Guncrafter Industries are best known for their 50GI model. That would be a 1911 that fires a bespoke .50 GI caliber round. Needless to say, the Danish-born Arkansas gunmaker can’t live on strangely-calibered high-end pistols alone. So, continuing the military motif, Mr. Zimmerman has created the Frag. No, it’s not a gun designed to shoot senior officers. Nor is it the nickname for the ill-fated muppet show. The Frag was named for the gun’s checkering, inspired by the MK2 Pineapple “fragmentation” grenade. The $3285 Frag’s matching grips compliment the front strap. Not to coin a phrase, it’s the bomb. You can order the gun in several finishes (or even just one) to create a durable and functional package that you can use every day and hand down to the next generation of enthusiasts in your family. The “Frag” is available in both 5” Government, and 4.25” Commander sized configurations in your favorite 1911 calibers— other than the 50GI.
Price?
Can’t find it on their site, but if it’s priced like their other models, somewhere north of $2K. The cheapest 1911 they have is $2700.
Price added: $3285.
For $3285 I’d demand that it come with someone to shoot it.
$3300 for a 1911 with some unique grips?!
To all 1911 owners: If this appeals to you, I will gladly stick some plastic grips in a waffle maker and send them to you for the low low price of $1200. I will include a FRAG airbrush template for your slide at no additional cost.
Act now and I’ll include a gold spray paint kit so you can match those monstrosities from SHOT.
It makes that titanium Webley knockoff (the Nirbheek) made by the IOF in India look like a pretty good bargain.
A sweet and functional 1911! It is the BOMB!
I think you misspelled “boring”
I thought he misspelled “insanely priced”.
Boring is not the word dude.
No, bird is the word.
Word.
Favorite 1911 calibers? .45 ACP and…..nope. .45 ACP.
Here too … but I’m looking forward to trying 22TCM.
It’s a 1911. With grips.
The frontstrap checkering looks identical to that on the frontstrap of my XDm.
Agreed. Coming from a 1911 fan boy: meh. At $3200 it had better do a helluva lot more than my $600 Remington.
Yeah charging $3300 for a 1911 with a fancy grip and that shoots a weird caliber just doesn’t seem like a good deal to me. Of course I’m perpetually broke…. so maybe I’d be more excited if I had the money to throw around.
Very nice indeed! Guncrafter Industries puts out a very high quality product, albeit at a commensurate price.
I’d question how one could objectively justify three times the cost of a normal handgun through quality or, even better, results.
That’s a handsome gun, but it’s way too expensive for me.
Well, having thrown both the Pineapple (Dummy-for practice) and the M67 (Live-for real), the design only marginally resembles a “Frag.”
Sorry, I’d never get past the name. For me, frag will always mean killing an officer or NCO with a grenade (which might be justifiable in some circumstances). And if I was going to spend that much on a firearm, I’d be heading back to the post on the Cooper rifles. NEVER for a 1911. And I like 1911s. But not for that price.
Agreed–I’d spend the money for a rifle like that, but this? No thanks.
No kidding…let’s do the math:
FN SCAR + EoTech < Frag
“For me, frag will always mean” …
… hitting a target dead-on with the rocket launcher in Quake.
Different generations…
Meh.
Is it lighter than 2 pounds and can hold more than 8 rounds? No?
Not interested.
For this price range there are several 1911s I’d prefer
I think the operative word here is “several.” As in, you could buy several of them for that price.
No kidding.
I really like my SW1911. Even with its Crimson Trace grip, I could have 3 more for the price of this thing. No thanks.
Seriously, 2014 year of the expensive 3k gun no one buys 🙂 It better aim itself for that price.
I guess since the Damascus steel 1911 isnt for sale, someone has to keep trying to be top dog.
EDIT: Maybe for a rifle, not a pistol.
Looks cool, Would love to shoot it, but for 3 grand i would rather purchase 3 guns instead of 1.
So is this THAT much better than a nice loaded Springfield? Really?
I’m always excited by a “new” hundred year old pistol. I’m almost as excited by a new, plastic, striker fired 9mm pistol. Or a “new” AR-15.
The level of innovation in the firearms industry is astonishing.
It’s kind of hard to innovate on shit that works.
What if you added another one? Like making a double barrel, maybe triple barrel?
I mean: If one is good then two should be twice as good, right?
No idea dude. Why don’t you try it and report back?

Perfect for guys that can’t shoot.
I’m sure that’s been said more than once before some innovator comes along and changes the game.
You are right. It just hasn’t happened in like 100 years or so.
If they want to innovate, can they focus on cutting the cost to us while NOT sacrificing quality?
Well, if he can manage to sell an $800 pistol with “custom” grips that are worth MAYBE a hundred more for $3300, all the power to him. And I suspect he will sell them–a fool is born every minute. I can see the value in a Cooper rifle or a Blaser–the craftsmanship in the wood is exquisite, but this? I don’t see it. But then, I don’t see the value in any 1911 priced more than $1400 (except for rare antiques).
They should have made a glock .40 with those grips, since they have a reputation of blowing up. To complete the package they should have made it in OD Green.
$3000 for a 1911 with custom grips — lol! Bitch better come with a couple M67s.
Clearly, you cats don’t have a clue about Guncrafter.
One of those overpriced, break-in-period things?
Uh, no.
The 1911 market is getting as bad as the one for black rifles. Another high end 45. Yawn and I am 1911 fanboy. The purist form of the 1911 is the combat pistol. That is $750-$1000 piece. If you spent more money than a Colt you have wasted your money unless you are competitive shooter. The only other reason to spend more is if you are getting an early model.
This entire comment section advertises the outright ignorance or even right out stupidity we have in the firearms world today. It’s called Google, it’s great.
What you are getting is an incredibly well made $3200.00 1911 and free cosmetics. Like Garrett said.
Cost is in the labor mostly, 40+ hours and each part started life as a forged billet slug. Frame and slide included. If you want a hand crafted, full billet handgun this is where to go.
