At the heart of all VERSA MAX Sportsman autoloading shotguns is the patented VersaPort® gas piston system, an extremely-reliable, semi-automatic operating system consisting of seven gas ports and two gas pistons for enhanced load versatility, while softening recoil and reducing maintenance. The VersaPort gas system self-regulates gas pressure based on the length of the shell, for reliable cycling no matter the load.
Additionally with its self-cleaning gas piston system, overall maintenance time and effort is greatly reduced. With fewer parts than conventional gas systems, not only is cleaning easier but there are fewer parts to maintain. From the lightest 2-¾-inch target loads to the heaviest 3-½-inch magnums, the VERSA MAX Sportsman cycles with ultimate consistency, softer recoil and less maintenance than ever experienced before.
Designed for the field the VERSA MAX Sportsman 12-gauge autoloader features a mil-spec anodized aluminum receiver for overall weight reduction and corrosion resistance with superior strength of design; synthetic stock featuring a SuperCellTM recoil pad; 4140 hammer-forged steel barrel with a ventilated rib that is stepped, tapered and undercut for consistent sighting; drilled and tapped receiver for mounting optics; sling studs for ease of carrying; over-sized cross-bolt safety; Pro Bore modified choke tube; ivory bead front sight with steel mid bead; and a 3+1 shell capacity for 2 ¾ & 3-inch shotshells and 2+1 for 3 ½-inch shotshells.
Initial VERSA MAX Sportsman offerings include a 28-inch black synthetic version and a 28-inch Mossy Oak Duck Blind® full camo version with a suggested retail price of $1,025 and $1,175 respectively. In January 2013, three additional 12-gauge models will be introduced – a 26-inch black synthetic offering, a 26-inch Realtree® AP™ fully-camouflaged version and a 22-inch Mossy Oak Obsession® turkey version.

Near 1200 bucks for a mass produced shotgun. I guess I missed the news of the full economic recovery that must have occurred.
The Italians are mass producing shotguns in the $4K to $10K range with CNC machines, laser checkering, etc…. and selling them quite nicely. Look at Caesar Guerini, Benelli, Beretta, Fausti, et al.
Huh. For that amount of $ I’d rather go with the (proven) Russki auto-loader for 1/3 the price.
Warning Versa Max users: Do not be caught in possession of or proximity to shorter shells when hunting under 3 shot capacity state or federal regulations. Note: Market potential for lighter 3.5″ shotshell loads.

It looks like a clone of a Benelli. I don’t think there’s much unique here aside from using gas ports in the chamber area and using the length of the shell to meter the gas for different length/weight loads.
While it’s nice to see a US gun company start taking interest in the higher-end market (even if it’s only a semi-auto), I have to ask “WTF took so long? The Italians have been carting off boatloads of cash from US gun owners for two decades, and just now you’ve decided you want to start competing with their low-end, black synthetic/parkerized products? Sheesh.”

Well I just bought the new Remington Versa sportsman I absolutely love it and the price vary good and reliable shot gunn ever built I like it a lot better than my 1187 super mag waterfowl when I seen this new Remington versa max sportsman I couldn’t get my hands off of it in the sporting goods. ( :

Well i just got this new versa max and its freack awesome and i got mine from academy sports for like 899 so its pretty cheap for this badass shot gun. I also have a beneli a400 for some reason i perfer the versa max but the new browning a5 is most likely the best shotgun yet but hard to find cause they are so new

I have both the 1187 and the new versa max and I have to say the versa max is fare better to me, it will shoot any type of shell, lighter and is faster. I got t just for turkey huntinog so I went with a pattern master choke 665 and with 3.5 it number six shot and it shoots as good as any gun I have ever owned! I have had them hi dollar benellis and they didn’t shoot any better than the versa max. Don’t speed the extra money. Love my versamax!!!!
I’ve been saving my “garage sale” pocket change for over a year now to get a Benelli M4 like two of my buddies, and I’m still only 1/2 way to the price tag. Then I discover Versa Max, with near identical mechanics and performance and I’ve found them on Gunbroker for 1/2 the price of the Italians. Buy American! If you’re willing.

Got my Versa Max Sportsman at Dicks sporting Goods in Oct. Had a promotion I couldn’t pass up. I got rid of my Beretta A300 after I bought the Remi. $899 + $100 rebate from Remington and a $50 gift card from Dicks I used as a Christmas gift. Can you say $749 Versa Max. Shop around Y’all
