Barrett has updated its Model 98B bolt-action precision rifle with a new lightweight all-aluminum chassis that includes an integral KeyMod rail, a 24-inch stainless steel barrel, and a 10-round detachable magazine. At the SHOT Show Media Day, Barrett was letting folks shoot a sample chambered for 7mm Rem. Mag . . .

Tipping the scales at just over nine pounds, this gun delivers long-range performance in a (relatively) lightweight package. We were able to easily hit the 900 meter gongs with ease using the dope dialed in by the Barrett employees.

The Barrett 98B Fieldcraft has an MSRP of … $4,000.

  1. Not impressed with their choice of caliber… At all.

If they offered it in the popular varmint calibers, I’d be first in line. (Come onnnnnnn, .220 Swift!)

Wouldn’t mind a .300WM version either, if you want to go the big bore route. But 7mm Mag? Come on.

    • I believe that is what the US Army is using for sniper rifles.
That target market plus SWAT teams would be the volume buyers for a $4000 rifle like this, correct?

  2. when the following takes place: a check that large is written for a behemoth with barrett printed on the side that i drag out into the sticks and shiver the timbers of an abandoned frame house, that gat will damn well display .50 and mean it.

  3. Hey, that’s my gun range. I’d recognize that shaggy spray-foamed roof and desert any day 😀

Which is why it was closed all last weekend through the holiday.
