This isn’t exactly new, but it’s a variation of the standard Triage knife that would have come in handy a few weeks ago. I was cutting the clothes of a drunk driver we were in the process of backboarding and the only thing I had on hand was the same pointy knife I used to gut that deer in Texas. I was constantly afraid of slicing into the guy instead of his clothes. This knife, with the blunt tip, would have removed my concern and the hook would have really helped with that pesky seatbelt. MSRP is somewhere around $100, so not cheap but not the most expensive thing they make.
RF: Barrett MRAD.
I would love one of these, but I’m a sucker for knives. For many of the purposes you describe, you might consider a Boker Cop Tool [review on my now-defunct blog] as an affordable alternative. I’ve been carrying one for years.
Very nice.
Wouldn’t scissors be a better choice for cutting clothes off of someone?
I have the NSN Triage and have used it to cut pants off a PT as well as general EMT duties. It is the perfect EMT knife.
If you want another piece of (similar) gear that is a bit easier to keep around, the Rip Shears (http://www.ripshears.com/RipShears/Home.html) are fantastic.
here’s the poor man’s version: http://www.botachtactical.com/gerezoutresu.html
I had the 1st gen easy out (’97) and it had a really crappy safety: you could disengage with light force by one hand on the blade and one hand on the handle (‘break a stick’ motion, both hands).
