Matthew Platkin: I ‘Remain Committed’ to Disarming Every New Jersey Resident

Earlier today a Phillipsburg police officer was shot and injured while responding to the scene of a domestic violence incident. One civilian was also injured. While the shooter is deceased, it is not believed at this time to be the result of police use of force.

The Warren County Prosecutor’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident. Our thoughts are with both victims as they begin their physical and emotional recoveries.

Domestic violence incidents are more likely to escalate when firearms are present. Approximately 1,000 women are killed each year by domestic partners, and two-thirds of them involve guns. I remain committed to getting guns out of homes and off our streets.

  1. My sympathies to the friends and families killed thru illegal or careless firearms use. I personally remain committed to getting more guns into our homes and on our streets for legal use. “The RIGHT of THE PEOPLE to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED”.

  2. The obvious answer to domestic violence in New Jersey is to provide free firearms training to every woman over the age of 18 and change the law to allow all women (without felony convictions or other bar to firearm ownership) to carry at all times, in all places. I suspect that those two simple changes would empty women’s shelters and essentially end domestic abuse of women in weeks!

    • Why do you set an age limit for training? Any pubescent female is subject to rape and sexual abuse. Your daughter should be proficient with self defense weapons before she reaches puberty.

    • The heart of that solution is the only answer.

Disarming all households means women (or maybe men pretending to be women) can no longer defend themselves and protect their children from the real perpetrators.

The Democrat’s war on women (real women) is completely outside the realm of understanding and logic.

    • After he’s finished with the Bloomberg’s and the rest of the anti’s he might just find the time.

  3. The investigation is still in progress. This means that this statement is meaningless except to the extent that it publicly shows that this AG is perfectly willing to disregard the law. The danger here is not only manipulating public opinion but in tainting an investigation.

  4. “Domestic violence incidents are more likely to escalate when firearms are present. Approximately 1,000 women are killed each year by domestic partners, and two-thirds of them involve guns.”

Approximately 43,000 women victims ARE NOT killed each year by domestic partners because the victims used a gun to defend their selves or some other ordinary law abiding armed citizen defended them by DGU.

Approximately 363,000 women victims ARE NOT killed or harmed each year by violent attackers (not sexual assault purposes, e.g. rape, and not domestic abuse) because the victims used a gun to defend their selves or some other ordinary law abiding armed citizen defended them by DGU.

33% of the women violently attacked for the purposes of rape in 2022 were armed with a firearm and successfully stopped their attackers and avoided the rape and serious harm by use of DGU.

  5. … and it all started with FJB, the CEO of the Republik Inc. going off-script due to the Ritalin shortage.
Now it’s getting to be acceptable for politicians to speak the truth ! By the way, why don’t you go first as a test case, Matty. No security team and a gun free zone sign in your front yard.

  6. Platkin clearly states he would like to decrement the 2nd Amendment. OK…a free society thrives through the free exchange of ideas. But Platkin also states he is committed to violating the law of the land by removing, through force of law [implied], the rights of citizens to keep and bear arms in New Jersey. In one sentence he moves from the rightful exercise of the first amendment to using State statutes and regulation and lawfare [again, implied] to infringe upon a civil right with which he disagrees.

.40 does a good job (above) of de-bunking Platkin’s nonsense.

    • His stated program violates his oath of office – ” I will support the Constitution of the United States”. The little twit should he turn out.

  7. The article does not specify how many women out of the 1000 were killed by weapons other than firearms including fists and feet. The article also fails to note how many women kill men in their relationships, etc.

Apparently matthew platkin wants men and woman to be unarmed when a serial murderer, rapist, kidnapper is in town visiting, etc. Buy all accounts matthew platkin is nothing more than another worthless sick pos Gun Control nazi hypocrite who has armed security.

    • “Approximately 1,000 women are killed each year by domestic partners, and two-thirds of them involve guns.

      2/3 = 66%

66% of 1,000 = 660 women where guns were involved.

      So…

      1,000 – 660 = 340 killed by use of other methods non-gun

      • Thank you Einstein…Now if you can specify what weapons including fists and feet were used to murder 340 people that would really help.

        • For the 340 domestic partner violence killings – your question should be … What was the actual implement used to inflict death?

The reason is that no matter the actual ‘implement’ used to inflict death in all of the 340 the killers employed hand/fist/feet in carrying out the act to restrain/subdue/disable their victims. So aside from hand/fist/feet:

48% of the 340 killers used a knife/edged/pointed weapon (actual ‘implement’ used to inflict death).

23% of the 340 killers used some sort of strangulation/smothering method (actual ‘implement’ used to inflict death).

15% of the 340 killers used a ‘blunt’ object weapon (actual ‘implement’ used to inflict death).

    • The leftist goal is to disarm the law abiding citizens, they never tell you their plans to disarm the criminals while leaving the citizens defenseless. It’s just a fact the the leftist know women will suffer more, and their hatred of women is on full display, all while pretending to champion “women’s rights”.

  8. While you’re at it, how about giving us a list of the rest of the provisions of the Constitution which you remain committed to ignoring? Or can we assume you’re just going to be making up your own rules as you go along?

  9. “I remain committed to getting guns out of homes and off our streets.”

You cannot cajole, rationalize, persuade, or convince someone like that. Full stop.

Which leaves leaves the options of dealing with people as intractably obstinate as that depressingly…

    Limited. 🙁

    • And it’s only Monday A.M..

How bad is the rest of the week gonna get before Friday? 🙁

      • He’s pretending to “do something” about violence. Speaking of politics, the other day I checked google trends for the terms ‘gang violence’ and ‘gun violence.’ The term ‘gang violence’ was quickly dropped from use in early 2009. The term ‘gun violence’ began being used much more on, and after, November 2012. Obama’s first term and his reelection. They wanted to change the focus from criminals to gunz.

      • Well Geoff ILLANNOY has some particulars kick in today with their so-called “safety act”. Gangbangers & Dimscum© pay no attention to their unconstitutional “law”🙄🙁

    • Geoff PR,

You cannot cajole, rationalize, persuade, or convince someone like that. Full stop.

My father was “born and raised” in one of the largest cities in the United States–deep inside city limits in rough lower class neighborhoods. His experience taught him a very important pearl of wisdom which he shared with me many moons ago:

“There are nasty and violent people in the world and the only ‘language’ they understand is your obvious ability and commitment to inflict significant pain and/or death in response to their attacks.”

The implication of that pearl of wisdom is simple: you cannot talk your way out of a situation where someone intends to humiliate you, steal from you, beat you, rape you, and/or murder you.

Unfortunately, many members of our Ruling Class are intent on humiliating us, stealing from us, raping us, and/or murdering us–and we will NOT be able to talk our way out of it. Plan accordingly.

    • “Clearly the NJ AG has not heard of the 2nd Amendment.”

Oh, he has heard of the 2A.

He and his little buddies plan on going full fascist on it… 🙁

    • It would seem he hasn’t read Heller or Bruen either. New Jersey: where gun rights go to die. (I would posit that NJ is even worse than California, where we do not need a permit to buy a firearm other than the easily obtained Firearm Safety Certificate, while in Jersey, it can take months to get a permit slip from the local sheriff or PD. People have dies waiting.

  10. The only time we want unarmed victims is in horror/thriller movies. You couldn’t make those movies if every character had a gun and a phone, or if those items weren’t conveniently disabled.

    • Same here, Marsupial One. Nothing like the basics of a good rut…

      *Snicker*. 🙂

    • Possum, About a year after I married my wife a coworker asked how domestic life was treating me. I answered “Domesticated? Hell, I’m barely housebroken.”

  11. Man im worried about these jacka$$es who flout the law. AOC on tv Sunday talking about just ignoring a texas law about a b o r tion. When they do that it’s for democracy…if we tried it it’s fascism etc

    • They keep saying “democracy” as that is what they hope for, unfortunately for them America is a Constitutional Republic, not mob rule.

        • Dude – here is how democracy ‘works’ – if a vote is taken by 1000 voters that results in the immediate execution of the nays and 501 vote aye, democracy has been ‘served’.
Unfortunately way too many would be in favor of that system.

  12. As women become further marginalized by men in dresses expect their self-esteem to crash lower than it already is and expect DV incidents to rise.

They’re already more depressed than before and more prone to suicidal thoughts and drug use than before. I’m sure all those women’s history month spots highlighting dudes helped a bunch.

The worst part is they made this problem with their inherent need to please and seek out social approval. They may occasionally ask the help of men to stand beside them but rest assured any man who does will be tossed under the bus at the first negative social media comment.

Most of them will lower the drawbridge to invaders just so they’re thought of as not being mean.

So keep staying in those shitty relationships, ladies. God forbid you look out for yourselves once in a while. Somebody’s feelings might get hurt.

For all the lip service paid to liberation and strength over the past century the dividends just don’t seem to be there or maybe they’re just all spent on abortion? You’d rather be able to abort the kid you got from that abusive partner than leave the abusive partner which I’m sure won’t contribute to your already low sense of self worth. Priorities.

    • We’ll never have equality until women work in half of the construction jobs, and men work in half of the cushy office jobs. Then we need to work on making sure women don’t live any longer than men. I’m sure the feminists are working on it, right?

  13. How about we are committed to getting treasonous leftist POS’s like Matthew Platkin out of office, out of the state, and out of America.

  14. Four words. Zero tolerance gun prosecution. That would fix the problem. As it is they let violators out to commit again and show those on the edge the risk of prosecution is low.

    • Go in and remove all guns from the mafia, gangs, leftist and violent criminals…Go into antifa and blm rallies and take all of their weapons…Go into prisons and euthanize all violent criminals, murderers, rapist and people that hurt children…Let the world know we won’t tolerate them anymore…SEE HOW THAT WORKS FOR A CHANGE…INSTEAD OF ATTACKING THE LAW ABIDING..

      • 24and7, dream on. The only way to “removed all guns from mafia, gangs, leftists and violent criminals” is to prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law each time they are arrested.

    • Rand, just how do you intend to prosecute a gun? Last I heard, a gun is an inanimate object?

  15. I drove through New Jersey a couple of times. Get off the beaten path and you will understand why they call it The Garden State. It was beautiful. Too bad the politics suck.

    • I lived in the nice part, Medford Lakes (south Jersey).

Weird thing was, on early mornings, the smog from north Jersey-NYC would roll down, and the stench snapped you back to reality… 🙁

        • frank – you could visit one of the other Iowa class ships instead, depends on which one is closest to ya. Might be a good excuse for a trip to Hawaii ‘-)

  16. OK, fine. Let’s start with your security detail. In other words, you go first. I won’t hold my breath.

  17. you are planning on disarming every new jersey resident? so the police will have no guns. do you also plan on disarming security details for politicians? i guess if someone attacks you or breaks into your house you can call a social worker

  18. try bleating again, after you have done without taxpayer-provided, armed-protection for 5 years

  19. Well, we’ve been seeing Dementiacrats saying the quiet part out loud for the last several years. Destroy the economy. Disarm the populace/law abiding. Force the end of freedom of movement. Destroy the freedom of religion or rid us of all organized worship. And force a Marxist/socialist system with single party rule.
All I can suggest is purchase whatever arms and ammunition you can, stockpile foodstuffs and set up/locate alternate supply sources. Trust in God, but keep your powder dry.

  20. So you would disarm the 120 pound female so she could go one on one with her 240 pound abuser?

  21. This whole situation is getting too stoopid for wordz…. I almost welcome the relief of the fight.
At least you know where you stand once the enemy breaches the gates. All this BS talk from these elitist’s is really starting to get on my nerves.

You VOW/ are COMMITTED to taking away our GUNs, ENSLAVE US, Demolish all the Happiness in the world for your own enrichment…. Well folks, I SAY BRING IT!
My one question ‘Matty’ is are YOU going to lead from the front ? or are you going to be sitting behind your security detail(s) and high walls? Yeah, that’s what I thought.
We shall see who is still standing when the dust settle’s , We shall see who is swinging from the rope in the town squares, We shall see what those feller’s who protect you and are enlisted in the armed forces which side they decide to fall in with when you try to send them to confiscate/kill their own Brother’s and Sister’s… Pol’s and Dem’s TALK LARGE! and too much!
But I predict that @ a MILLION guns sold every month, for the last 40 months (and still counting! ) WE THE PEOPLE will NOT go quietly into the good night and just roll over and die.
I’ve heard a great quote from many sources (haven’t a clue of the originator)… But, “Once you understand Life is finite ! It WILL end! It is all a matter of how you wish to GO OUT! On your feet or on your knees”!
    I choose my FEET!
    I Like our odds.

  22. “Approximately 1,000 women are killed each year by domestic partners, and two-thirds of them involve guns.”
Why not fix the domestic partners problem first – maybe you can get 100%. 2/3 of the domestic partners used guns, what did the other 1/3 use? Common denominator are the domestic partners.
No such thing as gun murders. Only murder by murderers.

  23. He has announced his intent to deprive people of civil rights as Attorney General of New Jersey. Even though he is a graduate of a law school, he needs to be reminded of this:

“Deprivation Of Rights Under Color Of Law
    Summary:
    • Section 242 of Title 18 makes it a crime for a person acting under color of any law to willfully deprive a person of a right or privilege protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States.
For the purpose of Section 242, acts under “color of law” include acts not only done by federal, state, or local officials within their lawful authority, but also acts done beyond the bounds of that official’s lawful authority, if the acts are done while the official is purporting to or pretending to act in the performance of his/her official duties. Persons acting under color of law within the meaning of this statute include police officers, prisons guards and other law enforcement officials, as well as judges, care providers in public health facilities, and others who are acting as public officials. It is not necessary that the crime be motivated by animus toward the race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status or national origin of the victim.
The offense is punishable by a range of imprisonment up to a life term, or the death penalty, depending upon the circumstances of the crime, and the resulting injury, if any.
    TITLE 18, U.S.C., SECTION 242
Whoever, under color of any law, statute, ordinance, regulation, or custom, willfully subjects any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured or protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States, … shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; and if bodily injury results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include the use, attempted use, or threatened use of a dangerous weapon, explosives, or fire, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and if death results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill, shall be fined under this title, or imprisoned for any term of years or for life, or both, or may be sentenced to death.”

    • “He has announced his intent to deprive people of civil rights as Attorney General of New Jersey. ”

If “deprivation of rights” were a viable legal strategy/tactic, we would see thousands of such suits moving through the judicial system. Thinking there is a reason there is a dearth of such legal challenges. Lawyers don’t have a reputation for turning down cases that are deemed viable.

  24. Cops know the odds of encountering a deranged individual with weapons! That’s part of the untold truth of our society! Nor everybody that owns a firearm is going to use it in a criminal way!

  25. Apparently, this clown slept through his Constitutional law classes, probably his entire law school. Must have had a rich daddy to ‘pass’ the bar exam in NJ.
