Natalie Portman as a strong women using guns to protect her family in the Old West? This is exactly the kind of movie that helps the cause of gun rights – and justifies my well-established predilection for cowboy hats. (Dan calls me Hopalong Goldfarb – but not to my face.) See you at the movies!
It’s a shame she’s anti gun, but deliciously ironic she doesn’t mind showing guns in a good light.
I was just thinking the exact same thing.
Everyone has a price.
Hollywood is blissfully unaware that every time they show guns being used to right a wrong, or dispense justice they are solidifying gun rights.
Hollywood and television were instrumental in making cigarettes un-cool by simply not showing them in movies and broadcast video.
That is why I stand by my claim Hollywood is one of the of the biggest proponents of gun rights (to their chagrin) and we should fully support them when they market a movie like this one.
Can I hear an ‘Amen’, my brothers and sisters of the Gun?

She’s only anti-gun because she thinks she’s on the side that’ll have them when it all plays out.
JANE GOT A GUN
. . . THROUGH CONFISCATION
A Jewish celebrity who is an antigun liberal? Surprise there! Léon was great, though.
And Heat, and V for Vendetta, and Black Swan.
I would make the argument that Leon would have been a much better movie if her annoying character wasn’t in it.
Just another Hollywood hypocrite. “Guns make me look cool in the movies, but I don’t think anybody should own or use them”.
One of my favorite movies had Jean Reno and Natalie Portman in it. And a potted plant. And Tony Aiello.
And a prime crazy Gary Oldman
And an addict. Ain’t that required of a DEA agent?
All my pedophile friends loved that one;-)
You can’t have pedofile friends without being registered too.
Let’s just hope your registered non-gun posessing frriends liked that movie because of the Director Luc Besson (Lucy, The 5th Elementt, Brazil).
Uh, I was joking. I don’t have any friends. Luc seems to have a thing for very young females though.
Luc Besson is a MASTER.
Brazil was Terry Gilliam
Yeah, I’ve been waiting for a sequel to that movie for 20 years and so far nothing.
IDK, I just really want to see Padme as a sadistic hit woman for hire.
Campaigned for Kerry, Clinton, and Obama.
I am not funding her.
Good point.
Honestly, I don’t understand why people watch movies at all. I usually go once a year on average and the movies always suck anyway.
That’s what I’m thinking. Few Hollywood movies are worth watching, and I don’t need to put money into an anti-gunner’s pocket. My pro gun pockets give money to pro gun campaigns, but she makes a whole lot more than me.
As far as movies go, here’s one with a petite woman who wouldn’t last 2 seconds in a physical alteration with these bad guys, but by using firearms to protect herself and her family she’s on equal footing. Not a bad message there, and very few moviegoers are going to know about or care about the actors’ personal opinions on gun control.
Chris Pratt, Adam Baldwin, Katee Sackhoff, Jennifer Lawrence, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Bruce Willis.
Just a couple of pro-gun Hollywood types who it might be worth supporting.
Hypocrite…
Now if we could only get Hollywood to do a similar story set in present times instead of hiding the concept in the old west.
By the way, isn’t Lionsgate the outfit that did “Hunger Games”?
Hypocrisy for a dollar is nothing new for Hollywood. What is new how they seem to be blissfully unaware of their movies spraying their own urine back into their faces. They don’t even seem to care anymore. Which is a little scary.
That’s what I was thinking…Old West, guns OK, but these are different times now….
And it’s an old Hollywood big showdown spectacular, it looks like, not rooted enough in reality. But it does have the man vs. man (ok, woman vs. man) meme. meh.
Another movie where the writer and or director haven’t yet grasped 328 year old physics.
The guy getting blown through the door? Yeah…that absolutely kills me. I had an instructor, a retired senior chief no less, that a battleship would move 80 ft on a full port or starboard salvo. Rubbish.
In an arc, in heavy seas, full broadside all guns, maybe. About as likely as the hard port turn In “Battleship” when they dropped the anchor while steaming full ahead.
I don’t get it. Why did she get a gun when she could have just got a restraining order?
Restraining orders should be required to be delivered to the complaining party in the form of a T-shirt with the restraining order printed on the front and a bulls-eye target on the back.
She could have just put a few “No Guns” signs around her property. For extra safety, she could put “No raping and / or stealing” signs. Boom! Done.
I won’t support an industry that glorifies firearms and on the other cheek seeks to infringe that right for the citizens of this country.
Natalie Portman may be against gun ownership, but these types of movies do make women want to try shooting. Hollywood is hilariously hypocritical when it comes to guns and is probably one of the biggest influences towards spreading gun ownership to people who don’t grow up with them.
I won’t see it in the theater since I have a young child and that’s usually hard to schedule, but I’ll see it when it’s released for rental.
“Hollywood is hilariously hypocritical when it comes to guns and is probably one of the biggest influences towards spreading gun ownership to people who don’t grow up with them.”
Hollywood and the First-Person Shooter video games are the 2A’s best (inadvertent) friends.
(zero point zero sarcasm)
I remember a recent photograph on TTAG that showed a prominent actress carrying a Glock case. However, i have forgotten her name. If would be ironic if it was Portman.
Hillary Duff. And if I could get her behind rifle in the garand family I would have box office porn I mean gold 🙂

Robert culp and Rachel Welch in “Annie Calder” from the early 1970s l will bet is a better old west revenge type film.
I’m sorta partial to “The Quick and The Dead”
Natalie Portman as a strong women using guns to protect her family in the Old West?
Where in the Old West, you were three times safer than in modern times.
The real truth was that most people were actually behaving fairly civilized on the frontier as they did not have entitlement programs, actually had to work for a living, and raise their own kids. Liberal Villages do not raise children.
Many times when outlaw gangs rode into town, the armed Civil War veterans practiced proper gun control and blew the hell out of the perps.
The “wild west” is probably the safest point in American history violent crime wise. Then eastern sheriffs like the Earps realized there was money to be made by monopolizing violence and things went downhill for 100 years.
Probably worth downloading on torrent?
As an Israeli, Portman should understand the value of guns for self-defense. Alas, she’s a Democrat., so she’s helping to promote the people who will destroy the US and Israel. What a dimwit.
Actors aren’t hired for their brains.
Seasonally correct question here:
Does Natalie Port”monica” really celebrate Hanukkah?
Why doesn’t she just put up a Gun Free Zone sign around her property? Problem solved.
In Cold Mountain she portrayed a single mother who wasted a Yankee that threatened her baby. After the imminent threat was over, and the yank was disarmed, de-coated, and de-shoed. Righteous vengeance to be sure.
Given the opportunity, I would love the Natalie Portman, particularly in a corset and/or stockings, her and/or me.
“Now if we could only get Hollywood to do a similar story set in present times instead of hiding the concept in the old west.”
As long as the movie plays out as described, it embeds the notions in viewers’ minds, with several positive associations, from “Yay, good guys!”, to “Pretty.”
As far as nicknames go, “Hopalong Goldfarb” isn’t all THAT bad.
It could be worse:
