So, I’m flipping through the channels tonight and I stopped at MSG+ to watch a World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) event for a few minutes. I’m not really a fan, but every once in a while, I stop and watch for a few minutes. As I’m watching, I notice one of the fighter’s shorts keeps getting blurred out anytime he faces the camera…so, I get to wondering, what the heck could he have on his shorts that would be so offensive that even an Extreme Cagefighting event would have to blur it out…so, I do some searching and low and behold, this is what I find . . .
Fighter Rob McCullough is sponsored by GunsAmerica.com…and that was just too much for MSG+ to show on TV in between the pictures of the bloody faces as the two fighters beat the crap out of each other…that’s apparently okay, but an advertising for GunsAmerica is just too far over the line.
It would just conjure up images of violence and brutality, MSG+ doesn’t need that.
Kids might get the wrong idea.
I thought WEC was defunct , bought by UFC , absorbed and Rob was retired . Oh well , I love cage fighting and every aspect of MMA . I like the fact that they ( UFC ) are aggressive in their stand on Steroid use . I have watched some incredible fights over the years , a lot of mediocre ones and some crappie ones but all in all I would say I’ve been entertained . It’s one of the only things I DVR .
I’ve seen lots of stuff blurred out on trunks of fighters on replayed fights and I think it is actually a contract thing rather than a desire to not cover up gun topics or language . When a fighters organization works up their contract with the UFC to display their logos and advertising they only pay for the time they are live fighting and not reruns of the fight . I think that is probably the explanation to this blurring .
The UFC banned gun related advertisements along with ones for ammunition, knives, swords all that stuff. I have a copy of UFC Undisputed 3 released before the ban of weapon related sponsors and a few of the playable fighters are sponsored by The Gunstore and Ammo to go, one of the fighters was sponsored by Browning, and lets not forget Hornady sponsored Brock Lesnar under the Fusion brand.
I’m sure you are probably right about the UFC and gun stuff , why wouldn’t you be , but I have also noticed that they blur out lots of other stuff , including the names of the gyms that the fighter has trained under . Lots of blurring going on . Now , who said , ” I don’t fight for the money , I fight for my family ” ?
Its not the guns. Its the advertisement and there sponorship doesn’t pay zuffa (ufc, wecs parent company) money to be shown on tv anymore.
Thanks , but I think I just said that , but I do appreciate the confirmation and back up .
Guns America should sue this network. They paid for this advertising and are not getting it, period.
They got what they paid for when the fighters fought , not when the network shows a rerun .
……………..I guess .
Time for blogsphere to pick up the phone and promulgate.
Best advertising Guns America could have. Unblurred ad would have been looked over by most, blurred ad means people have to actually look it up, and more curiosity about the censorship. You want what you can’t have – it’s human nature.

Yep. If I were Gunsamerica.com, I’d be laughing all the way to the bank. These clowns just tripled the results of that ad buy on the fighter’s shorts.
Yep. They got a page view from me at any rate.
Who takes the time to look at the guys package when they’re fighting. Do you carry a pink and white revolver?
Time for another Reagan. Nobody listened to the liberals’ whining in the ’80s.
Like the saying goes…
“It takes a Carter to get a Reagan”
As much as I’d hate to see Trump in office… I’d pay good money to be at the Inauguration after he takes his oath and tells Obama “YOU’RE FIRED!!” LOL, sorry I digress…
If I thought Trump was a conservative I’d be down with that.
Equally important: when did Steve Stiffler start cage-fighting?
LOL – uncanny resemblance
I thought MSG+ was some kind of supercharged flavor enhancer for bad Chinese food.
That was my first thought. My second was “is there a +MSG+?”.
It’s not recognized by SAAMI but STB410 did convert his G20 to test a few. Turns out it gives ballistic gel serious digestive tract issues.
It was for the children, look at this baby!
Who won the fight??
McCullough lost to Donald Cerrone
Yup, the Cowboy beat the Razor. It was back in 2008.
I wonder if MSG would block a logo sponsored by Planned Parenthood? Probably not since PP posses no threat to human life. (Dark sarcasm).
Hey those videos are fraudulent, I know because the White House told me so, and they should know because they heard it first hand from Planed Parenthood, so there!
Way behind the curve guys. If it was a WEC event it is an old fight being replayed. The WEC was absorbed into the UFC several years ago. Also in 2012 I think the UFC banned all firearms related advertising for its fighters when they signed the fox broadcasting deal. At the time I thought it was a huge slap in the face to the people who supported the sport from back in the day when it wasn’t main stream.
Actually, we reported it back then, too. Just sayin’ . . .
I figured. Just not new is all. It is pretty amusing that a bloody combat sport decided being associated with guns was bad for its image. I remember the excuses they made at the time were definitely lame.
There are a lot of potg who like mma and a lot of mma who are potg.
First UFC champion . ” I don’t o I for the money , I do for my family ”
It isn’t blurred for the content , it’s blurred for the money .
” I don’t do it for the money , I do it for my family .”
If it saved one kid’s or mother’s life it was worth it.
