CMC Barrels GLOCK barrel

Brand extensions. The good news: they work! Customers who know, trust and love a brand will buy products that stray from the company’s core competency. And how. The bad news . . .

brand extensions open the door to competitors for a formerly untouchable mainline product.

Are Porsche sports cars as desirable now that they’re made by an SUV company? If so, for how long? Meanwhile, CMC Triggers has opened CMC Barrels to make GLOCK gun pipes — that will sell like crazy.

I have every reason to believe that CMC’s fluted ($199) and fluted and threaded ($210) GLOCK barrels are as high quality as everything else the company makes. And redirecting otherwise underutilized Trump slump employees into the barrel biz is a smart strategy.

But I can’t help wonder if CMC should have left their name off the new company. But what do I know, Mr. Truth About Knives? Press release:

CMC’s Match Precision Barrels are the ultimate upgrade drop in barrels for Gen 3 & 4 Glock® 17,19 and 34 Pistols. Our Match Grade barrels are precision machined from Certified, DFARS compliant; pre hardened 416R premium grade stainless steel, to extremely tight tolerances and exacting details.

416R stainless steel is recognized for its corrosion resistance, machinability and high tensile strength; it is the industry standard for premium Match Grade barrel manufacturing.

CMC’s propriety In house machining, production and Quality control inspection process’s allow us to attain an ultra-precise barrel with enhanced slide fit & lock up for improved accuracy.

Our barrels are 6 groove, cut rifled, 1:10 Twist Right Hand, fully QC inspected, double honed (rough and finish) to produce the smoothest bore possible, with a Max Roughness Average (RA) of 12. Finished bore dimensions are held to +/- 0.0005″ tolerance from nominal groove and bore dimensions but the dimensions are uniform to within 0.0002 for maximum consistency, accuracy and quality.

SAAMI, Match Grade specification chambers, precision cut and finished to a maximum Roughness Average (RA) of 16.
The pre hardened 416R stainless steel is stress relieved to an exacting recipe after rifling and final hardness is 38-42 Rockwell C before final barrel profile machining is completed.

Barrels are bead blasted to create a satin finish prior to plating and are available in 3 finish options.

  1. Our tires are made with high quality genuine rubber with proprietary grooved tread design for superior handling. All tires made right here by us include top grade steel belting to ensure steel strength for long life while unique patterns and patented tread designs provide smooth quiet ride…… blah blah blah

This kind of sales tactic reminds me of Dan Coonan.
I’ve been waiting for him to finish his designs for a 44 Mag version 1911. Last time I emailed him he said they have been busy with their new line of Coonan 1911’s in 45 ACP……

    WTF?!

Why the heck would you take a design EVERYBODY makes, make it awesome by loading it in a super popular non auto caliber, make yourself stand out….. THEN… start making them just like everybody else has done for the last 100+ years…..

    bah!

    • I wonder, only half-jokingly, if the only purpose of the .45 Coonan is to fool guys on Gunbroker into thinking they found a Coonan .357 “for only $1000!”

  2. Because .45 auto is where it’s at. Lol…. I see the Glock fans are not satisfied with their stock Glocks, and here I thot they were perfection. Every time I see someone customizing a Glock I laugh because they’re doing just what they put down the owners of 1911s for.

  3. I believe every company that manufactures and sells it under the idea of increasing accuracy for Glock pistols should post accuracy results against a factory stock Glock barrel. Otherwise only market it for changing athestics of the pistol or providing threads for a suppressor. I see way too many companies coming out with what they call match-grade barrels but zero evidence that it enhances anything about accuracy. Due to this lack of due diligence on their part, I have to come to the conclusion their barrels don’t actually increase accuracy.

    • Agreed. These “match” barrels should be tested against the stock bbls for all to see. For that matter, has Glock posted a shoot-off between it’s Gen 4 bbls and the “enhanced” bbl of the Gen 5?

  4. Can’t seem to find a simple answer to a simple question, here go’, what does the three letters CMC stand for in CMC BARRELS.
