This seems to be the year of the AR-10 — everybody and their brother is getting in on the .308 caliber AR style rifles. While CMMG has had an AR-10 in their catalog for quite some time now, what makes this one special is exactly how goddamn light the thing is. Seriously, it was like a longer AR-15, not something in 7.62×51. The rail was a nice touch as well, so fresh off the milling machine that they flew it into town and slapped it on the gun just as the show was opening. Rails where you need them, grippy holes where you don’t. Oh, and they went with a Geiselle trigger for extra awesomeness.
The mk3s are light. A sixteen inch with a CTR stock weighs the same as an AR. Toss in a full 20 round mag and optics and the gun gets pretty heavy.
i don’t see the weight posted anywhere, even on the cmmg site.
Yes. If the people at the booth know, I’d like to have something a bit more quantitative than “goddamn light”.
I don’t value nobodies opinion that uses language like that when describing how light the product was! Have to agree with the Human Being.
Looks like a lot of people are taking General McChrystal’s advice about .223 being “too dangerous for civilians” to heart…
The sweet irony. Battlerifles are such warm, fuzzy, soft, powderpuffs compared to those big, nasty .223’s.
Needs 5R rifling and 7mm-08 chambering since there is no 6.8gpc.
What is msrp and what style magazine does it use?
From the CMMG page, the one pictured has an MSRP of $1999.95. They come with the .308 PMAG, so they are following the DPMS LR-308 and SR-25 pattern.
Now for something different, man boobs.
sorry, couldn’t resist.
They don’t call ’em OFWG’s for no reason.
Hey, I’m a FWG, but not yet an OFWG. ANd I’m working on the F part of that too.
Just picked up a CMMG lower in 7.62 NATO and I have to say it looks fantastic. Built like a tank yet not too heavy, fine machining around the trigger guard. Just a very nice piece of work.
I wish the barrel was longer than 16″. I love the ergonomics of AR-10s, but they’re limiting the .308 performace potential.
I’m not saying it won’t do the job, it’s just better with 18″-22″ barrel.
Any man or North American animal except a grizzly won’t know if it was a 16″ or 20″ barrel, I’m thinkin.
True. I was just stating my preference.
Mine too, Henry. A full powered rifle with less than a 20 inch tube is giving up some of the advantage of having a full power cartridge. And range time is a little less comfortable with that shorter tube.
.308 is twice the price of .270Win, and I can still get hundreds of rounds…hehe…
Why is it we get plenty of pics of “boom boom babes”, but all you have for your female readers are OFWG’s. Get a hold of (Fate Of) Destinee and have her find us some eye candy. As a matter of fact, you should be thinking about adding her to your writing staff as a regular as well. All the testosterone on here is a bit suffocating.
If you overheard me say that the stench of estrogen coming from a group of women was leading to a touch of nausea, what would you then think of me?
I’d most likely agree with you!
Destinee has written a few things that appeared here. I assume she’s pretty busy handling her own YouTube channel, etc. to do much more. I feel it’s pretty likely that just about anything she submitted would get the green light, based on the popularity of her past posts.
Language…
My CMMG M4 LEP II 6.8 SPC piston upper is pretty darn light on top of my PSA Magpul MOE lower. I havent weighed it, but its definitely less than my Ruger SR-556. If anyone can make a light .308, I think CMMG would be up to the task.
Nick, who made the rail? Looks like it uses something similar to Noveske’s KeyMod system.
VLTOR pioneered the keymod design and they made it public open source as far as the dimensions and design of the keyholes and the rail mounts. I know that strike industries has keymod stuff now, eberlestock has it, noveske has it (I didn’t know about them) and CMMG now has it. I even think that they are all calling it by the name of the ” keymod ” system and if they are using the same specifications as the Original all the parts should be interchangeable (rails and accessories). It does seems like a cool system.
All of these new AR10 products look great, but when are the going to hit stores? I’ve been craving to build some but even before this chaos, parts were never in stock. Please tell me these companies are adding new capacity?
I’m kind of surprised that semi-auto .308 Win rifles have been as popular as they are, given that .308 Win ammo is so damned expensive these days. I remember the good ole days when 200 round “battlepacks” were under $30. I saw one at the last gun show and they wanted $225. At a buck a bang, the fun factor is short-lived.
Which is why I’m going the other direction. My .22lr upper should be here today. Picked up 2000 rounds of .22 for $109 at Dicks yesterday.
Cheap shooting is where I am for now. Conserving my .308 and 5.56 stuff until inventories go up and prices go down.
Reloading is your friend. I make 100 rds of .308 for around $40-50, using some pretty nice bullets.
I wonder why quarter bores of various types aren’t more popular in AR chamberings? I know there’s 6.8 (soooo expensive!) and I think Remington has one in .243 but they’re not common.
This post is funny as hell if you read it in Archer’s voice.
Hopefully it has a better bolt catch than their 223 versions. My CMMG busted a bolt catch. The CMMG parts kit I built another rifle with busted and it is all over M4carbine.net about how a lot of people are busting the same part from them.
