Fostech is now taking deposits for their [sight unseen] Echo AK trigger, a binary trigger for the AK platform. A binary trigger will fire one round when pulled and a second round when the trigger is released. The ATF has declared these triggers are not machine guns and are legal to own, however some states disagree . . .
The National Firearms Act defines “machinegun” as “any weapon which shoots, is designed to shoot, or can be readily restored to shoot, automatically more than one shot, without manual reloading, by a single function of the trigger.” 26 U.S.C. 5845(b).
Single action of the trigger is the important part here, the ATF rightly considers the release of the trigger to be a single function of the trigger.
Fostech can’t make their AR15 Echo trigger fast enough to satisfy demand. I suspect the AK Echo will sell just as fast. The AK platform is not nearly as consistent as the AR so the installation may be a little more complicated. According to Fostech the AK Echo is designed to work in common stamped AK-47 receivers.

This is a deposit for the new ECHO AK Trigger. This trigger will contain the great features of the Echo AR-II but will be for the AK-47 platform of rifles. The current ECHO AK trigger will be for the stamped versions that are most common. The exact models beyond the common stamped AK-47 are still being explored.

Current expectations on delivery will be before the 3rd quarter of 2018. This is also only the deposit on the trigger. The full retail cost of the ECHO AK trigger is $547.00. This deposit will hold your place in line and triggers will be delivered based upon when your deposit is received. When your trigger is complete, FosTecH will contact you to pay the remaining balance of $297.00.
There is also an option to pay for the complete trigger. This is offered for a convenience of our customers that do not want the hassle of having to pay twice. No preferential treatment is given for full payments versus those that pay the deposit.
The ECHO AK trigger will allow you to select between Safe Mode, Semi Auto Mode, & Echo Mode. The secondary disconnect technology is in the ECHO AK which is what makes it legal according to the ATF. The trigger lock technology is also implemented into the ECHO AK which makes your AK very reliable. The ECHO AK is now moving to full production and by taking deposits it allows FosTecH to ramp up to the appropriate numbers for the launch of the product.

Does a binary trigger on an AK allow you to miss your target twice as fast?
How are you supposed to disengage the trigger once pulled in binary mode? On the AR version you have to flip the saftey lever back to the safe position…that would be a stupid task with the trigger pulled on a AK, especially if you’re right handed.
There are some ambi AK safeties that can be used with your trigger hand, most still on the right side but some on the left side near the grip that you can use with your thumb.
Bump stocks are novelties, binary triggers are NOT. Binaries are probably better than actual full-auto by virtue of slower but still rapid cyclic rate but without your off hand throwing off the muzzle from the target.
Franklin Armory has the HK trigger pack, the AR and ACR. Now Fostech has the AK. AK/RPK owners now have a trigger system that restores rapid fire functionality, which actually gives a purpose to owning an RPK. There’s nothing more useless than a semi-auto SMG, except a semi-auto beltfed/squad-automatic. Even just the binary mode is a a game changer for those guns.
They are a little late. Liberty Gun Works inc the original designer of the bidirectional trigger design, for the AR platform, developed the DoubleTAK system for the AK platform over a year ago it sells for $200 on their website.
The Liberator Bi-Directional Trigger System is indeed for a 7.62 x 39 caliber, but is it for an AR platform. (You almost had me excited for a moment there) — as of 2/19/2018 it sells for 300.00
