“Marvel Create Your Own allows fans to create comics featuring the studio’s huge cast of characters, from Captain America to the Guardians of the Galaxy,” theguardian.co.uk reports. “The online platform allows fans to combine various backgrounds and character images with editable speech bubbles.” No capes! Wait. Yes capes! No guns . . .
The terms and conditions of the tool also stipulate what cannot be included in the comics. Death and guns are not allowed. Swearing is also banned, as is the time-honoured comic book device of substituting symbols for swear words.
“Suggestive or revealing images,” including “bare midriffs”, are not allowed, nor are double entendres and “noises related to bodily functions”.
“Prescription drugs or over-the-counter medication, vitamins and dietary supplements” are also forbidden, as is contraception. More abstractly, “sensationalism” is banned, for which a few examples are offered: killer bees, aliens, gossip and scandal.
No scantiluy-clad transgender superhero displaying rock hard abs high on Oxy making sexual puns as Ze shoots aliens who slept with Donald Trump? Where’s the fun in that?
According to The Guardian [of UK liberals’ progressive delusions, not the galaxy], the censorship stems from Marvel’s commercially-driven misogyny and homophobia.
In April, a Marvel executive blamed declining comic book sales on the increased presence of women and non-white characters, saying: “That’s what we saw in sales … Any character that was diverse, any character that was new, our female characters, anything that was not a core Marvel character, people were turning their nose up.”
Did you know Captain America used to carry a 1911? True story! Well fiction. Speaking of made up sh*t, here it is!
Or not.
Fifty percent of me wonders if app-hacking is a thing, and the other fifty percent just doesn’t give a wet slap…
That’s lame. Guess I’ll have to create my Punisher fan-comic the old fashioned way: with pencil and ink.
That was going to be my point as well. The Punisher was one of, if not my favorite Marvel comics. I guess he’ll fight evil with hugs and rubber dildos now….make his costume pink and glittery…that seems to be the “new” marvel badass. This is what happens when Disney owns everything. First they ruin Star Wars then this…and they own the Simpsons now, so bart will now come out of the closet next season. THANKS DISNEY!
Disney ruined Star Wars? Really? Are you sure that’s not George Lucas you’re thinking of? You prefer the prequels to Rogue One? Jar Jar Binks to the porgs? Anakin to Kylo Ren? You have fond memories of ewoks and wish we could get more tales from Endor, because the Caravan of Courage just didn’t scratch that itch?
That might be the craziest comment I’ve ever read on TTAG! 🙂
Edit: Disney owns FOX, which owns Aliens. So all those xenomorphs are now official Disney Princesses, right?
I prefer the prequels to the lame and hollow sequels. I even prefer Jar Jar over Ren, at least Jar Jar had a character which Ren is sorely missing, as is Rey and everyone else. Not to mention the total insult that is Capt Plasma, ugh.
As for ruining the Simpsons, Disney is 15 years too late to do that. Lookup Zombie Simpsons which is what most fans call the show anymore.
This.
Basement dwelling / back room artists like me are more than capable of taking a crash course in manga art and making comics. Copyright characters could run into problems, fair use or not.
Fun fact: Nick Fury was white, until the Marvel movies hit.
So true. And when the company that owns the technology goes belly up, all the digital content gets erased while pencil and paper remains where you left it. This is one reason (among many) why I like guns so much: there’s nothing digital about them. No updates, no throttling, no spying, and no leftist execs who can leverage their consumer base against the 2nd amendment.
As if their failed SJW comics experiment didn’t kill enough of their fanbase.
I used to think for all the bullshit ideas idiots have in the end the power of raw money would return even the more ardent lunatic back toward the path of sanity but I’m now accepting that some lunatics are just so far off the reservation they’s rather see their companies burn to a pile of ash than appear the slightest bit insensitive to whatever cause-head is in their face at that particular moment.
Well, the upside is, when the inevitable bankruptcy sale happens, someone who remembers what they used to be may buy it…
It’s the MO of the Left. Being collectively correct is everything.
When their ideologically straitened and creatively impoverished products begin to fail, they double down — you can always expect a hard turn to the left before the whole thing goes under. It’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
That hard turn to the left serves the vital purpose of establishing their virtue credentials with the rest of the collective, so they’ll be assured of a place in other leftist establishments when they finish running this one into the ground. They’ll leave with their heads held high, and their comrades will pat them on the back and reassure them that the proles were simply too dim to recognize enlightenment when they saw it.
This, for sure.
Along with that hard turn and doubling down, you will also see the blame thrust outward.
You don’t like that The Punisher is now an overweight minority woman who fights injustice with tumblr posts and witty hashtags? Well then you’re clearly a violent, racist, mysoginistic body shamer, because that kind of deplorable is the only kind of person who wouldn’t accept… nay, demand!.. this change with widespread retweeting and facebook likes.
What #martyrs they are, to suffer your slings and arrows, after all.
It also bans aliens, stories about social issues, any content that could potentially frighten small children, and noises related to bodily functions (i.e. farting) to name but a few restrictions. And these restrictions are for content uploaded to Marvel’s site. People are theorizing they could use the app to create comics and host them on other pages, avoiding all the restrictions.

GASP**No bodily function sounds. I think I’ll have my character hold his breath until he turns
bluewhite. Actually, it seems Marvel requires that he hold his breath, and Lord help me if I have him cough or sneeze.GotG without guns? Or aliens? How does that work?
Cable doesn’t give a F!

Yikes! When did Fred Wertham take over Marvel?
For those of you that don’t follow comics, Marvel just fired the editor in chief that enabled the rabid liberal fan-hating non-sense. While the new guy seems fairly normal as far as comic fans go (On Twitter his primary interests are food, comics and anime) and he quickly canceled some of Marvel’s worst offenders, the inertia of his predecessor and contracts mean things won’t normalize for (at least) half a year. The use of characters who were canceled in the ads for this is proof it’s the work of the old regime
Still weird they use The Punisher in advertising for something that bans guns and death.
About damn time!
Well…maybe I was wrong about what I said above; not about leftists in general, but about Marvel. Maybe they haven’t gone full progtard and somebody at the top still has some sense. We’ll see what happens.
Alonso (seemingly) finally got fired because retailers openly complained about how Marvel was faking their sales numbers at a public event Disney was watching. There were doing things like forcing retailers to buy things that won’t sale to get things that will, outright sending retailers unsolicited, free, copies of books that didn’t sell (in volume well exceeding “sample”) and just plain old abusing how sales to retailers don’t translate to sales from customers.
I haven’t bought a new comic book in 50years(I’m OLD). I find this report extremely odd as we’ve watched the Netflix Daredevil,Jessica Jones and Luke Cage series. Full of sex,hyper-graphic violence (lots of GUNS)and lots of nasty language. Oh well…
Superpowers are guns. They are the force of arms used to repel the evils of a fictional universe when words are not enough. Those without superpowers are at the mercy of a villain’s ‘might makes right’ ethos… Until a good guy with a superpower- gun -steps in to administer corrective action.
Remember this next time somebody tries to indoctrinate you with this no guns in comic books nonsense. The application of force, be they guns or superpowers, is the real issue.
never understood how guns were just “too violent for the chilluns!!!” yet it was fine to have some guy in a cape drop kick baddies into low orbit or melt faces with fireballs or what not.
“Death and guns are not allowed.”
What about just guns, or just death?
Anybody who speaks knowledgeably in terms of comics vs real life needs to move out of his mom’s basement and get a real life.
So, I’mna guessing ‘Jeb Stuart and the Haunted Tank’, ‘Johnny Cloud’ and ‘Sgt Rock’ are just right out? Only comics I ever read or really gave a hard dump about. The rest are ponces in bathing suits. Give me THOSE movies and I might actually go to a theater. Make it in “3d” and I stay away in droves. You have been warned.
