So will you be first in line at your local fun store for all the Black Friday deals tomorrow? As is always good practice, keep your head on a swivel. From lcsun-news.com: “A 65-year-old man is in stable condition Tuesday afternoon after being accidentally shot at a gun shop on Hudson Street in Silver City (NM). Silver City Police Chief Ed Reynolds said an employee at Copper County Sporting Arms was unloading a .45 caliber handgun when the weapon went off and hit the customer in the back.” The shot shopper was airlifted to a hospital and let’s hope he makes a full recovery. As for the, um, expert behind the counter, he’ll be receiving not only our IGOTD trophy, but also the undying gratitude of just about every news outlet on the net that likes nothing better than to publicize a negligent discharge like this one. Nice job there, Cletus.

  1. This needs more info. Why was the gun loaded in the first place? Were they at a display counter or at the firing range? (if the store even has one)

    • I believe the gun in question was being open carried by another customer, and upon noticing it the employee told the customer that loaded guns weren’t allowed in the store. The guy carrying the gun offered to clear it, but the employee told the carrier that HE would clear it, because HE was the gun store employee and therefore he was the only person professional enough and well trained enough to handle that weapon. And then he capped the other customer in the back just to show that he wasn’t scared to shoot a man. Or something like that. Actually, the true story is that he was just trying to demonstrate how easy it is to unload that particular weapon (one round at a time).

  2. Have to wonder if this gun shop allows customers to shot firearms before purchasing
and the ex-employee was unloading such a weapon when it discharged.

  3. Been there was in a gun store when a employee thinking a .22lr pistol was unloaded and shot the floor of the shop. Happens more than you think.

  4. Bummer on the shooting.

Silver City is a great little town. Been there several times and can say it is the only town (out of many) in New Mexico I like.
