Utah Architect and dog lover Ron Molen has his proverbial knickers in a twist about gun violence. Mr M.’s written a letter to sltrib.com—which somehow fails to mention that the “homicide” stats cited include suicides. He also throws the word “terrorist” around like a FBI Budget Director lobbying for another suck on the taxpayer tit. I republish the letter here because it’s important to know that gun grabbers are alive and well, even in the heart of gun country.

Recent mass shootings demonstrate a frightening level of gun violence in America, yet hardly mentioned were the more than 32 gun homicides that occur every day.

Billions are spent on anti-terrorist airport security when homegrown terrorists account for a much higher death toll than 9/11 (30,000 gun deaths annually). China is a much safer place to raise children.

The National Rifle Association insists politicians should not overreact, meaning Democrats, since Republicans are already its puppets . . .

Government’s most important function is to provide security for its citizens, and America sets the worst possible example, thanks to a morally blind NRA and GOP. A nation that allows an armed cabal to make public safety policy would have to be labeled a failed state.

In Utah, even the dominant faith indulges a rabid gun culture.

Why respect a nation that fails to provide security for its citizens, or a religion that abhors smoking yet tolerates gun addiction?

If the United States is in decline, as the Roman Empire was, then institutions failing their responsibility must be held accountable for its decadence. Clearly, a morally compromised NRA member like Mitt Romney should never become president.

  1. Government’s most important function is to provide security for its citizens, and America sets the worst possible example

    May have graduated from Architect School, but failed Government and Constitution Classes….

    • That’s what I was thinking. Where in any of the wonderful documents produced by the greatest thinkers of the late 18th century did they say the government was to provide safety to citizens?

    • This is generally considered a Liberal or Democratic core value.
      Not saying good or bad, but it is a modern value that the government should care for it’s people. The way I have seen it written it is care, not protect or provide protection. Many see this as essentially the socialistic values inherent in the modern democratic party.
      So Ron couldn’t get the idea right with out making a serious stretch.
      What he refuses to see is the fact that violent crime is at an all time low. this is all happening as places like Utah have turned pro gun. Well imagine that…
      Blue dog dems are an endangered species. Many who are middle leaning Democrats are having issues with the current administrations track on things. They continue to vote in line, but are quietly complaining on the side.
      What he doesn’t realize is that we as a community need to work together to ensure our safety. This is for our kids, our elders, and ourselves. If he wants to hand his life and well being over to the all mighty government, that is his choice, but he does not need to make that choice for others.

  2. Why respect a nation that fails to provide security for its citizens, or a religion that abhors smoking yet tolerates gun addiction?

    SO IF I GET THIS STRAIGHT I SHOULD:
    1. DISRESPECT MY COUNTRY
    2. DISRESPECT A RELIGION, BECAUSE THEY FAVOR GUNS OVER CIGARETTES

    THIS IS A FREE COUNTRY, EVEN FOR NUT-JOBS (LIKE MOLEN) WHO WOULD USE SOME OF THOSE FREEDOMS TO ATTEMPT TO DEPRIVE OTHER CITIZENS FROM FREEDOMS THE NUT-JOBS DISAGREE WITH. AS WE CAN SEE FREEDOM IS NOT FREE. AS ALL ISSUES, A DOUBLE EDGED SWORD.

    • Please, stop using caps! It does not help anyone and makes people not want to read what you have said

      • Are you saying that Mormons are hypocrits because they believe that smoking cigarettes is evil but smoking guns are good?

    • This has nothing to do with what the Later-day Saint religion embraces. Even a cursory study of the Bible and Book of Mormon shows that God has always ordained the use of force in the defense of one’s nation, family, and person.

  3. He also forgets to mention that the majority of gun homicides come from gun free metropolises like Chicago. Clearly hefty gun control has done wonders for chicagos murder rate. Or not.

  4. “Government’s most important function is to provide security for its citizens…”

    Big difference between keeping the Russians and Chinese from invading and being every ones nanny.

  5. “Why respect a nation that fails to provide security for its citizens, or a religion that abhors smoking yet tolerates gun addiction?”

    The solution is obvious, Molen: Pack your stuff and move to China. You’d be so much happier there. And among like-minded people.

  6. Thankfully almost no one in this state would agree with this guy. He can keep ranting and whining. Utah will stay gun friendly and keeps getting more so all the time.

  7. I would imagine he could find a nice quiet no gun place to live somewhere north of Siberia where no one would bother him at all!!!
    Hope he has a nice trip!!!
    Sorry mo was supposed to be no!!

    • yes, move north of the arctic circle without a gun. you can reason with the polar bears. use your big words to defend against them. when that doesn’t work, call the chinese for help.

  8. “A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a
    permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until
    the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from
    the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for
    the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury,
    with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose
    fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.”
    “The average age of the worlds greatest civilizations from the beginning
    of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these
    nations always progressed through the following sequence:
    >
    1. From bondage to spiritual faith;
    2. From spiritual faith to great courage;
    3. From courage to liberty;
    4. From liberty to abundance;
    5. From abundance to complacency;
    6. From complacency to apathy;
    7. From apathy to dependence;
    8. From dependence back into bondage ”

  9. I thought that people were supposed to grow wiser with age, but maybe not. I think that our boy Ron can look forward to assisted living in the near future, and nobody will come to visit.

  10. “A nation that allows an armed cabal to make public safety policy would have to be labeled a failed state.”

    I agree 1000% with his conclusion. What he fails to grasp is that our government is that “armed cabal [which] make[s] public safety policy”.

  11. And then we have this gem, “Government’s most important function is to provide security for its citizens …”

    Wrong. Government’s most important function is to secure liberty for its citizens. Securing liberty is NOT providing individual security to citizens; that is up to the individual.

  12. This person is an idiot, to be sure, but I don’t think he’s simply ignorant of the true oppressive nature of China. I think he loves it. Remember, morally bankrupt people are not adverse to oppression, only oppression of themselves. People like him would gladly see people imprisoned, executed, controlled, and enslaved so long as it didn’t touch upon his life and his values. If it were up to people like him, anyone he disagrees with would be arrested and executed. Such is the way of most every gun-grabber and hard-line leftist.
