Armalite is introducing two new AR-10 rifles at SHOT. Both rifles will bear the designation “AR-10A,” but they will be two distinct builds (thankfully avoiding my pet peeve of minor differences warranting a completely new model designation). The first (pictured above) will be a Semi-Auto Sniper System, and the second one (after the jump) will be a M4-esque .308 rifle. While that’s cool and everything, the biggest difference with these rifles is that they will be designed to accept Magpul’s .308 PMAG as well as Armalite’s typical waffle magazine design. (Geneseo, IL) ArmaLite, Inc. is pleased to announce the AR-10A. This new option of the famous AR-10 will accept traditional ArmaLite “waffle” magazines and some 3rd party magazines.
ArmaLite customers asked for a choice, and that’s just what we’ve provided. The AR-10A family of ArmaLite® firearms is functionally identical to our AR-10B family. Operation, controls, and maintenance are the same. However, the AR-10A family is designed to accept early ArmaLite AR-10 “Waffle” magazines and good quality magazines copied from them, instead of ArmaLite’s proprietary aluminum magazines that are used in our AR-10B family. Neither family of firearms will function correctly with the other family’s magazines.
We have tested, we recommend, and we ship polymer Magpul PMAG® 20LR magazines with our AR-10As. Other similar derivative magazines such as the KAC, M110, and DPMS / Remington 19 round magazines may fit and may function, but we have not tested them so we can’t assess their reliability. Looks like a decent middle of the road .308 precision rifle. I wouldn’t put it up there with an LMT,GAP-10 or a REPR but it’ll get the job done for most people.
Gee…it is raining 7.62 NATO Battle Rifles. So what does this do that the M14 does not? Will it fire full auto and control any better than an M-14? Or is it in the real world a semi-auto like the M-14?
I think everyone wants to get on the 7.62 NATO is that the military is refurbishing a lot of M-14s for a squad marksmen program now that the M-4 has shown it does not have the range in the sand box.
The M-14 is not as accurate as most people think so there is one,it’s also getting older and harder to maintain,they are notoriously finicky accuracy wise I.E a bent op rod gives you 6moa,the bedding doesn’t hold
Up well (some gunners using NM m1A’s learned how to clean there rifles without leaving the stocks to keep the bedding secured) the M-14 is a great rifle,but we can do better.
Oh,and it is much,much easier to accessorize and modify.
Well that’s good news. That whole magazine clusterf$ck is what originally turned me off on the various ar-10’s.
I’m still leaning towards a RFB or a M1A though.
Nice looking rifle but I recently purchased a Bushmaster .308 ORC that’s a great shooting rifle, so I’m not in the market at this time…
It’s nice to see a little more consistency within the 308 AR platform. In the long run I think it will really benefit the platform, just as the AR15 has a plethora of accessories.
I have 3 armalites 2 ar10t’s, 1 supersass. I love all 3 of these rifles! They all shoot great. They take armalite mags but thats ok it seems lately that the price has come down on them alil bit and thats cool.

Ya Know, I hear so much about the M-14, I kind of wonder how few of you ever carried such a weapon in battle? For accuracy, even though its an anchor, the Garand will out perform any m-14 up to any open sight range, and it dosent foul, I did two tours in nam, m-14 scrap Iron says Me, and it rattled so bad, I threw mine away too noisy even to carry no matter how you wrapped it, and I picked up a Ak, as we Artillery guys got no AR 15-stuff. I also found all the ammo I needed, so you didnt have to carry much, dont compare these as it wont change what really was, They also got so shot even on bursts, the hand guard not only caught fire, it couldnt be shot for any time without something to lay it on . Acciracy was always iffy, and I hated it, as did my brothers. Commies I hate but like it or not the Ak variants are all miraculous field weapons used for what they were intended, ,thnks gun chief, 2nd gn Btln/ 32field arthillery 65-67 Ps I was a forward observer-fire direction Opps.
