John Coscia, owner of John’s Gun & Tackle Room in Easton, PA, has had his troubles in recent years. He’s been robbed twice in the last decade and was roughed up both times. He also became a target of Hizzoner Mike Bloomberg’s anti-gun jihad when guns Coscia sold turned up in NYC criminal investigations. Now, elementary gun handling seems to be an issue…

Coscia shot himself in the hand last week with a Glock 9mm he’d just taken as a trade-in. That’s right. A gun store owner receives a gun off the street and doesn’t do the most fundamental safety check just about every newbie gunowner is taught – check the chamber to make sure it’s clear.

Worse still, he managed to have his hand in front of the gun when it went bang. Four rules anyone? Anyone?

If you’ve ever been in a gun store, you know it’s hard to avoid being lasered by someone at some point.  It’s usually a customer, but I’ve seen counter help waive heaters around like they’re directing traffic.

It’s easy to rationalize this. All the guns in the shop are unloaded, right? Don’t bet on it. There’s no such thing as an unloaded gun. And don’t hesitate to point out this fact if you’re the laseree. And then step outside the store for a while. Maybe even forever.

  1. If that’s him wearing those god awful shorts in the picture-no wonder he has no attention to detail.

  2. (Don’t think so. Mr. Coscia’s 81 years young) and he also has a hole in his left hand!!!while the man in the picture have those modern holefree hands!!.
