Repeat after me: guns and alcohol don’t mix. Got it? Good. Here’s an addendum to the original rule: Guns, alcohol and family drama are even worse than guns and alcohol are on their own. Did you write that one down? Excellent. Too bad Robert Foote wasn’t aware of it. Despite a protective order prohibiting him from touching a gun, he was out in his yard drinking and shooting on Monday. He then threw a little more kerosene on that growing bonfire by getting into it with his estranged wife . . .

Probably coming to the entirely reasonable conclusion that arguing with an armed drunk is kind of a no-win proposition, Mrs. Foote decided that just about anywhere else was a better place to be at that moment. So she got in the car along with their two year-old daughter. We’ll let wavy.com take it from there:

When the woman began to leave in a vehicle, (Suffolk PD spokeswoman Debbie) George said Foote tried to grab (the) two-year-old through the window and was also trying to put his gun in his holster at the same time.

Betya know what happened next. Yep, Foote shot himself in the…leg. (I know, a round through his shoe would have been so much more poetic, right?)

Nevertheless, besides the soreness of the new orifice, Rob’s now dealing with a plethora of charges including child endangerment, abuse and neglect of children, reckless handling of a firearm and violation of provisions of a protective order. Given everything on his plate, we’re not sure he’ll be able to fully appreciate the honor being bestowed on him as our IGOTD. But his wife will probably explain it to his daughter for him some day.

  1. Mr Foote was able to procreate a child, let’s hope her mother raises her better than he would,

  2. Too bad he didn’t shoot something that would have removed his gene’s from
    The gene pool!!!!!

  3. Taking such actions, people need to be held accountable to pay for their own medical care, court fees, and prison accommodations.

  4. I don’t think this should qualify as Irresponsible Gun Owner of the Day.

My view of the category is someone who is a legal gun owner who does something stupid or irresponsible. Something that the rest of can learn from.

This guy was forbidden from touching a gun in the first place.

So, for me, I don’t think he qualifies.

Maybe just “Idiot of the Day”.

    • IDK, but shooting in violation of a court order while downing oat sodas seems IGOTD-worthy to me. Oh, forgot the whole shooting himself in the leg while grabbing for a toddler through a car window thing, too. But maybe that’s just me.

  5. Is it just me? Or does this guy have more than a passing resemblence to Lee Harvey Oswald?
