I spent part of today working on the MasterPiece Arms Protector .380 review. Houston, we had a problem. The video above chronicles my second attempt to shoot the gun using PPU 94-grain FMJ .380 ammo. The first go was successful, both in terms of feeding and hitting the target. I’m not that concerned about the subsequent failure. MasterPiece Arms jefe Phil Cashin warned me that his deep concealment weapon requires a little tweaking (in terms of springs) to get it to function reliably for any given shooter (i.e. a limp-wristed sissy boy like me). In my own defense, ow! The MPA Protector is almost as painful for the shooter as it is for the .380’s recipient. Unless your bullet finds its mark. Look for the full review next week.
That thing is minuscule. A square trigger guard might cut down on the
limp wristingFTFs.It’s the Rolex Datejust. The weight of it is throwing the weapon off balance in recoil.
On another note; why is TTAG spending bits on this thing? What is the MPA Protector offering that other weapons (Seecamp, Rohrbaugh, an old J-Frame) do not?
That’s no Datejust. Plain old Air King. MPA provided this weapon for test. Our only cost: my time (ha!) and ammo.
But can it light a cigarette?

My p3at is very susceptible to limp wristing with my girlfriend, resulting in FTE’s. I don’t ever get any. I think pocket autos are very sensitive to a lot of different issues.
That just looks like an ill-tempered little piece. I’m guessing you don’t spend a lot of time at illicit poker games, so I don’t see the purpose.
If you were at such a poker game (or dice or what have you), you’ve got that watch when you run out of cash. Then I guess you could through that pistol in the pot.

I really don’t understand the purpose of such a gun. Why not a revolver? Then again, I have no problem concealing a full size pistol and I’m an open carry advocate besides.
At the wrong time FTF is equal to a dangerous situation for you. Pocket pistols are for me at least a secondary not primary. But, if it will be relied upon it needs to WORK all the time every time. In a panic, limp-wristed, weak handed, upside down what ever it can’t fail when you need it. I’ve seen you guys shoot various weapons before I’ld send this one back.
IVE PURCHASED A MATERPIECE ARMS ALL BLACK PROTECTOR .380. I GOT IT TODAY AND WENT TO THE WEST PALM SHOOTING RANGE. IN WEST PALM BEACH FLORIDA. I HAVE TO SAY RIGHT NOW I AM VERY DISSAPOINTED. THE GUN WAS VERY HARD ON THE HAND WHICH DIDNT REALLY BOTHER ME, I GUESS ONCE YOU GET USED TO IT, IT WONT BE THAT BAD. IT JAMBED TWICE ON ME WITHIN FIRING 10 SHOTS. THEN THE SHIELD NEAR THE TRIGGER WAS TRYING TO DISLOCATE. IT SEEMED THAT THE LOAD IS TO POWERFUL FOR THE GUN. LAST BUT NOT LEAST THE TRIGGER JAMBED CLOSED AND THE GUY THAT WORKED AT THE RANGE HAD TO TAKE IT APART TO RELEASE IT. IM VERY UPSET WITH THE PRODUCT. I FEEL I WASTED MY MONEY. IM GOING BACK TO WERE I BOUGHT IT AND SEE IF I CAN GET MY MONEY BACK. THATS WHY IT MUST COST ONLY 300.
I was unsure of the validity of your post in regards to your guns malfunction. However since you wrote it in all caps, I am now sure that your an expert. The load may be too much for the gun, were they +P loads? Two malfunctions in two rounds is not a huge failure rate for a new gun, considering how tight the tolerances have to be on a weapon with a slide travel so short. And with the trigger issue, all I have to say is read the manual. That also explains the bit about the +P ammo.
Just a pet peeve… Doors have jambs, guns have jams.
But no worries that continuous error and permanent caps lock in no way decrease your credibility on the subject…….
I have an MPA Protector and am very disappointed with it. It’s the most unreliable gun I ever owned. The first one would eject unspent rounds right out the top as it cycled. I could get off maybe 3 shots, find unspent rounds on the floor. Sent it to MPA. They sat on it for a couple months. I got a new one in the mail back from them and it seemed to work ok for the first 70 rounds or so. Now it is starting to do the same thing the old one did, I get an unspent round failing to feed, it wants to kick out of the chamber/mag and doesn’t chamber properly causing a jam. It does this now consistently. I wish MPA would give me my money back but I know better than to ask. I’d never rely on it for defense, no way. On the other hand my Ruger LCP is nearly flawless, couldn’t ask for a more reliable pocket gun.
