Pingoatuk Kolola testified yesterday that he fired the shot that killed a young Mountie from his hip, holding the rifle with his right hand and cradling his eight-month-old son Adam in his left.
Appearing as the only witness for the defence in his first-degree murder trial, Mr. Kolola said he did not remember most of what happened that night in 2007, when he was driving wildly around Kimmirut, a picturesque hamlet of 411 people where alcohol is banned.
“I wasn’t shooting at anything in particular,” he told jurors, speaking in Inuktitut.
