Bad Boy Buggies' Ambush iS

This is not your father’s golf cart. “With the flexibility to switch between independent gas and electric powertrains, the utility of Regen Mode™ to recharge the vehicle’s batteries on the fly, and the ability to engage both powertrains at once for 4WD power, the Ambush iS provides the range and off-road performance you need — and silence when you need it most,” Bad Boy Buggies presser proclaims. [Full press release after the jump.] Which is, of course, when you want to sneak up on something you’re fixin’ to shoot without having to, you know, walk. “We’ve worked hard to develop a vehicle that requires no compromise between the silent operation needed to stalk the day’s trophy kill, and the power, range and performance necessary to navigate the toughest conditions and longest days in the field,” Eric Bondy boasts. Stalk? What happened to ambush? Eric the Triple B VP also fails to tell consumers how their butt will feel after one of those tough slogs on those longest days. And how you strap a trophy buck on the hood. Camo fuzzy dice optional . . .

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Bad Boy Buggies® Ambush® iS Eliminates Compromise in Hunting UTVs

New Generation of 4×4 Hybrid Offers Upgraded Powertrains and Ability to Recharge Batteries in the Field

AUGUSTA, GA — Hunters no longer have to choose between range, power and silence in a utility vehicle, with the introduction of the new 2014 Ambush® iS 4×4 hybrid from Bad Boy Buggies®. With the flexibility to switch between independent gas and electric powertrains, the utility of Regen Mode™ to recharge the vehicle’s batteries on the fly, and the ability to engage both powertrains at once for 4WD power, the Ambush iS provides the range and off-road performance you need — and silence when you need it most.

Like all Bad Boy Buggies vehicles, the Ambush iS is manufactured by E-Z-GO, a division of Textron Inc.

The Ambush iS has three distinct operating modes: rear-wheel-drive 2WD gas, front-wheel-drive 2WD electric, and 4WD with both gas and electric powertrains engaged. Operators can shift between the three modes using simple controls within easy reach on the vehicle’s dashboard. A proprietary onboard computer coordinates the operation of the Ambush’s dual powertrains, ensuring that the gas and electric systems work together for maximum power and efficiency.

The Ambush iS offers a 28-horsepower, 720cc fuel-injected Subaru® engine, offering 75 percent more horsepower than the previous Ambush model. To maximize performance when the Ambush iS operates in electric mode, the vehicle’s 48-volt electric drivetrain has been upgraded with AC Drive technology, offering longer range and greater, more sustained performance between charges than traditional DC-powered drivetrains.

With the Ambush iS’ new, exclusive Regen Mode™, hunters can ensure that they have silent electric power when they need it, by recharging the vehicle’s batteries on the fly while the Ambush iS operates under gas power. In Regen Mode, the Ambush iS’ AC electric motor becomes a generator, transferring energy generated by the revolution of the vehicle’s front axle back into the vehicle’s batteries. With Regen Mode set to high, the amount of energy sent back into the batteries can even exceed that of recharging the vehicle using a traditional battery charger.

“The Ambush has changed how people think about hunting UTVs, and the enhanced power, range and flexibility of our new Ambush iS model once again proves that this Bad Boy is the ultimate hunting machine,” said Eric Bondy, Vice President, Consumer for Bad Boy Buggies. “We’ve worked hard to develop a vehicle that requires no compromise between the silent operation needed to stalk the day’s trophy kill, and the power, range and performance necessary to navigate the toughest conditions and longest days in the field.”

The Ambush iS offers four-wheel independent suspension and a sway bar to keep the ride smooth, and the vehicle under your control. When additional traction is needed, locking front and rear differentials direct the vehicle’s power to the wheels that need it most, powering the vehicle through the toughest terrain. The Ambush iS also features four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes and rack-and-pinion steering for optimal control and stopping power on narrow trails and in difficult conditions.

The Ambush iS features six 8-volt batteries, with four batteries under its seat and two additional batteries under the vehicle’s hood. The new battery configuration is optimized to provide better weight distribution on the front of the vehicle, resulting in better traction in front wheel drive operation.

Safety features such as an occupant protective structure (OPS), three-point seat belts and side safety nets are standard on the Ambush iS.

To accommodate the needs of any hunting party, the Ambush iS will be available in a two-passenger model with a 9.6-cubic-foot cargo bed, or a four-passenger model with a rear-facing back seat.  The Ambush iS is available in matte black, matte green, flame red,  Realtree® Max-4™ camouflage, or in Realtree’s newest camouflage pattern, Realtree® Xtra™.

The Ambush iS will be available in September 2013 from Bad Boy Buggies Authorized Dealers. To learn more, or to find your local dealer, visit badboybuggies.com.

  1. Its like looking at a SCAR or a Ed-Brown…yes I want one really bad…but how much does this thing cost vs. the traditional gas powered offerings from Polaris, Yamaha etc…..damn me for being practical….

  2. Well, I suppose have no engine sounds is a good thing, but even in silent drive mode, it’s still going to make a decent amount of noise driving over the sticks and twigs and leaf litter on the ground. I want one, and I have no reasonable use for it.

  3. pretty cool, but the only hunting vehicle I can really afford is my old Honda Trail 90 with a Rubbermaid box on the back. Still haven’t tried to haul a deer out on the back.. maybe this fall?

  4. I kept reading the headline as a sentence with weirdly insistent emphasis: “Assault IS Hunting Vehicle.”

  5. Friend has a car with only 2 wheels. Honda Gold Wing with 10 speaker sound system, GPS with heads up display, trailer hitch, many more accessories than my car has, he paid around 15K (that he admits) for it new. I would much rather have the above.

  6. As someone who has to contend with morons driving these stupid things all over the place in Wyoming during hunting season, I’d like to see them banned on public lands. ATV owners have completely wrecked the quality of hunting in the west.

  7. If you’re really that concerned about engine noise just get a damn horse, for the love of Erebus.

  8. I think Bad Boy Buggies are excited about the electric and hybrid models not only because they eliminate noise, but also because they are more environmentally friendly.
We all need to get the need for speed outta our head and focus on stealth.
Who wants to hit a log doing 60 MPH? They make a nice product now.

  9. Hope they are better than the 2013 ambush. Mine is already back at a dealership . I loved it when I got it. But now I know the real truth. You find out how good a company is when you have problems not when things are working good. As soon as it get it back it’s up for sale. Maybe one of the famous video hunting advertisers will want to actually buy what they advertise. I doubt it though they already know the service is horrible. Do your research before you buy. I didn’t and now I’m very disappointed.

  10. I bought this machine. In a word, Wow! I have been able to use it around the farm to ease up on Turkey. Deer are too easy. Raccoons, Possums, and other predators don’t stand a chance. I lost my right foot in an Ambush in Afghanistan 2010, I use my Ambush iS (Ironic right?) to assist me in numerous task around the farm. The 48 EV side of the hybrid takes sometime to charge, but all the same the gas side is amazing. Together, they deliver enough power to get you out of the nastiest of situations. I did however 2500 wench on my buggy, just incase. BULF, very nice for all types of applications…

  11. PURE JUNK NO CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM EZGO. THEY BREAK CONSTANLY
BUY A JOHN DEERE, KUBOTA OR BOBCAT SIDE BY SIDES IF YOU NEED ONE
