Anti-gun Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell wasted no time in attempting to create a myth early in his tenure when he told reporters Washington is “one of the few states” with a firearms preemption law, and he needs to come clean immediately, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

At his presser, Harrell—a longtime opponent of state preemption, which guarantees uniformity of firearms law from border to border—declared, “You will hear this year me lead efforts on trying to get relief from the exemption RCW 9.41.290. You’ll hear me talking about that. I don’t know how many lives have to be lost before we realize we’re one of the few states that has that kind of restriction allowing the state to govern the laws we need for our city of Seattle.”

“Bruce Harrell needs to reload his brain before shooting his mouth off,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “Forty-two states have preemption laws, and that is hardly ‘a few’ states, as Harrell would have the public believe. Washington was among the first to adopt this law in 1983, and its statute has been used as a model by other states when they adopted similar statutes because they all saw the common sense of gun law uniformity.

“Harrell and other anti-gunners would have us roll back the calendar to a time when a literal state of confusion existed in Washington,” he continued. “Before preemption was wisely adopted by the State Legislature, we had a checkerboard of often conflicting local gun regulations. State lawmakers properly took control of this mess and cleaned it up with a single set of regulations that apply equally from the Canada border to the Columbia River.

“This is why gun owners don’t trust low-caliber politicians,” Gottlieb observed. “They don’t shoot straight. Washington has led the nation in so many ways, and that certainly applies to gun law responsibility. Our state provided the road map for the majority of other states to bring not only uniformity but integrity to gun laws, and Harrell wants to bring back what amounts to chaos.

“Mayor Harrell tried to invent a myth, and we’re shocked that nobody in the local media challenged him on this,” Gottlieb said. “It is not difficult to find the truth about preemption and how widespread this reasonable, rational approach has become. The question reporters should now be asking is if the mayor was so wrong about preemption, what else is he wrong about?”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (www.ccrkba.org) is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. As a non-profit organization, the Citizens Committee is dedicated to preserving firearms freedoms through active lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grass-roots organization of gun rights activists in local communities throughout the United States

  1. Chaos is good. Then law abiding citizens will never know when they are violating guns laws and inadvertently become felons who cannot own guns. What’s not to love? It’s a gun banner’s wet dream!

“Then law abiding citizens will never know when they are violating guns laws and inadvertently become felons who cannot own guns.”

Sounds like an excellent argument for striking down ‘special city’ laws like Denver’s anti-gun laws…

  2. “we’re shocked that nobody in the local media challenged him on this,” Gottlieb said. Shocked? Shocked! Why are you shocked? Dem/communists lie. It’s what they do.

  3. The I – 5 corridor from the Canadian border to the Mexican border are the people that control 3 states with a Democrat super majority in office. What do you expect from the biggest bunch of socialists in the country. This is the biggest reason why the eastern parts of said states want to succeed to another state, No representation from the ruling class.

  4. A TTAG story on a lying leftardedcoast progtard?

Newsflash! This just in, water is wet.

    Details at 11……….

    • Remember those olden days when you had to stay up until 11 to get the meaty stories of the day?

Now it’s more likely some 20-something on a sidewalk will break the news to the world by livestreaming something as it unfolds in front of him. The times, they is a-changin’…

  5. “Harrell wants to bring back what amounts to chaos”

yes. exactly. it’s not a mistake.

“if the mayor was so wrong about preemption, what else is he wrong about?”

nothing. he’s doing what he’s told to do.

    • straiught out of Saul Alinsky. Divide into factions, set any factio (s) agasint any other faction(s), stir the pot until it boils over in general chaos and mayhem, then step up out of nowhere and announce “WE have the final solution. ONly just trust us and we’ll have this fixed in no time”.

Another of Saul’s points was to emply ridicule to destabilise your opponents. Some of the text of this piece sort of tickles at the edges of ridicule, but does not go for the jugular.
Justin Trudeau attampted to eply ridicule when he blathered about the “small minority” of “unaccptables” involved in the truck convoy. Reality is the eact opposite… just as with this Harrel critter. HE lies, but says WE do, then laughs at us.

And I thought the last Seattle Mayor was an insane piece of owrk, that, what’s her name. Jinny Durkan? Little Miss Summer of Love” herself? Some “love” oozed out of that occupied territry up there on Cap Hill.

  6. A lot of state/town level politicians seem to be under the impression their constituents cannot see outside of their municipality and operate as if there are no examples of similar or identical failed schemes by which to measure their own proposals.

    See “blood in the streets.”

      • We alraedy are seeing that. How many maor Dem cities have murder and violent crime rates increasing exponentially, often in spite of just the sorts of “gunlaws” this dirtbag is pushing. They are ALL dem run, most have Soros backed mahors and prosecuting attorneys. And corrypt/iept city cuncil critters.

There are parts of his “great city” into which I will not go at all, may nore where I will not go at night. some I will not even drive through. And I know Seattle pretty well, having been in and out of it for more than fifty years. It has radicaly changed, for far worse.
