chicagotribune.com: “Asked later about the extent of city pension fund investment in assault-weapons companies, Emanuel said, ‘You never know until you check.’ City Comptroller Amer Ahmad said the city pension funds do have investments in various investment pools that hold stock in companies that manufacture or sell assault weapons. ‘We do know that there are some holdings, and they may not add up to a lot of money, but every dollar matters,’ Ahmad said, adding that the mayor hopes to spark a movement of divesture similar to the campaign that helped end apartheid in South Africa. ‘We hope that other cities and states start picking this up, and we’re hearing that others may,’ Ahmad said. ‘This could become a good national movement.'” But not a great one? Oh and . . .
In his speech, Emanuel said, ‘We’re going to divest of any investment in any gun manufacturer,’ but he later clarified that he was talking about those who make or sell assault weapons.
Hey Trib, do us a favor. Ask Hizzoner to define “assault weapon.”
So with public pension systems in financial trouble Rahm wants to pull money out of one of the few guaranteed profit makers in the portfolio? Genius.
I don’t want my pension financed by killing children. You abhorrent pig! Can’t think of anything else to invest in you pitiful moron.
The demonization is just getting started. It’s what these guys do best. Divide and conquer.
Classic libtard tactic.
Rahm is a tool. As a former investment banker, he proves the peter principle. Hey, keep up the rhetoric. I own ruger and smith stock. #gettingpaid
Reminds me of these spree killer nuts. I always wonder why they couldn’t just off themselves and be done with it. Why do they have to spread the misery around?
So, Rahm, why do you have to spread the misery and suffering around to all the pensioners? Can’t you just blow your own finances and be done with it?
To divest, someone else has to buy the stock from you. It literally does not hurt the company when you sell their stock, especially when its a pension fund specifically selling for reason other than financial reasons.
Shhhh. Don’t tell them, they are sooo looking forward to feeling clean and pure.
Does anyone not make semi-auto center fire weapons with black plastic, pistol grips and detachable mags?
So Mayor Emanuel is going to refuse to provide financing to companies that manufacture the firearms his Chicago police (and our military) use? He considers that as taking the moral high ground? Or perhaps he hasn’t yet figured out that the same companies making these “evil assault weapons” are the ones providing his police with their Dudley Do-Right “patrol rifles”? It’d be amusing if it weren’t so pathetic.
It would be righteous if ALL the ‘evil’ companies refused to sell ANYTHING to the city any longer. If they only grew a pair and didn’t have stockholders to answer too!
I’m convinced that the military conducted secret drug and gas experiments in the 50s and 60s using a centralized populace like Chicago, and we’re now seeing the next gen’s effects. How else do you explain the level of staggering stupidity, evil, and insanity in that city?
I just see it as competition. One brain dead moron proposes an assinine ban & the next says “I can top that” & walla you have the latest best example of stupidity. It’s like lemmings seeing who can make the biggest splat, Randy
Did they seriously just compare gun-manufacturers to apartheid South Africa? No, wait, of course they did, silly me for asking if these people have argumentative abilities above the middle-school level. I’ve seen elementary-school stuff more dignified than this. Hell, I’ve seen YOUTUBE COMMENTS more rational than this.
Someone somewhere is going to make a LOT of money buying what Sturm Ruger stock the Shicago capo di tutti capi is selling. And, I can see someone making even more money buying the Freedom Group off Cerberus, if they really sell the company, that is. I am personally aware of a huge European ammunition manufacturer who has been quietly checking around for bargains, but it does appear as if there is more sound than there is substance in all of this talk of selling off gunmakers or stock in gunmaking businesses. Has anyone heard of ANY move from Cerberus after their pious initial act of Democrat-satisfying public penance post Newtown? If they were really keen on selling the Freedom group, they would have moved by now. That they’ve done precious little suggests that the public wailing and breast-beating at Cerberus was as much a stunt as Obama’s wiping a non-existent tear from the outer corner of one of his eyes.
