Modular designs, whether pistol, rifle, silencer, etc., often provide more value to the consumer. Purchase the base product, then adapt it for different uses with swappable components. At SHOT Show this year we covered the SwitchLug System from West Texas Ordnance, which allows a precision rifle barrel to be changed out quickly and easily for a different one.
Now, MasterPiece Arms is integrating it into one of their precision chassis rifles so the owner can switch calibers and barrel lengths as they please, sans gunsmith. MPA’s press release follows:
MasterPiece Arms Introduces the Multi-Barrel, Multi-Caliber Capable MPA 65BA-SL Bolt Action Rifle
The rifle incorporates the West Texas Ordnance Switch Lug System, which allows the shooter to change the barrel in five minutes, without affecting the accuracy.
Comer, Ga.- (July 2017) – MasterPiece Arms (MPA), manufacturers of the MPA BA Rifles, Chassis Systems, Defender Pistols and Carbines, Suppressors and MPAR Rifles, is pleased to introduce the MPA 65BA-SL Bolt Action Rifle. The rifle incorporates the West Texas Ordnance Switch Lug System, which allows the shooter to change the barrel in five minutes, without affecting the accuracy. The Switch Lug System gives the rifle the capability of using multiple calibers. The rifle comes chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor with a hand lapped Spencer barrel. The action is the new Curtis Custom Axiom and the shooter can choose either the MPA Chassis System or Competition Chassis. The rifle has been built for extreme accuracy and is guaranteed to shoot at least a 3/8″ MOA.
“We always have our finger on the pulse of the precision rifle community. We noticed that many PRS shooters have need for a secondary caliber or potentially a trainer rifle usually chambered in a less expensive or easier to get caliber. With the incorporation of the Switch Lug System there’s no need for a second rifle. Simply get a second barrel in your preferred caliber, and possibly a spare bolt and magazine and now your match gun can also be your training gun. In addition, the Switch Lug System also makes barrel replacement a very simple task, all you need is a Torx wrench to make the switch.” said Phil Cashin, president of MasterPiece Arms.

That MPA I reviewed last year is a phenomenal shooter. Still can’t get over it.
The first thing that I ever saw from them was the Uzi wanabe pistol. If you would have told me then that the same company would turn into a premier precision rifle manufacturer I would have told you that you were a fool. I guess the joke is on me.
Or you could get a Savage. Although that’s not really a field swap, you can do it at home in 15 minutes.
You know what I want? A bolt gun that can switched from right to left handed. It can still eject out of the right but I want to be able to move the bolt handle to the left side.
I tried replying a few hours ago, it claimed the one lousy link I added was spam.
Anyways, this company may have something for you –

That seemed to work.
A bunch of left-handed rifles for left-handed deviants of nature… 🙂
There’s something about that site that just ain’t right.
Is a 90 degree grip angle comfortable or ergonomic?
It just looks *strange*.
(That’s coming from somebody with a lifetime of experience in being very strange…)
off hand I think it feels very goofy. When prone it feels perfect.
I recently installed a new Masterpiece Arms chassis on my CZ 455 Varmint. I could not be happier, and they likely secured a future customer for one of their centerfire rifles. Not a cheap purchase, but the new chassis reduced my groups by 20%. This past weekend, I shot 20 5-round groups at 50 yards and averaged a 0.35″ group size with a best group of 0.18.” I was shooting Eley Tenex, but my average group sizes have only been slightly larger with Match (0.38″) and Edge (0.42″) with the best groups also right around 0.20″.
