On Sunday, Prince George’s County, Maryland Police Officer Jacai Colson was killed during an apparent suicide attack on a Landover police station by Michael Ford. Ford enlisted his two brothers, Elijah and Malik to film the shooting as he expected to die during the attack. While it was initially thought that Officer Colson was killed by Ford, Prince George’s County Police Chief Hank Stawinski announced today that Colson had in fact been shot by a fellow officer during the exchange of gunfire. Complicating the situation was the fact that Colson was undercover at the time and not in uniform . . .
As baltimore.cbslocal.com reports,
The chief wants to make one thing clear–he does not believe an officer was intentionally trying to kill another. He described it as a chaotic scene that has many searching for answers. …
“I do not for a second believe that this was a police officer intentionally firing at another police officer,” said Chief Hank Stawinski, Prince George’s County Police Department.
Let’s hope not. Fog of war and all that.
Though he may have expected to die, Michael Ford, the shooter, survived being shot by police and is still hospitalized.
All three brothers are being charged with attempted murder. The remaining two were denied bond at a court hearing Wednesday.
Malik passed out in court. His father talked about him, saying: “He didn’t pull the trigger. My son is a great person.” He added: “I’ve lost three kids in one shot.”
Can we ban the term”friendly fire”? With friends like this…
Associative fire? Blue on blue? Friend/foe misidentification?
Why? It’s an apt description. Friendlies (those on his side), either by misidentification, non-identification, mistake, or other unintentional means, fired on him.
Most departments (that I remember anyway) have a “daily color” to be worn as an article of clothing (varies) to prevent this sort of FF tragedy on UCs.
I like it. You mean like “on Monday, a red hat, on tuesday, a blue shirt”. With everybody on the street briefed each day. Minimum cost/effort, no complication.
More of Zero’s sons.
Please explain what that means.
Barack Hussain Obama said about Trayvon Martin that if he had a son he might look just like Martin. You know, the guy who just went to get some ice tea and skittles and ended up shot dead while trying to smash Zimmerman’s head into concrete.
The usual suspects are trying to turn this into another racist-cops-murdering-blacks thing, opining that the officer wouldn’t have been shot if he were white. When you consider that that the real perps are all black, and that the cop, as an undercover officer, was probably decked out to fit into the same ethnic/cultural milieu–well, the race-baiters may have a point, but not the one they think they have.
This was a suicidal act but is was not suicide. This was attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder. I would fry all three motherfuckers!
Edit: it was murder even though the cop was killed by another cop.
Most, if not all, states have a felony murder law. Basically, if somebody dies as a direct result of the commission of a felony, even if the person committing the felony doesn’t cause the death, everyone involved in the felony can face a murder charge, and potentially the death penalty.
If you rob a Circle-K and the clerk slips on nacho sauce and snaps his own neck, you get the chair.
Sometimes that law can seem a bit absurd… like when your friend and you go rob a store and he accidentally shoots himself, but you get charged with murder.
In a case like this, though, or when any third party gets killed, seems like the perfect time for that law.
I fail to see anything absurd about that. If you don’t like that outcome, it’s easily prevented by the genius tactic of “not committing felonies.”
>what is mens rea
>what is proportionate punishment
I love how the law-and-order gangsters blatantly abuse longstanding legal principles for their own emotional/sexual gratification then have the chutzpah to preach about following their corrupted law.
@Cloudbuster,
Hillary just made possessing a gun a felony. The next time someone gets murdered with a gun, you get charged as an accomplice…..
But seriously, everything is a felony now. The tyrants like it that way. More convenient. We live in a totalitarian society, after all.
“it was murder even though the cop was killed by another cop”
Heh, I love it how associative guilt does not apply to government agents.
Remember the incident in Georgia where a toddler was mutilated by a flashbang grenade? Not only did the DA attempt to charge the suspect in the raid with attempted murder (even though he was nowhere near the raid and surrendered peacefully the next day), none of the chain of command was charged with this crime even though the flashbang usage policy was contrary to manufacturer directions and therefore prone to accidents.
Very good point. It should be equal across the board.
Yeah let me know next time a PD chain-of-command is charged with malfeasance for maintaining blue gang omerta.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA it’s funny to even think about this.
It will be equal across the board when we make it known that the guilty parties will be held accountable at 3AM with Molotovs and .223’s sweeping the front porch of their house. Why would they make any effort to change the system that works so well in their favor? They never have, and never will until that day.
Unless the risks are too high to bear, they will continue to lie, cheat, rig evidence, ignore FOIA requests, and otherwise make a joke of the system we are trying to use to maintain private property rights. They are the new mafia.
Condolences to the family of the slain officer. To the Ford family, nice job raising your sons. Hopefully, they will be behind bars for life and unable to procreate.
“family”? Pretty sure that in NOT the noun you are searching for.
Perhaps – tribe? horde? troop?
Can we buy the MD popo more ammo?
Like those three will be a loss to society…..
$40-60K per year, per inmate in that neck of the woods. Yes, locking them up will cost society plenty.
Mulch comes to mind. They’d at least be usefull for something.
“So that was Mrs. Lundegaard on the floor in there. And I guess that was your accomplice in the wood chipper. And those three people in Brainerd. And for what? For a little bit of money. There’s more to life than a little money, you know. Don’tcha know that? And here ya are, and it’s a beautiful day. “
Fargo.
Ok then save 60k and let them go.
They need to be charged with murder of the undercover cop….they started this insanity and need to bear the full punishment.
My thoughts exactly. This was a premeditated attack and someone died because of it. How they are not getting murder 1 plus some kind of federal terrorism charge is beyond me.
Im sure the charges will be dropped…. Maybe these guys are just hold outs from that whole Baltimore thing that nobody talks about any more…… This was just a protest since they dont have any more space to destroy and vent their anger at society….. Because freddy grey and stuff.
“They need to be charged with murder”
Agreed with this part.
“of the undercover cop”
But not this as a separate charge. Murder is murder whether the victim is a cop or not.
“I do not for a second believe that this was a police officer intentionally firing at another police officer,”
Of course it wasn’t, he wasn’t in uniform. That’s a straw man deflection, an attempt to avoid the more obvious conclusion, that what we do have here is a cop instinctively assuming that ‘any black guy with a gun’ (and no uniform) is the bad guy. Now how much time, if any, the shooter had to assess the situation, we don’t know. Its entirely possible, and plausible the mistake was just that, an unfortunate mistake. But, I submit it is equally plausible that the shooting officer just made the statistically safe assumption and opened fire, and that a white officer might have stood a slightly better chance and not catching friendly fire in this particular situation. Either way, it sucks both ways – to go out like that, and to be the guy who pulled the trigger.
I do hope rational minds prevail and accept that ultimately the guy who initiated the confrontation bears the responsibility.
More than likely what actually happened was that a cop was taking fire and saw someone not in a uniform holding a gun. Since it’s MD, anyone not in blues with a gun is immediately a criminal and he took the shot.
Would this have happened in a gun friendly state? I am not going to open that can of worms, but I will say that cops in free states have to interact with armed citizens more often and would not immediately assume everyone with a gun is a threat.
That’s my conclusion as well. The point I am skirting is, that in this day an age, it is a shame that Chief Hank feels the need to head-off the knee-jerk racial hate-mongering by invoking the straw-man of an intentional police on police shooting, to head it off. That scenario is precisely the last scenario anyone reading about this incident would conclude, and yet he feels so threatened by the race-baiters that he makes himself go there.
Could be the bullet that killed the officer came from a mag dump that wasn’t even aimed at him. He just zigged when he should have zagged.
And the 2 dumbass brothers need to face murder charges at least, along with the dumbass that couldn’t even manage a suicide.
Its racist of YOU to assume that the cop who fired was white. The same way it was racist of the BLM crowd to assume that the cops involved in the Freddy Grey thing were white…… (*hint*… the cops were black)
Um, YOU are the only one making that assumption.
Death penalty for all three.
The cops had a chance to hand out the death penalty but arrested them instead
Probably a good plan after they had already executed a fellow cop.
The cops didn’t “execute” their fellow officer, dumbass.
You army much smarter than the 3 scum who set this in motion.
“Ford enlisted his two brothers, Elijah and Malik to film the shooting as he expected to die during the attack.”
That – apart from premeditated murder – sure sounds like something only a terrorist would do. Why else would you film this? It’s not like something you’d find at the traditional Thanksgiving dinner when your relatives inflict home movies on you.
So none of them felt that black lives matter?
Maybe they were thinking Black Lives Martyr.
It appears at least one of them was thinking just that. I’d love to know if the brothers tried to talk him out of it at any point.
What the hell kind of father is so clueless that he’s shocked to find all his sons involved in an attack on a police station?
I was thinking the same thing.
I believe the technical term is “donor.”
‘He added: “I’ve lost three kids in one shot.”’
I think you lost these kids a while ago, sadly. You just didn’t know it, yet.
Dear people contemplating ‘suicide by cop’,
Please do it yourself instead.
Signed,
Cops
Not much to go on here. Seems like Jacai Colson was possibly assuming other Officers knew who he was. Big mistake! Being dressed for undercover, Black and pulling a gun we have to assume during a chaotic event put him at risk where you would think his training should have taught him better. A tragic waste of his life. Only takes that one bad decision.
Condolences to his Family.
So Officer Colson was the one who made the “bad decision”? Not the guy who actually pulled the trigger without positively identifying his target and knowing who and what he was shooting at? M’kay…
Based on what actual facts we have that is my conjecture. When we know the story the Officer who shot Colson is telling, it might change, but I have to ask if Colson’s training or decision-making failed him based on what we know at this time. The only good that can come of this man’s tragic death is if we who read his story gain an insight to stress situations that may save one of our lives in another similar situation. YMMV and that’s A-okay with me.
Hmm. Because all the training I’ve had (quite a lot) teaches that you own every bullet that comes out of the muzzle of your gun, and the guy who pulls the trigger bears the ultimate responsibility. “Be sure of your target” and all that stuff. But, YMMV…
Yep.
Deja Vu…
Anyone else remember Officer Cornell Young Jr? Providence RI? Undercover cop, black, shot by uniformed white cop during a shoot out?
This is a damn shame.
“My son is a great person.” That attitude right there is 90% of the problem.
That attitude right there is just the natural response to the loss of a child. Human nature. You never blame yourself or family no matter how in the wrong they are. It’s just how we’re wired.
Another #DinDoNuffin squad strikes!
Yep…black lives splatter.
Oh thats, Bad, bad , bad , bad
Sounds like someone’s cutting a deal. Could this be a “cell?”
I immediately was sure he was shot by a fellow officer. CCW is all but unobtainable in MD. And Every CCW holder here knows they would be charged if they attempted to help in a situation like this. If they survived. Because of the CCW rules here in MD, it is automatically assumed anyone armed and not in uniform is a bad guy. And this is the result.
I can see that, but how was the undercover cop not aware? He should have got his head down and withdrawn, uniforms can handle this. Just like any MD CC should react.
Maryland sucks donkey balls.
After looking at the pictures of the brothers Ford, I decided that these are the types of fine gentlemen I would have go out with my grandaughter. Well dressed, nicely groomed, and from their posture and facial experssions, well mannerd too. Im sure that when I said,”home by ten,” they would have a car stolen by nine.No wonder the father was shocked
Snow White and the 12 inch dwarves?
Oh thats bad, bad bad bad. Made me laugh tho
I made a comment on another post about a white guy wearing dreads. I amend that now. Anybody wearing dreads, regardless of race drops a few points on my scale of assesment of character.
Looks like karma for the Prince George County cops who refuse to apologize and continue to engage in terrorist tactics in their fanatic persecution of the drug war
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berwyn_Heights,_Maryland_mayor%27s_residence_drug_raid
You like drugs so much, why don’t you post a video of your OD on shmootube?
>because only drug users dislike the unconstitutional war on drugs
I prefer the Dinkheller video.
Soon they will blame not the Ford brothers rather the easy availability of guns. The solution be more restrictions as far as they are concerned.
“We should just shoot anybody with a gun, not in uniform. Oh, …, wait, …
Murphy’s Laws of Combat:
1. Friendly fire isn’t.
Was it affirmed that the undercover guy drew his weapon ? If so, he should’ve known better. If not, well…
Yeah, it’s *his* fault. I don’t think so.
And yet when civilians are murdered because the pigs thought they might have seen a gun, it’s always the victims’ fault.
The only pig here is you, losertarian. Don’t you you have an open borders sodomy marriage womb scrape out rally to go to tonight?
Stay mad, bootlicker 🙂
that Ford family is like a mensa meeting, aren’t they. They’re like a regular “rocket surgeon” convention.
“Let’s go video our bro committing suicide by cop. What could go wrong for us?”
It is admirable that you subscribe their behavior to full on stupidity.
References to race above denote a predisposition to noticing race over a collective case of dumbassness. Their is no racial ownership of stupidity. You know who owns the phrase, “hold my beer, watch this.” 🙂
Not gonna speculate until the after-action comes out with details.
RIP to Officer Colson, and prayers for his family.
Another good man who gave his life to protect and serve others; End of Watch.
