“A gun club director has been spared jail after he was caught flouting his weapons licence,” we learn via the good folks at manchestereveningnews.co.uk. And what, you ask, constitutes “flouting” firearms-wise in The Land of Hope and Glory?  “Police firearms licensing officers found Frank Wright, 67, was keeping ammunition in his bedroom when it should have been locked away in a box in his loft. They also found he had dangerous ‘hollow point’ ammunition – designed to expand on impact – which he wasn’t allowed to keep at all.” Note: his guns were legally secured. The ammunition was not. Spock, damage report. . .

To anyone else, none. The gun club director was not so lucky . . .

Wright, a founding director of Tameside Shooting Sports Association Ltd, was charged with failing to comply with a firearms certificate and two counts of possessing ammunition without authority.

He pleaded guilty to all three charges when he appeared before magistrates . . .

He was handed a 16-week suspended jail term, placed on a one-year supervision order and also ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work.

Something tells me his firearms licence (with a second ‘c’) and directorship are toast. But at least Mr. Wright will have some slave labor experience on his c.v. after his sentence is served.

Europe regards her like a stranger, and England hath given her warning to depart. O!
receive the fugitive, and prepare in time an asylum for mankind.” (Paine, Common Sense pg.

  1. They also found he had dangerous ‘hollow point’ ammunition – designed to expand on impact…

Gun control advocates are clueless. The expansion-on-impact of hollow-point ammunition results in a reduction of over-penetration, thereby making it less dangerous than ball rounds, because it is less likely to over-penetrate and hit an innocent bystander.

I note that the same sort of idiots run New Jersey, too.

    • I thought all ammunition was “dangerous”. Imagine that, “dangerous ammo”! Is that kind of like “hot” fire, “cold” ice, “wet” water?

I feel so sorry for the pitiful subjects of the British crown.

Don’t believe the statists when they say that they don’t want to take away your guns. Of course they do. Look at the UK. Look at Australia. Look at NYC.

    • I’m pretty sure you have the Hague convention to thank for that one. I personally never saw the logic in mandating a humane way to shoot someone.

    • Two ships passing in the night. Hollow-point ammo is less dangerous to people BEHIND the target, but it is certainly more dangerous to the person being shot.

        • There are tradeoffs everywhere but a larger hole in the vitals is generally better than a small hole that goes through more muscles/fat and out the other side.

      • With respect to the assailant who causes the need and the justification for use of deadly force in the first place: deadly force is deadly force.

I don’t see much difference in danger between hollow-point vs. ball ammo, and the difference in danger among the various handgun calibers. Which causes more of a disparity of “danger”: .22LR vs. .45ACP, or ball ammo vs. hollow point at any given caliber?

  2. …placed on a one-year supervision order and also ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work.

How he was spared jail time:

“Yes magistrate! I need supervison. Please displine my lax management of the evil ammunition with slave labor and supervision. God save the queen! Thank you and bless you magistrate.”

    • Thankfully, the UK will be adopting Sharia law soon. The only firearm offense recognized by Islam is firing at inanimate targets.

      • Thankfully, the UK will be adopting Sharia law soon. Brits will be able to join the ISIS Gun Club; shooting guns at Infidels only please!

        • reproductions and cheapies are banned, because they got all scared and soiled themselves during the ninja fad of the 90’s.

Traditionally forged swords and antiques are still perfectly legal, for now.

  3. Doesn’t those circumstances seem so foriegn,
oh wait, it is and let’s keep it that way by keeping King George stored in his little box at Windsor Castle.

    • From reading the story, apparently if you own a gun the coppers are allowed to perform home searches to ensure you are keeping your guns and ammo locked up. They found the ammo in his bedroom, not locked away in a safe. Looks like one can’t keep the British government out of your bedroom. Madness.

      • The article you linked does not state that at all.

        Unannounced Home Visits

19.11. Where it is judged necessary, based on specific intelligence in light of a particular threat, or risk of harm, the police may undertake an unannounced home visit to check the security of a certificate holder’s firearms and shotguns.

  4. The big question is – Did he have to wear a wig when he went to court?

Glad we will never have these assine laws here, hell I’d get a life sentance for all the “unsafe” crap I have. God Bless the founding fathers for sparing us from this BS country and their BS laws.

    • Ha! No kidding.
Every now and again, I have to take the dash apart because a round or piece of brass gets in the squirrel cage fan of the car heater.
How does that happen, I wonder….

  5. “We make men without chests and expect from them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst.”
C.S Lewis, the Abolition Of Man

  6. Not to mention that the jackbooted police thugs that broke into his home on a routine invasion of privacy to search his house for anything they could punish a gun owner for, as is the tyrannical custom.

  7. So, in England, if you keep your gun in a place you cannot get to it and use ammo that might kill the neighbor if you ever have to use it you are OK ? And I was thinking it might be fun to go to England on a trip. Cancel that now. Who needs to go over and socialize with a bunch of morons? Is there any country in Europe where the citizens are not loony on gun laws?

    • The laws there are enforced such that preventing someone from harming you is pretty much illegal. There was a story posted here about a british (i’m pretty sure) gentleman who was beaten so badly his face was one large bruise in the yellow stage and he basically said he deserved it for being white.

Let the island sink. With any luck the story of atlantis is a prophecy for poor, tattered, brittain, bereft of it’s former glory, if any land ruled by monarchs could ever be said to be glorious. I sometimes wonder if the ‘democratic’ side of their government isn’t inbred as well. May they all get paper cuts.

      • Contrary to popular belief, we are actually a republic; we keep the the aristos for decoration and insurance.

    • If you have to use it you’re doing something wrong.
You’re supposed to just give the criminal home invader whatever he wants, because British criminals are more civilized than American ones and won’t kill you or hurt you too badly. Probably.

  8. As a Brit who lived in Britain before and after the ridiculous gun laws, I can only feel embarassment for what the UK has become.

London has the largest number of CCTV cameras of any city in the world. Everywhere you go you are being filmed.
Political correctness has reached the point where you cannot say anything about anyone or anything.
There is no respect anymore for different views and opinions. If you disagree with the party line you are a fascist or a racist or a somethingist.
Violent crime has leapt over the last decades. Although gun related violence is minimal, violence in general has sky rocketed.
There are documented stories of people being prosecuted in cases of self defense (in one famous case, a man was prosecuted for beating another (the “victim”). The man in question confronted the victim who had leapt onto the man’s property to beat the man’s barking dog. When the man confronted the victim, the victim assaulted him. The man, a former soldier, beat the bejesus out of the victim, which got him prosecuted).
For a long time, Gurkhas who had served in her Majesty’s Army were refused citizenship (to the horror of most Britons, who advocated that these brave men deserved citizenship). (I don’t where this issue stands now).

Prior to the terrible Michael Ryan shooting of the 80’s, gun ownership was quite common. People had rifles, shotguns, pistols, and yet gun violence was very rare. The Michael Ryan case provoked the semi automatic weapons ban (Mr Ryan used an AK47 to kill some 17 people). Later, in Scotland, a man went on a shooting spree in a school with a couple of pistols, killing several children and teachers. Hence the ban on handguns. A couple of decades later, crime has not gone down, neither has violence. And when a criminal really wants to use a firearm, he has no problem getting one. The laws only disarmed law abiding citizens.

What HAS happened is that the country has become a Police State. Perhaps a benevolent Police state, where the Police are normally very well trained, polite and helpful so long as you agree with everything, but a Police State nonetheless.

But as a Brit, I ask you Americans who are lucky and privileged to live where you do, not to confuse government with the people. Britons are still proud and brave and honourable, we simply have crap government. Vote them out I here you say. Unfortunately, there are no options. The political elite of both Tories and Labour both favour gun control and statism. The few politicians who are outspoken and offer alternatives can’t get the time of day. If you consider that nearly 50% of the economy is in the hands of the state (a shocker I know, but true), you will also understand that a significant proportion people have a vested interest in the status quo. And before you say it, it doesn’t make those people any less proud, or brave or honourable as Britons, just, misled.
