” in the sense that you have to be old enough to smoke marijuana to come up with it. I’m not sure what MattV2099 proves with this video – save the fact that “don’t try this at home” is sound advice when it comes to trying to get any gun to fail. Still, that’s entertainment!
The real question us what it takes to make a Hi-Point work reliably…
Let me guess… like most Hi-Point haters, you haven’t actually owned, or even shot one of them? Are they “pretty”? No, most people find them blocky and unappealing. Are they lightweight? No they are heavy like a tungsten ingot. Are they high-tech with a refined mechanism? No, they use one of the simplest and oldest auto-loading actions out there. The good news? All these things combined make them extremely reliable and extremely cheap. You can validly criticise a lot of things about a Hi-Point, but you’re showing your ignorance when you say they are unreliable. Anyone who has owned one, even if they hated it, has only had good things to say about its reliability in my experience.
I would start referring naysayers to Iraqveteran8888’s YouTube channel, specifically the Hi-Point Torture test videos.
And as an owner and lover of the 1911, I can say the only thing that threw me about the Hi-Point .45 was the fact that its balance was comparatively top heavy. I’d hardly call the thing a tungsten ingot. It’s so damn ugly it ought to be in science fiction, but the ergonomics are decent, it points well, and the aforementioned videos show exactly how hard they are to kill.
The reason Hi-Points have a reputation for unreliability is the fact that if there is a +P loading for that caliber, the pistol is rated for it. When you’re loading a straight blowback +P pistol with lower power rounds, is it any surprise that they don’t always feed right? Give her the spicy food and watch her run.
You sir are exactly right. I bought a Hi-Point in .45 ACP as my first handgun. I think they are fantastic guns. Yeah they aren’t pretty and they’re a bit unwieldy but the thing shoots great and I’ve had no issues whatsoever with it. Good call with the IV8888 videos. Those guys are awesome!
Hi-point … the Pachycephalosaurus of the firearm world.

I gotta admit this leaves me scratching my head. You buy a H-Point if you are poor and can’t afford anything better. Yeah, I could make fun of those folks, My Glock, and my Walther, and my Smith, and my Ruger and Smith revolvers are better, but I can afford these things to protect myself and my family and because I just want them. The folks who can only afford one gun, and a cheap one at that, well at least they can buy a Hi-Point. I just hope that the one someone buys and gives to his wife to protect herself and his children works when they need it too!
You can afford better weapons as you don’t spend all your money on rubber bands, marihuana and fotay ounce bottles of malt beverages. These videos prove everyone wants to be famous except me.
No it just means you’re old, you don’t get current internet culture, and probably don’t have a sense of humor (at least not one compatible with younger generations).
No when it comes to playing with deadly weapons or acting like a fool with a pistol I have no humor at all. I have had weapons KB do to people playing around. Friends seriously injured & 1 killed from pure stupidity with junk guns like these & Jimenez Arms pistols. You don’t play around with weapons of any type. Looks cute & funny on a YouTube video but, this type of thing is used by the anti 2-A people to discredit all of us that legally, and use sense in safely using and carrying. They use this kind of crap to advance Bloomberg. etc agendas. If you think they don’t wave goodbye to your weapons when they hit the chop saw.
It’s a high point, what do you expect? Plus this guy is insane, the safety on means the gun is fully safe? Um like I said insane, not to mention a “high point brand glock? Hi point is a brand of firearm, glock is a completely different brand of firearm.
He was joking, most of his videos have jokes of that type to make fun of the youtube gun community and to make people laugh.
HE WAS JOKING!?!? I love Mattv2099. His RHMB vids are fun, too.
You sir need a lesson in sarcasm lmao
Jokes. How do they work?
Man the Hi-point hate-the pistols are crap but the carbines rock for cheap SHTF fun. And I’d get banned on a certain Regular Guys FB page for even mentioning the H word-then again they hate Springfield, some Rugers,Taurus, all Kel-tecs and lots of others besides all Hi-points. Something about “perfect” pistols too…
We have a local shop that sneers at you when you bring in something other than Wilson Combat, Les Baer, etc… Obviously, not my kind of folks. I don’t own any Hi-Points, but I wouldn’t turn down a free one.
I’m so sick of the Hi-Point bashing. Poor people shouldn’t have inexpensive guns available? The fact is that Hi-Points work. They’re ugly, they’re heavy and there are better guns available but if your budget is under $200 and you need a gun a Hi-Point is a good choice.
Gun snobs go pound sand.
Yep. Two of my sons bought C9’s as their first handguns.
Despite purchasing more costly pistols as time went on they’ve kept the Hi Points because..well…they have no resale, lol….and they just run and run. Ugly and heavy but dead reliable and fairly accurate. Really torques the gun snobs off.
Hey, it’ll probably shoot the rubber bands when the mag runs empty. 🙂
I fully agree – poor people have a right to keep and bear arms as well. And in this aspect, the Hi Points perform their job far better than other guns in their price class. They don’t blow up, as some of the die cast/pot metal guns (I’m talking about you, “Ring of Fire” companies…) and they’re reasonably accurate.
I try to be a much more tasteful gun snob than the GLOCK fanboi’s chanting “Perfection!” in an Austrian accent.
Being a snob about a GLOCK is well… like bragging about owning a Chevy Vega in the 70’s.
If it was a Cosworth Vega you had something.
“don’t try this at home” is sound advice when it comes to trying to get any gun to fail”
If you carry a semi-auto pistol for self defense and don’t want to hear a click instead of a bang might want to practice with snap caps, especially new shooters, what with adrenaline dump, clearing a malfunction is not necessarily intuitive.
the hi point has potential

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched that video…
Also “Sweep The Leg” and “Reduced Size Target Systems”…pure gold!
Geez, MattV never ceases to crack me up.
You must be new to MattV’s trollture testing.
You mean his sex lube Glock video was a troll?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8zWAgQ62us
Is the Hi-point Glock the same one in 9mm that Gander Mountain sold as a Sig made quality pistol?
Also what is this new cartridge the. 380 Action Express cartridge.
The video’s may be sarcastically funny however a certain percent will take this guys crap seriously & will actually think they are bjhuying a Glock, Sig or other quality weapon.
Yeah, well, we shouldn’t let the certain percentage dictate life for the rest of us. Natural selection.
I saw several hundred purchase grand-opening special @$149. A $50 saving off a regular price. Personally I would save my pennies for another $50 bucks & purchase a used model 10 or a makarov.
Problem with natural selection is quite a number depend on advice from gun experts on the internet. Sales rep tried to talk me into a brand new’ fotay caliber” for $329 a Hi-Point Bought a used $347 Walther P99 in forty S&W. Fotay. Was how he pronounced it along with holding the pistol sideways. Asked for the manager direct quote we try & talk like.most of our customers.
IF (a big “if”) I were taking it seriously I’d wonder about a “Fotay” that takes 380AE instead of Fotay, on top of everything else you mentioned.
In case it isn’t obvious to everyone, every semi-auto pistol will malfunction if you wrap enough rubber bands around it in different orientations.
Anybody got a Desert Eagle in .50 to test that?
Place your bets, how many rubber bands to choke a D.E..
I had to buy a hi-point one time after my house got robbed and I didn’t have much cash on me.
All it took to make mine fail was add ammo..
I could load a mag, fire once, take the mag out and turn it upside down and all the rounds would fall out..
They might be “fun to shoot” but I’d rather trust my or my families lives with a new pellet rifle than one of those throw away guns..
Actually, the air rifle cost a little more but it’s worth it in my opinion.
I’ve been sitting on the sidelines of the Hi-Point hater vs Hi-Point apologist debate for a while now. My experience was similar to Siris’. I found that the 9mm Hi-Point carbine I owned was VERY magazine sensitive. If they were not “tuned up” to the gun’s satisfaction, it would misfeed, stove-pipe, and do other mean nasty “Group W Bench” types of things. I try my damnedest to NOT bad-mouth HPs with the one caveat that they can be finicky.
A rubber band test? Really? I guess it goes to show that nothing is idiot proof (as I shake my head in disbelief)
You should know by now that nothing can be made idiot proof because the idiots are so ingenious.
I preferred his Twinkie test.
Also, the 600 round mag.
The 600 round mag was priceless.

This is something I have never thought about, let alone ever possibly would have thought to ask.
Well, thanks to Mattv2099 for discovering things no one knew needed discovering.
its a Hi point. just pulling the trigger will cause a malf.
