Thomas Lee Moore of Statesville called Statesville police on Tuesday to report two men forced him in his house on Wilmington Avenue at gunpoint and took his wallet. Statesville Police Chief Tom Anderson said Moore indicated that one of the two men, as they were leaving, turned and fired toward his house. Moore said he retrieved his own weapon and fired back at the suspects, Anderson said. Police checked and discovered the handgun Moore used was reported stolen in Hickory and he was a convicted felon, meaning he cannot possess a gun by law. As a result, Moore was charged with possession of stolen property and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
