Weighing in at a scant 5.2 oz. the new Ultralight Aluminum Stock from Elf Tactical is sure to be a popular component on ultralight AR15 builds. The stock is built like a tank and has absolutely no rattle, it’s rock solid.

Installation is simple, slide it over an AR buffer tube and tighten the knurled knob.

The Elf Tactical Ultralight Stock silently adjustments, no clicking into detent holes you can position the stock anywhere on the tube you like.

The aggressively textured butt provides no padding but looks cool.

The old Jurassic Park rule, If it’s heavy it’s expensive, doesn’t apply here. The Elf Ultralight Aluminum Stock goes for $199. That might sound a little expensive but think about it, the lighter your wallet is the better.

The TTAG lightweight component desk (which is headed up by our heaviest staff member) received one of these for testing.

  1. The MFT minimalist allegedly weighs 5.8, and looks a whole lot better. Also, it costs $50 and you can attach a sling to it. I really appreciate your work, don’t get me wrong, just saying this isn’t my cup of tea.

One of those LAW folding stocks now, that’s cool. Do you see doing a review someday?

“That might sound a little expensive but think about it, the lighter your wallet is the better.” lol

      • Have you tried shaving with Hoppes? I did that when I was about 14 or 15 it helped a lot. I would recommend just applying it to your face.

        • Maybe it’ll change the genetic makeup of my cells and I’ll have a Kyrie Irving level beard next week.

          Will update later.

    • Heck you can get the Chicom MFT knockoff for $13 on eBay complete with free shipping directly from the redland. Plenty of colors too. I’m going to order the one in MAGA brown.

    • Totally agreed on the MFT Minimalist. That stock is a solid win.

This, however, is a swing and a miss. Not ergonomic whatsoever, cold on your face, rips operator beard out, price is downright INSULTING, and only pics up 0.2 ounces on the MFT? fail, Fail, FAIL. Back to the drawing board, dudes.

      • I guess the question isn’t really fair. It’s assumed it’ll have more ‘twist-ablility’ than a fixed-stock, but does it seem like it would be moreso (more than the H&K collapsible ones)?

    • Joe, I think Chris was taking many liberties with this review that were not his to take. “Built like a tank” describing something that has all of the solid framework of a $10 microphone stand. Why should this be a thorough and objective review when we’re used to low standards?

  2. The only “snag” is when you get it caught in your pocket. I have one I like that has a ? takeup? clamp on it. Push to slide and then snap it down. Swapped for it. Magpul something.

  3. My Pardus weighs in at 2oz more and was $5 at a gun show. For $200 I’m going the whole PDW stock route for a few bucks more.

    • My goodness that’s a finely manicured thumbnail in the second picture. You boys really need to get out in the world more often. The office and range don’t cut it no more.

      • We are not allowed in the real world. Robert takes us on walks occasionally but for the most part we are locked up. We have the internet but safe search is on so we have no sex lives either. Send help!

        • I tried, but the help was driving a Ford Escape Ecoboost with a baby Groot and SIG sticker on the rear window, but some crazy guy on a cell phone drove him off the road trying to take pictures on the freeway.

  4. The $40 Magpul MOE stock weighs 8 ounces, so you’re spending an extra $159 here to save… 2.8 ounces.

For perspective, a round of 55 grain .223 ammo weighs about 0.4 ounces. Seven (7) rounds would weigh 2.8 ounces.

If you start with a full magazine and shoot seven rounds, does the gun feel lighter? Does it feel $159 lighter?

  5. Or buy a smokes composite ar stock. Its the stock and buffer tube, weighs 6 to 8 ounces total. If your going lightweight the buffer tube weighs 5 or 6 itself….
