Gun snapper Oleg Volk can make any gun look sexier than Marissa Miller de-slipping, slopping and slapping. Oleg’s photo of the Česká Zbrojovka Uhersky Brod M6 Survival rifle is no exception. Well it is, in a way. It’s one of the few firearms of which Oleg’s said an unkind word. Or two. “[The] .410 is hardly an effective shotgun round, while .22LR is efficient but the rifle comes with primitive sights and a rather odd trigger. Switching from rimfire to centerfire is somewhat awkward, so the defensive utility of this gun is limited. The trigger guard is too small for use with gloves. The entire gun is all-steel, so it is relatively heavy and would get cold in winter.” Other than that, it’s perfect! Wikipedia explains the strange military thinking (surprise!) behind this party piece. Suffice it to say, curse you Perry the Platypus!
Springfield also made a version with a .22 Hornet barrel over the .410 shotgun barrel.
But, the M6 should not be viewed as a “defensive” firearm. It is a survival gun, with a bare minimum of moving parts to maximize reliability.
There are actually some of these on GunBroker with a “buy it now” price of $2000. It would be great if SA or CZ reintroduced them at an actual value price point of around $200. For $200 i would buy one just for the novelty factor but for $2000 I can buy a really premium rifle, a damn nice scope, and a Glock 19.

Ditch the shotgun and get the .22 where everything fits in a floating, waterproof stock. Much better device. MSRP at $275.
Alternatively, folding Kel-Tec Sub-2000 9mm for about $350.
About twelve years ago these M6 combos were $300-ish, IIRC. I wish I’d picked one up, but I probably never would have used it. A Marlin Papoose or a Henry AR-7 would be more useful but less historically cool.
I think a 7.62X51 over a 12 gauge would have been a better choice.

M6 HAD MANY COMERCIAL VARIANTS INCLUDING A PISTOL 22 HORNET WITH A 45 LC-410GA BARREL.
There’s nothing wrong with the CZ made M6. A .22LR version I tried out put every shot into a coke can at 100m, monotonously.
I bought the CZ’s .22Hornet version, and it shoots into 2 MOA with all reloads I’ve tried. It even stabilizes 55 grain FMJ’s.
The .410 barrel on my particular example does its best work with the finer sizes of hard shot in a 2 1/2″ shell. My full choke really throws skeet patterns, which evaporate rapidly after 20 yards.
Do people hunt with this weapon, or put it on a shelf and demand sub M.O.A. groups? Put your computer down, take up your small game weapons, and hunt with them. If you can’t put meat on the table with a 2 M.O.A. weapon, you need to attend an Appleseed marksmanship training event, and improve your shooting.
