Republicans are trying to tack a health care reform amendment onto the FAA re-authorization bill. Democrats are retaliating by adding the high cap mag ban proposed by Carolyn McCarthy (10 years for 11 rounds or more). Click here for S223. “It’s political suicide,” National Association for Gun Rights Executive Director Dudley Brown told TTAG. “But after Tucson the Dems don’t seem to think so, along with some weak-kneed Republicans.” Brown reckons the amendments may cancel each other out, but warns our readers (and their 600 thousands members) to watch this space. Brown also points out that Harry Reid, the pol who [barely] failed to get the NRA’s endorsement during the last election cycle, is behind the push. Huh.
Try slip gun control in any way they can.
The real trickery is to claim they are going after extended, 30+ round mags which most shooters don’t use while, in reality, they would be knocking more than half of the pistols made in the lase decade. Very sneaky, but “gun-grabber” and ‘sneak” are almost cognate terms.,
Dang!!! If they put that amendment in there the FAA Re-authorization will never pass. As a professional pilot, I wish these darn politicians would just let the FAA get their re-authorization and get on with things rather than staple a bunch of crap to it and make it impossible for passage.
Holy crap, it’s an Instalanche. TTAG has arrived. Gonna have to throw a few more gerbils on the wheel to keep this thing up and running, boys.
So far, purely rumor.
Nobody can find any such text – see SnowflakesInHell.
My own search via Thomas and reading the Congressional Record entries for the various “text will be entered when it’s a real amendment” proto-amendments has revealed nothing at all about a magazine ban or other gun-control-related stuff.
I identified NAGR’s Brown as the source of this report, and he assured me up, down and sideways that this was fo shizzle.
All the gun owners need to get their family and friends to vote out all these crazy gun haters, and then the world (or at least the U.S.) would be a better place.
It also seems like Reid slipped something to the NRA.
Is the National Association for Gun Rights even a real organization? Last I heard of them they were bitching about the disclose act or some such. I have more faith in the NRA.
NAGR’s only purpose is to line Dudley Brown’s pockets.
I find it strange that an organization that was supposedly founded in 2001 has spent zero money to lobby Congress on the issue. http://www.opensecrets.org/lobby/indusclient.php?lname=Q13&year=2010
I also wonder how an organization that supposedly lobbies for our gun rights in our nation’s capital has no registered lobbyist as is required by law and how they lobby from Colorado. In many of Dudley’s emails he talks about being the “head lobbyist” for Rocky Mountain Gun Owners as well but he isn’t registered to lobby to Colorado legislature either.
Isn’t Reid the same senator that supported the second amendment when he was running for election last fall? Now he is running true to form again.
How is Reid running true to form? Where is the evidence that Reid is behind any gun control push on this bill? No anti gun amdts have been attached to the bill or even offered.
NAGR is about fundraising, not protecting the 2A. If they were, you’d think they would have some evidence of lobbying Congress. Since no one is registered to lobby for the group and they’ve spent no money doing so, it’s hard to argue they are doing anything to protect your rights in Congress or anywhere else.
Who is going to reimburse the owners who purchased these billions of magazines, every police department sells off their old weapons and anyone wo bought a pistol in the last 15 years probably half of them are over 10 rounds. The Govt. would go bankrupt. And as this is still a free country they have no right to seize our guns, it would be a fallacy to try. Anyone who got involved with this type of legislation would be committing political suicide. Most handguns that are full-size are in all but 2 states come with hi capacity magazines, this was tried before, when Clinton did it, and it changed nothing. It is just as fast to change out magazines as to not do so. Any experienced shooter can do it in under a second, so what difference would it possibly make. The whole idea behind hi cap mags is to cut down on carrying several, mags otherwise there really is no difference. Most shooters carry 2-3 magazines normally, that is what is recommended by any home defense or self-defense school or organization. If you do get into a situation where there are a gang of home invaders breaking into your home, the last thing you want to worry about is if you have enough bullets. Since statistically it takes 2-3 hits to stop the average attacker, what if you miss a few shots, and there are several attackers, Do you ask them to wait so you can go find another magazine?
The xd(m) magszine holds 19 lplus 1 in the chamber.
