Asymmetric Technologies has unveiled its Advanced Shoulder Pocket (ASP) system. It’s an “individual rifleman weapon stabilization system that assists a shooter to maintain a stable, repeatable and precise firing position with minimal effort.” In other words, you pop the ASP butt pad onto the end of your AR-15 and attach a shoulder strap thingie to your tactical LBE (load-bearing equipment) vest. The magnet in the buttstock links up with the magnet in the strap and BA-BAM! You’re locked and loaded . . .

The presence of the ASP substantially reduces the time it takes to steady the rifle’s butt stock from a carrying position to a firing position, resulting in repeatable and precise firing positions time and time again. The ASP system also significantly reduces the felt weight of the shooter’s weapon, resulting in a more stable, lighter, and more agile weapons system.

If, by some chance, you don’t have a tactical LBE vest, you’re SOL. Just sayin’. Price unknown, availability not specified. [h/t thefirearmblog.com]

  1. Sounds like a bad idea to me, having a big magnet on your gun and another one on your shoulder to attract all sorts of crap that has to be removed. Things like steel cases from fired ammo, and all sorts of trash should you have to crawl around on the ground. Nope, no thanks on this one.

  2. An answer to a question most AR owners would never ask.

I don’t think I’ve got a run of the mill plain jane M4 stock on ANY of my ARs. Oh Well….

At least they got Tom Hanks to do their promo.

    • Tom Hanks acts the role of a military man.

The decorated man in the video, lived that role. That carries a hell of allot more credibility than an anonymous mouthpiece on the interwebs.

  3. Is this real? I understand it from a conceptual standpoint but it sounds like a massive PITA if that shoulder magnet moves around or isn’t installed in the same place every time. Also does not take into account different shooting positions (standing vs. prone) that require different placement of the gun on your shoulder, or a gun with multiple optics on it that requires different shoulder placement depending on whether you’re looking through the primary scope or the red dot that could be on top of the scope (meaning the rifle needs to be lower) or mounted off at 45* on the side, etc etc…

  4. So Rep Carolyn Maloney cannot be mocked anymore about the “shoulder thing that goes up”? Damn

  5. Not to be used if you are aboard a ship, tank, APC, in or around nuclear reactors.
Or if you have iron poor blood…

    • Or perhaps a pacemaker? Then again, if you have heart problems to begin with, then maybe you shouldn’t be operating as an operator in operations, anyway, and risky rig accessories may not be the greatest danger?

  6. Solution in need of a problem.

(Except for those whose problem is extracting money, for which this is a solution)

    /thread

    • The developers of this concept are not looking to make money. They’re looking for efficiency, and methods to keep people alive.

I know this to be factual.

      /trolls don’t end threads

  7. I have to admit, I read the overview and fully expected this to be one of those parodies like the “Art of the Magflip” or that other one where they “tricked out” a High Point….

Then I watched the video, and… oh wait… they are serious? You have to be joking surely? This is why the AR buying frenzy was so bad for the industry, now every dick and tom who decided they would build AR’s and AR accessories is struggling to keep sales and thus trying to stay relevant and producing idiotic bullshit like evidenced above. What a positively stupid accessory. Someone up top said it perfectly, this is just asking to get all sorts of metal shit and trash stuck to it, and you have to use this goofy plastic friction fit buttpad on top of your M4 stock, which lets be honest is already awkward and crappy. What a waste of time, a very stupid solution looking to solve an even more monumentally stupid problem that doesn’t even exist.

  8. Well kiss my asp! If I buy one of these dookickeys and a load bearing vest, I can look like a tactical nindjit!

  9. Issues
    1) force you to havethe buttstock in the same place each time, so if you need to lean the gun a little around something, it will keep shifting toward the magnet
    2) erases magnetic media near it?
    3) when you say it facilitates mag changes, don’t fumble the mag change and bolt release at the same time.. it’s a video, re-shoot it maybe?
    4) moe weight? really?

  10. I was looking for the collapsiblie buffer to eject and the dude to beat someone with it.

Ok, what’s it good for? Hmm, magnets, well, you won’t get arthritis or if you do it won’t hurt shooting all weekend.

Great place to put your deployed knife while opening MRE’s.
The metal clip on the handsets will let you call in fire and shoot at the same time.
Rapid deployment device for cuffs or grenades.
If riding in a vehicle a getting “clotheslined” won’t happen, all you have to to is release yourself from the magnets and catch up with your ride.

    OR

You’ll be picked to low crawl thru every mine field every time.
You’re banned from any data processing office, motor pool, or supply shack.
You will always get the top rack – or sleep hanging from it.
Rappelling from a chopper will be impossible, but extractions will be a piece of cake.
You will actually be a “bomb magnet.”

Wow. That was fun. Thank ya.

    • “You’ll be picked to low crawl thru every mine field every time.”

If you’re the private you are given a grapnel hook to “You’ll be picked to low crawl thru every mine field every time.” But lets pretend the magnet is the biggest danger. Ever been in a minefield? I have.

“You’re banned from any data processing office, motor pool, or supply shack.” Pog problems. You probably wouldn’t understand the concept anyway.

“You will always get the top rack – or sleep hanging from it.” You deserve to hang from the rack if you can’t figure this out.

“Rappelling from a chopper will be impossible, but extractions will be a piece of cake.” Turn off your cell phones, or the plane will crash.

“You will actually be a “bomb magnet.” You’re a bomb magnet after stepping 1ft out of the wire.

Yes. This was fun. You’re welcome.

  11. You know what else ensures you seat your stock at the same position every time…practice.

    Product tagline:
Magnets, because there’s no such thing as muscle memory.

  12. I could do that. Or I could use a wolf hook, get the same result, except more reliable because it doesn’t rely on friggin magnets. The one advantage I could see with this is if you had one on each shoulder and you were transitioning around corners.

  13. I suppose we have reached a bit of a plateau in terms of firearms engineering if this is what they’re coming up with as an ‘advance’ now.

  14. How many of the guys commenting here wear IOTVs? How many of you bashing this have had to stand for 4-8 hours on an outer cordon or checkpoint trying to keep a ready weapons posture? It’s cool to talk like a door kicking operator but 99% of the Military does not get to do that. It is a pain in the ass to get a stockweld in an IOTV. I wish I would have had something like this on my deployments.

    • I can see your point there, but how much you wanna bet more cosplay operators will buy this than actual active duty service memebers.
