This past SHOT Show, Magpul introduced their replacement stock for the Remington 700 line of rifles. The style was typical Magpul — minimalist, but functional and customizable. Classic Magpul chic. Now, for the NRA Show, Magpul is releasing another replacement stock for a different iconic and hugely popular firearm: the Ruger 10/22 rifle.

P1160502

The stock is designed just like the Remington big brother, with an adjustable cheek rest and available spacers to change the length of pull. The grip is straight off the shotgun stocks that they offer, which is very comfortable for a traditional grip style and handles very well. The forend of the stock is lined with slots for M-LOK accessories, and is fitted for Uncle Mike’s sling swivels.

Something also nifty: the stock is convertible. Not only will standard barrel weight 10/22 barrels fit in the stock, but you can spin the barrel insert around and fit bull barrel 10/22 barrels as well. Simple as pie, and easy to change out.

Magpul puts the price of these puppies at $140 (OK, like $0.05 less, but whatever), and availability will be within he next four to six weeks.

    • Tom,

I always wanted a 10/22, it was one of the first rifles I fired, at camp as a little kid but I’d like to find an older one with all metal. What years/serial numbers should I be looking for?

      • Oh. Good question.
There are web sites where you can run serial numbers to get the ‘born on’ date. I don’t recollect when they went plastic. Besides, the trigger is one of the first things to upgrade.
My tack driver/rat shooter is all volquartzen.

    • Because sometimes it’s just fun to tinker. I never left my Mustangs and Cobras alone, why would I leave my guns alone?

    • I tinkered with my first 10/22 so much I ended up with two guns. That’s what happens when you, one at a time, end up replacing every part.

      • For some reason, I tend to shoot my guns stock. I have a hard time justifying a $300 trigger for an AR or upgrading to fancy stocks. Call it utilitarian, spartan, or miserly, but if I have to put more into a gun to make it ‘work’, I usually just don’t buy it.

    • I have the same hatred for them! I hate that they make cool and affordable aftermarket products! Can we expect Magpul 10/22 mags soon too?!?! Pretty please!! I have had excellent results with thier AR and AK mags, want to try out thier new Glock mags.

  1. Why is magpuls stuff so goddamned ugly?
Are there really that many mall ninjas in this country?

  2. If you are a Magpul fan, great! However, Victor Company already makes a similar stock with more features with precision rifle purposes in mind.

  3. I like the looks of that, My only concern is that it costs almost as much as i paid for the entire rifle. The longer length of pull would be nice though since that has always been an annoying aspect of the 10/22 for me.

  4. I like Magpul. I bought a UBR for one of my AR builds and it’s the best collapsible stock that I’ve ever come across. My friends like it too, and agree with me.

  5. Being built like an orangutan I agree on the length of pull issue. The Mini 14 – 10/22 1 inch extended rubber buttpad takes care of that though.
Adjustable cheek rest could be useful.
I see it as a fun accessory, I’ve bitten for less.
How about one for take down models?

  6. They’re not gonna be able to make enough of those 10/22 stocks fast enough. Get ready for a Kel-Tec style waiting list for years to come. I’ll be wanting one in each color.

    • What you just said… Keltec… And Magpul… We need a collaboration SUB2000! then maybe I could find a standard S2K for sale for msrp or lower…

      • One of those followed me home yesterday- .40 caliber, glock mags. The only one in the shop, and they hadn’t even put it out yet (I just happened to mention that I was in the market for one- and they had the exact one I wanted!). It was slightly used- I paid $369 for it, and finally have the truck gun I’ve been wanting.

        • Good score. I want 9mm with Glock mags. I’d prefer one that takes H&K USPc/P2000/P30 mags, since I have a mess of ’em, but you can wish in one hand, $*** in the other, and see which one fills up first.

        • I’m not a fan of the .40, as such. I chose it because in all of my travels over the past couple of years (I’m a traveling salesman), the stores I visit have always had .40 in stock.

  7. Might be time for a change on my 10-22 heavy barrel.
Ive had the same Volquartsen stock for 20+ years.
The best there was in about 1992.

  8. Not in Takedown form (yet, I imagine) and people like Adaptive Tactical and Tapco already beat them to it. Sure they probably don’t have the same quality that Magpul does, but I very much doubt the stress from firing .22LR is going to cause serious problems.

  9. Boy howdy, that is sweet. Got an old heavy synthetic and metal folder from Butler on my son’s 10/22.

Great for what it does, but don’t really need folding and been thinking about a solid dependable fixed stock as an alternative, with max utility and dependability to make it a more accurate range and varmint gun.

What is the experienced 10/22 users consensus on most accurate, best value for money, on the bull barrel?

  10. I like Magpul equipment, but this stock weighs 2.4 lbs. Is that something that I really want to add to my 10/22?

I have an underfolding stock similar to the old Fed Ord underfolders on it now, and it’s a perfect match. Uh, … count me out. 🙂

  11. I like the Hogue overmolded stock that came as part of my bull barrel target/tactical model, but I think I might like this one even better. I definitely will like a longer LOP.

    • Hogue has their overmolded stocks on pre-order for the 10/22 takedown, they even have a thumbhole version coming out.
      I’m waiting for that one.

  12. I bought a 10-22 carbine for S&G about 15 years ago. Never changed a thing, still a tack driver with any ammo. Called Ruger and asked nicely for an old used factory stock. They mailed it to me for FREE. I chopped about 5″ off of it for my 7 year old. Still a tack driver.

  13. C’mon Magpul, make a stock with a MOE or MIAD pistol grip which takes a mil spec AR buffer tube.

    Pretty please?

  14. I’m planning to buy the Hunter 700 for my 308 SPS, but am also considering building a 22 trainer. Am I better with a 10/22 that has the same stock/feel but a different action, or should I get a Savage Mk II so that I am running a bolt gun both ways? Which 22 will be more effective practice for the 308?

  15. Hmmm… that will look nice with the BX-25 extended mag. Looks like it’s just a drop in. Nothing to get in the way of the simple breakdown for cleaning.

  16. Hey guys!

Lots of excitement about the Magpul stock for the 10/22. I just wanted to drop a line and say we are about to release our 10/22 magazine that comes in many of the colors that would match these stocks like FDE, ODG, and of course black. The mags are windowed have steel lips and can be field stripped without tools. Check them out on High Tower Armory’s website. Thanks guys!
