Fox News and and NewsBusters caught the “Today” program editing the 911 call from George Zimmerman to emergency dispatchers. Here’s the transcript:

Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. Or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about.
Dispatcher: OK, and this guy — is he black, white or Hispanic?
Zimmerman: He looks black.

Here’s NBC’s edited version:

Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black.

  1. Amazing how little I’m surprised by every development in this farce of a case. But, like any piece of truth that manages to get through, no one will care.

  2. Wasn’t it NBC that showed a video a couple of years ago of an AR-15 type weapon totin’ Tea Partier from the shoulders down, their point being that the Tea Party was composed of a bunch of gun totin’ racists. Then FOX News showed the unedited video that showed that it was a black man Tea Party member carrying the AR-15? I am so sick and tired of the slime-stream media and their hate based agenda!

  3. *sigh* I’ve noticed today that msnbc talking heads are now pushing for the “justice system to run it’s course”…yea..imagine that…of course that excludes Sharpton who will keep pushing this utnil he gets every last bit of contraversy out of it.

  4. What a shock that the media would fan the flames of a story, ensuring many more hours of easy and cheap coverage?

  5. I just watched a show last night about this case. I know we dont know all the facts about what happened, but they were showing pictures of Zimmerman that werent so demonizing as the mug shot they always seem to show. Seems that every body needs him to be guilty, to set an example, to forward their agendas. Oh yeah they also interviewed Zimmermans black friend who said that he didnt believe he was racist at all.

  6. I recall learning as a high school Sophomore about how news reports are subject to the process of “selection and slanting” to impart the impression the publishers wish to promulgate. I have forgotten my Trigonometry, and a host of other things from high school which I have little occasion to use, but that trickery of the puppeteers of “public opinion” remains a danger to be dealt with on a daily basis.

    • Good post. I was a sophomore in high schrool back in 1967 and it was the same crap back then.

  7. Fox does this kind of thing just as much, if not more. The meaningful response is not to merely point out nbc’s alleged manipulation, because the way that right wing “watchdog” site did it, they asserted that zimmerman was NOT racist, which cannot be established. The only meaningful response is to publish the entire 911 transcripts. Bottomline: if it comes from an internet source, it’s half-true at best, exceptions notwithstanding. And the meaningful viewer analysis? Be skeptical of ANY site or source which is trying to convince you of their POV. And anyone who gets sucked into this sideshow of “is he racist or not racist?” is letting themselves be led astray from the core issues of this incident, which will, by the way, fall off the radar in a few weeks.

    • The right-wing watchdog site is not claiming he is racist or not. They are claiming that NBC is trying to portray him as racist by editing the 911 tape. Give me any other reason why NBC would edit the tape in such a way other than to make him look racist. If he was racist, NBC would be able to get their hands on true evidence and not have to create it. I would like to meet the id10t who edited the tape thinking no one would notice.

If this was only an alleged manipulation, NBC would not be launching their own investigation – which will mean nothing but a raise for the editor.

    • ive said it before and ill say it again, everyone calls him a kid, he had a tattoo! had he killed someone he could be tried as an ADULT. We know nothing about him! He played football, he couldve been very athletic, have you ever had a fistfight in highschool? we fought dirty!

      • Still, you don’t just shoot someone who is sitting on you holding you down and banging your head on the concrete, especially when he’s just a child….

        • Actually in FL it doesn’t matter if you are a kid or not. And yes, if he is smacking your head into the concrete and you can’t get away at that point you have a forcible felony (aggravated battery) at that point.

As for the kid part, 17 these days is not really a kid physically despite the lack of mental development. An athletic 17 year old determined to hurt you will probably be a lot more successful than someone in their 30s.

          • Agree. Jeez, I thought the sarcasm would just scream out at readers. I was wrong. Of COURSE if someone is banging your head on the concrete and holding you down you shoot. I find the constant refrain of the phrase “a child” in this case just bizarre.

  8. Is there a link to the NBC news cast where this edited version of the 9-1-1 call appeared ? I have been searching the web for it, but have been unable to find the link, only articles about the edited version. If you could provide a link to the actual NBC newscast, containing the edited 9-1-1 phone call, I would very much appreciate it . Thanks.

  9. NBC is notorious for rigging stories. Here’s the background on the big fraud perpetrated by NBC in the 90’s about GMC pickup gasoline tanks:

One should keep this in mind when listening to talk of “audio experts” being trotted out by the media now, telling people who is who on the 911 call tapes.

    • Pardon my affection for analogies, but it’s almost like they’re trying to get something else to explode. Maybe a race riot? Even if it takes a little help from their news producers. Same modus operandi, sabotage and subvert. The vocabulary fails for something this low.

  10. I don’t agree with it, but I understand the idea of slanting or selective inclusion to appease to their reader/viewer base, but this is way off track. They rearranged words from a recording. Isn’t there a law against that?
I can understand playing selective clips but if you rearrange audio to sound like one sentence i.e. the listener does not know it was separate quotes it makes it look totally different.

  11. I have been saying all along the mob and the media have been slamming Zimmerman to look as bad as possible. The media is pouring gas on the racist and gun control angle as much as possible.

  12. I’ve tried very hard to imagine, but looking at your post-leading photo, I just can’t imagine a son of our current chief executive would look much like TM. Nope. Nothing but the color, and that not quite. Is it just me?

  13. No surprise here a “drive by media” origination changing the facts about a legal gun owner, and doing their best to put race into a situation where it seems none existed. Do the “major” news media organizations want a war in this country? At least then they would have something real to spin and report on?

  14. File this under no big surprise. It’s NBC after all, the network that brought you MSNBC that bastion of fairness.

  15. NBC edited the 911 call to “advance the narrative”, and imply that Zimmerman is racist? And anyone is surprised by this kind of blatant media lying?

Anyone wonder why the public ranks the news media below used car salesmen and lawyers in trustworthiness? (My apologies to used car salesmen.)
