Larry, Larry, Larry. Unfortunately, no one ever told Larry Briggs of Los Banos, California that when you shoot yourself in the leg, it’s pretty obvious. But like so many before him, he tried to blame the whole thing on mysterious pedestrian-shooting gang bangers when the cops arrived and asked him what happened. I guess when you blow a hole in your own leg while slapping your wife around, you don’t want anyone else to know about it . . .
We get the sordid details from mercedsunstar.com:
Briggs reportedly told police he was shot at by several gang members while walking near his home.
Officers and medical staff noticed the wounds appeared to be self-inflicted and weren’t consistent with Briggs’ statement. Once his story was questioned by officers, Briggs became uncooperative, police said.
Upon further investigation police concluded Briggs accidentally shot himself after allegedly threatening his wife with the firearm and slapping her face.
Larry’s probably figured out by now that when you’re beating your wife, it’s a good idea to keep your finger off the trigger if you’re also going to laser your own leg. Not that he’ll get to practice his four rules much since the police confiscated his three shootin’ irons and he’s not likely to get them back. Ever.
Tough guy Larry’s now limping around and facing charges of making criminal threats and inflicting injury on a spouse or cohabitant. He’s also trying to figure out which corner of his Merced County Jail cell will show off his IGOTD award best when it arrives. Don’t worry, Larry. We’ll send it to your wife so she can deliver it personally.
You guys should start sending actual little trophies to people and have a short letter attached explaining what it is and why they got it.
Yeah, I’ve read several of these lately where the negligent guy tried to blame the drive-by shooters. It reminds me of all those so-called legitimate DGUs in which the shooter SAYS he was in lethal danger but he really wasn’t. It’s odd you guys accept the first one and deny the second.
Problem with your argument is that the police don’t generally approach a DGU and go “Oh? You say your life was in danger? Well case closed then.” Cases that have little to no evidence (like the one referenced in the story) tend to not hold up to even a cursory amount of police work. So, yes, if the police agree that it was a legitimate DGU, then most of us will believe it, since it has likely passed their muster.
A baseless “Guilt by Association” attack on everyone who supports
protective self defense laws… *yawn*
“It reminds me of all those so-called legitimate DGUs in which the shooter SAYS he was in lethal danger but he really wasn’t.” Name one. Just one condition-the DGU claiming SYG can’t be a felon (because felons can’t posses guns and we all know that they obey the law).
I’ll answer this one for mikey. He’s going to claim that every murderer who’s facing concrete evidence and tries to claim self defense in a last ditch, Hail Mary, move represents everyone who claims self defense.
This reminds me of the so-called legitimate blogger who SAYS that he makes sense but really doesn’t.
If anything, it proves that many incidents blamed on guns are probably total fabrications. If this guy’s story about the gang bangers wasn’t proven false, you’d be on here crying about how it proves so many criminals are out shooting people, like a good easily-led sheep. Hm, I wonder how many other supposed violent “gun incidents” that you’ve used as examples are total fabrications? Not that antis are averse to fabrications, of course; just look at their false stats, logic, and reasoning.
Got any evidence to show that false claims of self defense make up a significant portion of the 2.5 million DGUs that occur per year? Or any evidence to support anything you have ever posted here? Finally, are you here as an honest debater or a fanatic (meaning: is there any possible evidence that will change your mind)? I’ve asked the second two questions a number of times, yet for some reason you address other points I make in my posts but skip right over them.
Please stop feeding the troll. It just adds to his delusions.
I think you misspelled “moron.”
FLAME REFORMATTED AND DELETED
Mikeb, The courts decide the validity of self defense claims, not
us, the public, or the media. I think the thing you are griping
about is the fact that if there is initial reason (determined by
police) to validate a self defense claim, the suspected defensive
gun user is not arrested, and later tried if neccessary. This is
the same concept as following innocent until proven guilty, and
it’s the way it should be.
I’ve read several of these lately where the negligent guy tried
to blame the drive-by shooters. It reminds me of all those
so-called legitimate DGUs in which the shooter SAYS he was in
lethal danger but he really wasn’t. It’s odd you guys accept the
first one and deny the second. I actually agree with what you
say here. Not being snide or sarcastic. Let’s review. Lots of
people blame a self inflicted wound on drive bys. Police
investigate and find the real reason, arrest the guy and throw him
in jail. Lots of people, you say, claim they were in lethal danger
with a DGU, but really wasn’t. The police investigate and find the
real reason, arrest the guy and throw him in jail. I accept both of
those scenarios. What’s the problem?
Wait… Is it “Los Banos, CA”? Or “Los Baños, CA”? Did they
actually name the town “The Bathrooms”????
Yes JPK they really did and it is just as bad as the public one at
the local truck stop you never go into! It is about 40 minutes
south of us. I swear officer the thing was attacking me! I felt
like my life was in danger! Oh so the little tribble was coming at
you? Yeah it had a mean streak a mile wide, and huge teeth!
makes me giggle. not sure why a 40 yr. old man giggles, but hey….
