Christie Files (above) called the Jacksonville, Florida sheriff Sunday night after her stepson, Bryan Layfield, had been shot and killed. She told the local 5-O that she’d seen two unidentified suspects hopping her back fence after she heard the gunshot. Upon further investigation, however, constables found a bloody .22 rifle stashed in Files’ attic. It didn’t take much longer to determine that, in fact, Layfield had accidentally been shot inside the home . . .

While the the article at news4jax.com studiously avoids saying exactly who shot Master Layfield, it seems a safe bet that Ms. Files (who apparently is no relation to Packers linebacker Clay Matthews) pulled the trigger.

Police have not released a report on the shooting itself. Other than a preliminary statement given at the scene Sunday night, the Sheriff’s Office has only said: “This is an active homicide investigation. The victim did not shoot himself.”

Like her husband, the late Bryan’s father, Files is currently an all-expenses-paid guest of Jacksonville’s taxpayers where she’s been charged with tampering with evidence. You don’t have to be Nostradamus to see the possibility of a manslaughter charge in her future, too. In any case, we sincerely hope she doesn’t stash the IGOTD trophy she’s about to receive in her attic. It may be all she has to fend off real bad guys should she make bail.

    • Found some at Cabelas this morning. Like seeing a unicorn or winning the lottery.

A nice pheasant rooster flew across the highway in front of me about 15min earlier (today in Iowa about the same %).

      • I see .22lr so often, I pass on it, because I know there will likely be some there tomorrow if I need it. My local Academy has a very steady supply, and I can ususally get 500rd packs. Cabelas less so, but I still see it often enough.

  1. “Files (pictured in booking photo) admitted that Layfield was shot accidentally inside the home.”

Talk about your passively-constructed confession of the day.

  2. You kept misspelling he with she.

“Like his husband, the late Bryan’s father, Files is currently an all-expenses-paid guest of
Jacksonville’s taxpayers where he’s been charged with tampering with evidence.”

  3. This sucks, I feel sorry for the teen. My condolences to his family.

But I have to say, the Clay Matthews reference was epic

  4. “In any case, we sincerely hope she doesn’t stash the IGOTD trophy she’s about to receive in her attic. It may be all she has to fend off real bad guys should she make bail.”

If it’s got a smooth shape, it might be “keister”able. In the alternative, how many batteries does it take?

  5. I’ll bet she’s got everything a man would want! Combat boots, mustache, hair on her chest, leather skivvies, everything!

  6. I can’t believe the cops didn’t shoot her on sight because, y’know, cops are known for shooting scary looking dogs.

  7. I thought that Christie Files had something to do with investigating lane closures on the George Washington Bridge.

  8. She looks like the sasquatch that ate Clay Matthews then got a wax in the Packers Training room.
