You into cowboy action shooting? Me neither. But you don’t have to be to appreciate this beauty. Uberti makes plenty of offerings to tote when your spurs go jingle jangle jingle. And Taylors and Co. sells em. No biggie there. But what’s worthy of note are the Ubertis that Taylors’ smithies work on to make them Deluxe. That’s the Smoke Wagon single action six shooter, above, that’s had the full Deluxification job done to it: trigger job, hammer job, polished internals and a new handspring. I played with a standard revolver as well as a Deluxe gun and can tell you that there’s a world of difference in the feel after Taylors has done their thing. And given the level of upgrade, the added cost isn’t bad. A standard Smoke Wagon in .357, .44-40 or .45 LC runs $540. The ‘Deluxed’ model is $640. Yeeeee haaaaaaa!

  1. When last I checked, single action revolvers were exempt from California’s assinine handgun roster. I see Uberti’s at the lgs quite often. They are handsome guns. The last time I shot one that belonged to a friend was in the .45 colt caliber. The gun and cartridge work well together.

  2. The last Uberti I picked up (in .357 mag) was slick as snot. Most of what you feel is the lighter handspring. The internals on these guns are nearly nonexistent, mostly just the hamme and trigger and a couple of springs. Smooth out the sear, polish the hammer, and the difference is amazing. And pretty easy to do unless there is a cylinder lock issue.

  3. You can feed these beasts till the cows come home, good bye to the gunshop queues hello to the hardware & chemist store queues.

  4. I really love revolvers. I just wish they didn’t print so much for CC–makes it hard to justify them 🙁

  5. Honestly, I’m tired of back orders on stuff, and the background checks, I’m seriously thinking about cap and ball. Some of these guns are pretty sweet.

  6. Joe Grine has a couple of Uberti rifles, and they’re just breathtaking. I’d pick up one of these in a heartbeat, but my Cowboy jones is already taken care of with my Blackhawk and a couple of lever guns.

  7. Unfortunately, I’m in the boat that many people are in who kick themselves for letting guns go that we had.
One of them is my Colt nickle plated Python .357 which I bought new and the other my Ruger Blackhawk .44 magnum, or the original 3 screw Ruger.
So….on 8/14/15, I ordered a Taylors Smoke Wagon 4109DE (deluxe) which is the 4 3/4 inch barrel in .45 Colt. Taylors is hand-picking one out that has the darkest color case hardened colors, which is what I wanted. I should get it next week. I finally get to own another revolver. There is nothing like pulling the hammer back on a SA.

  8. I have pairs of Deluxe Smoke Wagons and Sass Rutgers New Vaqueros. I really can’t decide which I like more. I’m going to get a Deluxe Smoke Wagon pair in.45 Colt with 7.5 inch Barrels. I had a Cowboy Gun Collection of 10 Revolvers and 9 Uberti rifles for 10 years and sold every gun to a fellow. I had a custom built .45 Long Colt 1873 that was all nickel plated and had deluxe Wood and Creedmore sights with 30 inch full octagon barrel.I had communication with Uberti in Italy and waited a year to receive the rifle. I called to Italy to inquire about the rifle and at that time I was advised that they weren’t satisfied with the nickel plating and would be replating the rifle. This rifle was one beautiful jewel and everyone was amazed with it like I was. I didn’t dare shoot the rifle although I knew it would be a great shooter. Most of my guns were in unfired or like new condition. I wish that I kept the beautiful collection and I have got the bug to do it again even though I lost interest in Cowboy Action. I live on San Juan Island and it was to much of an adventure in time and expense to get off island.
