NRA Headquarters

The NRA has announced the appointment of John Commerford as the Interim Executive Director of the NRA Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA). The decision was made by NRA Executive Vice President & CEO Doug Hamlin, marking the second leadership transition for the organization’s advocacy arm in just over a year.

Randy Kozuch, who had served as the interim executive director of NRA-ILA since his appointment in April 2023, was quietly removed from that position in late November. There were no announcements of the move by NRA and in fact, an internal email that was leaked on Facebook, suggests keeping it quiet was the intent.

An internal email shared by Hamlin on Nov. 22 read:

To All:

The word has filtered out prematurely regarding the employment status of Randy Kozuch. Randy and I are communicating and will be doing so again on Monday. Randy is a valued and treasured member of the NRA family; our intent is to put him in a position that allows us to better leverage his incredible talent and strengths.

Doug Hamlin

EVP/CEO

National Rifle Association of America

And then last week, still with little to no explanation as to Kozuch’s intended placement in a new position and nothing publicly stated about his removal/separation from the role, NRA simply announced the appointment of Commerford. It isn’t uncommon for corporations not to announce a key staffers departure, particularly if they were removed, due to the myriad of human resources and employment laws that can land them in hot water if they say the wrong thing. However, with the news spotlight always on NRA, particularly in the past couple of years with the legal troubles and leadership changes in the organization, any changing of the guard in a key position such as ILA executive director is going to draw media attention.

John Commerford is in as the interim head of NRA-ILA, a high visibility role in the world of preserving 2A rights.

According to the NRA-ILA announcement, Commerford, who began his career with the NRA as an intern in 2007, has steadily advanced within the organization, earning a reputation as a tireless advocate for the Second Amendment. As Chief of Operations for NRA-ILA since 2019, he managed day-to-day activities and played a pivotal role in shaping political strategies for high-stakes electoral races. During the 2024 presidential election, Commerford spearheaded efforts to maximize the impact of NRA member contributions, ensuring every dollar was strategically utilized to advance the organization’s goals.

“John stands well-positioned to continue the legislative and political initiatives of NRA-ILA in support of the constitutional freedoms guaranteed by the Second Amendment,” said Hamlin in a statement. “This will be a year of investment across the NRA, and ILA will continue to be at the forefront of everything we do on behalf of law-abiding gun owners.”

As Interim Executive Director, Commerford is tasked with leading NRA-ILA’s legislative and political strategies, with a continued focus on advancing gun rights and protecting the constitutional freedoms of NRA members nationwide.

Josh Savani Takes Helm of NRA General Operations

In other NRA appointment news, the NRA has appointed Josh Savani as the Executive Director of NRA General Operations. Savani, who joined the organization in 2010 as a legal intern, has held various senior roles within the NRA’s Research & Information Division, where he spearheaded legislative policy and operational innovations.

“Josh plans to create more opportunities for NRA members and the public to shoot, compete, and hunt,” said Hamlin. “He looks forward to expanding the reach of General Operations’ diverse programs to grow support for the Second Amendment and NRA’s mission.”

  1. published salaries, bonuses and covered expenses with 3rd party audit every year for every employee before they ever see another dime from me

  2. I will wait to see if this guy makes real changes. But I’ve gotta be honest here, it’s not looking good.

First off, he was there all throughout “The La’Pierre Years” (TLPY), and I don’t recall hearing his name touted as one of those responsible for overthrowing WLP.

To me, that means he didn’t do anything for us. He sat quietly or maybe even did the opposite.

I’ll keep an open mind, but I need to see some real behavior changes. Like starting over the Christmas/New Year break. I mean REAL CHANGES. I want to hear liberal media wonks losing their sht over things this guy is doing.

NRA/ILA’s culture has been to do more to hurt Americans by conspiring with the US federal government to water down or outright remove our rights.

Thankfully, other organizations have taken up the charge, and it is they who will get my donations. But for NRA/ILA, the laziness and slothlike behavior needs to change.

And it seems to me he’s already getting off to a slow start. I mean, really; he’s been announced now, so when are we going to start seeing some stuff to scare the liberals like light scares cockroaches?

Come on, Josh. Celebration is over. There’s way too much work to do. Take off the sunglasses and get to it! We need to start hearing your engagement. No more capitulation!

    • “NRA/ILA’s culture has been to do more to hurt Americans“

Yep, self-aggrandizing behavior by the NRA leadership.

One can understand their behavior, they have watched the conservatives be scammed by grifters for years so of course they’re putting their hand out for their ‘fair share’.

At least they’re not selling golden tennis shoes, abridged Bibles, cheap perfume or vaporware trading cards.

      • It seems like whoever draws the shortest straw gets the position. Hopefully there won’t be any baggage for the without sin media to dig up. As a life member until NRA gets its act together no monetary contributions.

  3. Interim Executive Director, Commerford is tasked with leading NRA-ILA’s legislative and political strategies, with a continued focus on advancing gun rights and protecting the constitutional freedoms of NRA members.

Continued focus on ADVANCING gun rights.
Then he better be screaming for national reciprocity and a hearing protection law immediately or I call bullshit

  8. Ya know that ‘election fraud’ that Trump said was happening with main-in ballots for the 2020 election – the mail in ballot and election fraud the left wing media and Biden and Harris and scores of politicians and Miner49er said didn’t happen and never happens?

Guess what…. Texas Man Sentenced To Jail For Mail-In Ballot Scheme (You Know, The Thing That Never Happens). (note: other instances in the article as well).

    • So the elections corruption goes far deeper than anybody thought, even in 2020. And yet the media STILL isn’t paying the price for their own corruption.

But who is surprised by this? Not I.

      • “far deeper than anybody thought“

Yes, one guy in Texas attempting to falsify a few hundred ballots.

Out of a total of 158,000,000.

But he was caught, tried, convicted and sentenced.

There will always be both election and voter fraud, whether it’s in person at the polls or vote by mail. But the facts show in the presidential elections the fraud numbers are too insignificant to make any kind of measurable impact on the election.

The right is always saying they were assured there would be zero fraud through mail-in ballots, but that’s never been the claim.

You know it’s funny, in the lead up to this election the right claimed this election was rigged,?there’s no way it would be fair. But when Donald Trump won the MAGAs STFU on that bullshit line and now say the election was perfectly fair.

So, were they lying then, or are they lying now…

        • “But when Donald Trump won the MAGAs STFU on that bullshit line and now say the election was perfectly fair.”

That’s ’cause Trump did win perfectly fair – as a result of changes states made to close the holes exploited by democrats in 2020 and to pay more attention to catch cheats.

Miner49er, still trying to make excuses for Kamala loosing.

  9. Miner49er theres a reason I’m an X duly elected official.
We were told only count one out of fifteen Trump votes.
    The bastard still won.
