Is this where all the ammo’s been going? MTM Case-Gard says sometimes the safest place to store things is right under foot. Toward that end, they’ve just come out with the Survivor ammo can that’s perfect for subterranean implantation. They don’t give the dimensions, but say it will hold six hundred rounds of .45 ACP. That’s gotta be what…almost 1400 rounds of .22lr? Just make sure you don’t forget where you dig that hole. Press release after the jump . . .

MTM® CASE-GARD™ INTRODUCES THE SURVIVOR AMMO CAN™

BE PREPARED

Since 1968, MTM has continued to design and produce products for the shooting enthusiast.  From ammo boxes to gun rests to clay target throwers, MTM offers a huge variety of products essential to the sportsman.  MTM now introduces their new Survivor Ammo Can.

The Survivor Ammo can was designed to secure important essentials that may be needed in the future.  The Survivor Ammo Can will hide important documents, gear and even emergency food underground.  The capsule is completely waterproof/weatherproof with the double O-ring seal and uniquely designed protective cap.  The protective cap serves dual purposes as it drains water away from the seals with its overlay design, it withstands the additional weight of earth and acts as a vacuum seal that keeps dirt out of the secure screws in the can and endures the possible impact from a shovel with extracting the unit.  The bucket-style design of the Survivor Ammo Can will house up to 600 rounds of .45 ACP or 500 rounds plus a handgun.  Sometimes the safest place to store things is right underfoot.

Survivor Ammo Can uses:

  • Ammo and handguns
  • Documents, coins, jewelry
  • Survival gear
  • Food and water purification means
  • Emergency cash
  • Time capsule

  1. That may seem odd, but in fact, it is a very effective mode for people with some degrees of visual impairment, since when you focus on white
letters, you are focussing on light itself. The intent was
for PDF files to provide a way to distribute documents electronically
and have them display or print consistently regardless of the type of computer system.
Writers are aware of the growing popularity of e – Books and how it
can help their work reach a global audience.

  2. You don’t have to worry about not being able to find it. With the info the NSA collects the authorities will be bringing metal detectors when they come for your guns. It’s a tired saying, but it has some truth, if it’s time to bury them, it’s time to use them.

We ain’t there yet. And who has 600 rounds of .45 or 1400 rounds of .22 to just hide away?

      • I thought you told me it was 10 paces due north from the pine tree…. but that tornado last year wiped out the stand of trees and we had the stumps ground up.

    • “if its time to bury it, its time to use it” i completly agree with this but i also think its a great idea to have a backup. you never know whats going to happen, for all you know your house could have been mobed before you ever get home top get your primary. cheap pistol, rifle, ammo and a few mre’s buried will mean no matter what happens you still have a lifeline

  3. Just don’t confuse your Survivor Ammo Can with your Doggie Dooley Dog Septic Tank. You’ll be GTG and so will Rover.

  4. when i poured a new concrete floor in the basement, i dropped 12″ lengths of 6″ pvc vertically, with a screw top, flush with the floor. pretty cool, but only cash and drugs really fit, of which i have none.

  5. Great, Im ganna need one to keep an extra brain in. Considering the ammount of dumb@ssery going on in D.C. patient zero for the zombie apocolypse may be sitting in the White House.

  6. Were things to that point, I’d sink ordinary ammo cans containing dual-Ziplock’d stuff in the septic tank for later magnetic retrieval. That’d survive anything short of a nuke.

‘Course, things ain’t to that point, and Gods willin’ they never will be ’round these parts.

    Crike.

    • Important note Russ:

Ammunition comes in brass casings and the projectiles are usually made of lead with copper jackets. Last time I checked, none of those were magnetic which would make magnetic retrieval impossible. I suppose you could just dive in to retrieve them.

      /sarcasm

Yes, I know that Russ said to place the ammo in sealed plastic bags inside of ammunition cans that are presumably made of steel … which would be magnetically retrievable. Alternatively, some ammunition has steel casings. I figure lots of people reading his comment would miss those details and I could not resist making a smart comment.

      • I know from past comments that Russ, like myself, shoots crappy old commie guns. No doubt, again like myself, he buys a lot of the crappy surplus ammo to feed his guns. That stuff has so much steel in it and is so impervious to all elements that you could probably dump the lose rounds, no pun intended, and let them soak for a year in the septic tank.

Magnet them out and hose them off and they’d work just fine. Straight from the factory Wolf ammo already smells like a septic tank when you fire it as it is.

      • Um, the old ammo cases are in fact nickel steel. Magnetic, and barely rusts.

        Is a smartass a wisecrack?

  7. Strange … I was literally looking at a catalog showing the MTM-Ammo Can and thinking “Maybe I should get one.” A few second pass by “Nah maybe not.” A few seconds later on my iPhone this article shows up on TTAG.

    • The word you’re looking for is “synchronicity”. (Alternately, “What a crazy random happenstance!”) I generally consider it a hint from the universe when it happens to me. YMMV.

      • How about serendipity? Serendipity means a “happy accident” or “pleasant surprise”; a fortunate mistake.

  8. A 5 gallon bucket with a tight lid and a tube of RTV will hold a lot more, just as we’ll if not better, for a lot less money.

  9. I really don’t get the prepper thing. If the world ends, I’d rather not go on in the post-apocalypse thanks. As was once said: Death is not the worst of evils. If the government comes for my firearms, then as stated it’s time to use them. If it’s just a major disaster that will be sorted out in a few weeks, I can handle that with what I have on hand already.

No thanks. But it looks well made.

  10. So, you go to their website and order one of these. Pay with plastic and NSA sees the transaction in real time. Whoever was serious about dodging big brother wouldn’t be anywhere near a company that handled products like this.

Course, anybody serious about dodging big bro wouldn’t be anywhere near TTAG, either.

    • Welcome to TTAG, you’re now on 4 government watch lists and are a blip on the NSA’s radar. Congrats.

    • Go to your local discount co-opt (like Bi-Mart) and ask that they order in 6 of em for you, pay cash

  11. Meh … you can make your own containers out of PVC pipe, PVC caps, and a PVC threaded top fitting. As long as you use PVC solvent weld (glue) for the cap and PTFE (teflon) tape on the threaded fitting, it will probably last at least 100,000 years buried underground. Oh, and you could probably drive a bulldozer over it and not crack it.

Disclaimer: given the cost of building materials these days you may not save any money actually making your own container out of PVC pipe.

  12. How about making them longer… say collapsed ar15 size.. bet there is a market for that.. especially in CA, And NY…

    • Naw, the only folks in California with EBR’s are gang bangers. And they ain’t hiding them. Legal folks in Ca. have things like bullet buttons and 10 round mags. Who would bury those?

      • I’d love to bury the 10 round mag, bullet buttons and the careers of those who enacted them…

  13. A post censored because I correctly spelled c0ckroaches?!? Flippin’ delightful.

Y’know, the BBS software is published by its provider. That means that its list of “nasty” words is published as well.

Publishing “profanity” in an unrestricted manner violates the CDA.

  14. 5 gallon plastic paint bucket with plastic lid, buried three feet down.

The six-foot scary-smart c0ckroaches’ll be puzzling over your disassembled AR 10,000,000 years from now.

    • Those 6 foot c0ck-a-roaches will have phased plasma rifles in the 4o watt range by then. The only question the superbugs will have about that AR is “Why?”.
