“But even with some bi-partisan support, a common-sense public safety reform died in the U.S. Senate at the hands of those who are more interested in attempting to protect their own political careers – or some false sense of ideological purity – than protecting the lives of innocent Americans. The only silver lining is that we now know who refuses to stand with the 90 percent of Americans – and in 2014, our ever-expanding coalition of supporters will work to make sure that voters don’t forget.”

    • The last sentence of the third paragraph of Bloomberg’s quoted statement is the only non rhetorical information in his statement that should be of concern to ALL citizens and voters; “and in 2014, our ever-expanding coalition of supporters will work to make sure that voters don’t forget.”

      Translated; I will buy as many seats in both federal and state elections as I can to influence a favorable outcome for more gun control and impede Second Amendment Constitutional protections wherever possible.

      All American citizens should be concerned when someone like Lord Bloomberg and others of his ilk try to buy and control government to impose their self righteous will in that manner.

      It’s more than influence, its outright suppression of the will of the people by means of lies and blackmail, beginning with his bogus “90%” claim.

    • He has some nerve blaming special interest groups, especially after throwing millions of his own monopoly money at the issue to get the outcome that HE wanted, but didn’t get. If it had gone his way, then he would be praising all the special interest organization on his side, and how they’re doing it for the children and other BS. Why can’t this schmuck just go away?

    • He hates all special interest groups that don’t benefit him, or more accurately, he doesn’t wholly own. When it turns out it’s the will of the people the people become a special interest group. I guess every one of us would be angry if we spend untold millions of dollars, maybe even billions, and were utterly defeated.

      Keep calling and emailing your representatives, we need to keep our “special interest group”, known as “the people”, going strong.

  10. Where the fudge does this 90% number come from? Since when did buying a gun at a gun show become a major crimal enterprise to acquire weapons?

    • The assumption is that if you don’t want the government illegally keep records of your purchase and then illegally share these records with newspapers so they can print them as if it’s a list of sex offenders then you must be a criminal. I mean, why else would this bother anyone?

    • It’s from a very poorly worded survey question that asked “Do you favor a law requiring all gun purchases (including those made by gun dealers) to undergo background checks, or no background checks at all?”. Not only is it an “all or nothing” question, but it falsely implies that new guns currently do not go through background checks.

    So, if the threat is that they will rally their supporters to the polls in 2014, have at it! and Good luck!

  28. Thank you Senator Cruz for courageously and articulately defending my Second Amendment rights. The President demanded a vote, and got exactly what he asked for. The President and his coalition lied to the American people, and perpetuated that lie even in the face of overwhelming evidece that it was in fact a lie. The President and his coalition callously exploited the heartbreak and grief of a nation to promote an unconstitutional civil disarmament agenda.

    Bad law is always the result of emotion driven by uninformed public opinion. The national shame of interment of American citizens in 1942, accused of no crime, and solely based on ancestry, is the painful reminder of the tragic deprivation of civil rights driven solely by emotion and biased public opinion. Fred Korematsu’s story and heroism is a lesson to stand always vigilant against attacks on our Constitution and our rights by those who would claim the false validation of public opinion.
