Sorry. The headline was too tempting. Here’s the 411 on the 211 from the local website postindependent.com: “An armed gunman got away with an undisclosed amount of cash after robbing the American National Bank in Rifle [CO] Friday morning. It’s believed to be the first bank robbery in the history of Rifle . . . the suspect entered the bank and displayed a semi-automatic handgun. Police say that the suspect fled on foot and was last seen running west, away from the bank . . . Police warned residents that law enforcement officers may be visible in area neighborhoods. Police advise residents to be cautious and report any suspicious persons or activity to police. Police also advised residents to take precautions and keep their children inside.” Really? Bank robbers are more dangerous than pedophiles? Three words: man up Rifle!

  1. The banks don’t want employee’s to resist, so their not allowed to be armed. Bank robbers know that since these are GUN FREE ZONES, that it will be easy pickings. I know of a local pawn shop where EVERY employee open carriers and no one has ever attempted to rob this place. There are always at least three workers with their guns clearly visible, and these guys wouldn’t hesitate to shoot any robber.

    • Which is why armed employee environments create some of the very calmest, most tranquil, most comfortable working atmospheres. We could call Dianne Feinstein and tell her, but she’d just suffer an aneurysm.

      • That would be worth the effort of the call, right there.
(Note: I am not advocating violence against Dianne Feinstein or any other anti-gunner/idiot. I am simply saying that should her shock and horror at such a proposal cause her to suffer an aneurysm I wouldn’t be upset. Wasn’t it Mark Twain who said something like “I have never killed a man, but I have read some obituaries with pleasure.” ?

  2. My buddy owns a gun store/pawnshop right next door to the bank. The first he knew what was going on was when the cruisers came to screeching halt out front several minutes after the robber fled.

  3. If he’d committed the robbery in a small community in Kern County, California, the headline would be “Man With Handgun Holds Up Woody.” Don’t worry, though. The cops are all over it.
