We won’t know what’s in the Garden State gun grabbers’ bills until later today. But Rob Eichmann [via conservativenewjersey.com] reports that NJ Democrats have introduced 18—count ’em 18—gun control bills yesterday. [Full list after the jump] As our tipster pointed out, even the names are scary: “A-3676 Requires psychological evaluation and in-home inspection as prerequisite to purchase firearm.” Clearly, no matter what happens or, preferably, doesn’t happen with gun control at the federal level, the lights (of liberty) are going out all over the Northeast. Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island legislatures are scrambling to implement post-Sandy Hook civilian disarmament legislation. Illinois residents are FAR from safe, and gun owners living within liberal enclaves within red states (e.g., Denver) are also at risk of losing some if not all of their Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms. The battle for firearms freedom is joined. Again. Still.
A-3645/S-2476 Requires ammunition sales and transfers be conducted as face-to-face transactions.
A-3646/S-2474 Establishes a regulatory system to govern the sale and transfer of ammunition.
A-3653 Criminalizes purchasing or owning weapon if person has previous conviction of unlawful possession of weapon.
A-3659 Revises definition of destructive device to include certain weapons of 50 caliber or greater.
A-3664 Reduces lawful maximum capacity of certain ammunition magazines in New Jersey.
A-3666/S-2465 Prohibits mail order, Internet, telephone, and any other anonymous method of ammunition sale or transfer in New Jersey.
A-3667 Requires mental health screening by licensed professional to purchase a firearm.
A-3668/S-2467 Prohibits investment by State of pension and annuity funds in companies manufacturing, importing, and selling assault firearms for civilian use.
A-3676 Requires psychological evaluation and in-home inspection as prerequisite to purchase firearm.
A-3687 Disqualifies person named on federal Terrorist Watchlist from obtaining firearms identification card or permit to purchase handgun.
A-3688 Requires mental health evaluation and list of household members with mental illness to purchase firearm.
A-3689 Requires security guards who carry weapons to wear certain uniform, including identification card.
A-3690/S-2430 Declares violence a public health crisis, recommends expansion of mental health programs, recommends federal adoption of gun control measures, and establishes “Study Commission on Violence.”
AJR-89 Urges President and US Senate to ratify Arms Trade Treaty proposed by United Nations.
AR-133 Expresses support for creation of task force on gun control led by Vice President Biden.
S-2464 Regulates sale and transfer of rifle and shotgun ammunition.
S-2475 Reduces maximum capacity of ammunition magazines to 10 rounds.
SR-92 Urges Congress to strengthen gun control laws.
“A-3676 Requires psychological evaluation and in-home inspection as prerequisite to purchase firearm”
This is my favorite one. Home inspections?…ya FOAD.
This is Australia and New Zealand.
As scary as most of them are, this one is the scariest IMO:
“AJR-89 Urges President and US Senate to ratify Arms Trade Treaty proposed by United Nations.”
B…b…but, they PINKY SWORE the UN arms treaty had *nothing* to do with civilian firearm ownership! Well, this and the fact that the draft called for an international registry of firearms and owners, and draconian requirements on manufacturers/importers/exporters to “prove” the firearms and ammo they trade would never be used to “violate human rights”, however that would be done.
Home inspection: welcome to German legislation!
Say good bye to freedom!
This is bullshit you have to have a in home inspection, cant buy ammo over the internet,50cal considered a destructive device, mental health evaluation. what do they not understand about the 2nd amendment.
In home inspection…
That’s not good.
How else can they check for Romney posters, copies of American Rifleman, and then leave a bug if things look a bit too creative. And for god’s sake, hide your copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops. Nothing but Disney videos and perhaps a spray of marigolds in a vase.
“VER ARE YOUR PAPERS, YOUR PAPERS, SNELL, SNELL”
Further splitting the nation along Red and Blue lines.
Come on, it’s not like only one of the political parties is responsible for introducing this type of legislation, right?
You want to name an equal number of Republican sponsored bills to the Dems that are this onerous?
I think USMC was being sarcastic since we always had that handful of Democrats who like guns claiming “Don’t try to make this a partisan issue! I’m a Democrat and like guns!”
Totenglocke, you hit the nail on the head
Totenglocke, you hit the nail on its head
If any of you voted Democrat, then you voted for this whole gun ban-bonanza. You’re part of the problem, because you believe more government is better. Well, this is exactly what happens when you expand the government and its powers. I consider myself more of a libertarian; I’m not saying that Republican are much better, and sure, there are Democrats who are exception to the rule, but on average this whole anti-gun and anti-gun ownership narrative is part of the Democrats’ agenda much more so than Republicans’.
Sheesh… that’s like someone saying “I’m gay but I like women!”
“We democrats think that deep down, guns are good for society.” That’s why they want to bury them deep down.
Along proto-fascist and Constitutional lines.
Can we call a meeting with these f**ckers, say, in the middle of commuter RR tracks? No… we don’t hear a train whistle. You should get your hearing checked. Would you like a cup of coffee? We’re buying…
The race to the bottom has begun!
Which state will achieve progressive utopia first?!
Illinois? California, the heavyweight champ? Hawaii? New Jersey? Place your bets now!
How bad is Hawaii?
A democratic paradise. Veritable people’s republic. Not only THAT, horrendously expensive.
It’s also 2500 miles from everything. That could have something to do with it…
Interestingly HI has mighty tight gun laws and low violent crime, but lots of property theft. They get to (for the most part) control the guns.
But HI is different than mainland US, the culture is different. You can’t compare the two
Tight gun laws are just another social welfare program for petty criminals. Fewer of them get shot, so theft provides a more stable living for those unsuited to any other trade.
A sawbuck on “Kalifornia” they haven’t let me down yet…LOL
Yep, they are a LARGE state too, and have a big influence on our societal breakdowns.
Time to call your reps and Senators if you live there and say NO. And you can see new England politicians are the scum of the earth.
That’s not going to do anything. The majority of politicians and officials in NJ are either anti-gun and / or anti gun-ownership. Whether it’s the cops or the government, Reps or Dems, probably 80%+ don’t like the idea of us little people owning guns. Calling them doesn’t help, it just confirms their “fears” of how many gun owners are actually out there. They think of us as potential criminals I think.
Not all of this nonsense will pass, but some will. Like the 10 round mag capacity ban (from the current 15 round), and probably the mental health screening and face to face only ammo sales. Yep, won’t surprise me at all if that passes. In fact, the more unreasonable the proposed law is, the more likely it is to pass here in NJ. Sad but true.
if using my 2A rights means an in home inspection then in order for anyone to use their 1A rights they need to be psychologically screened. Whats that about the pen is mightier than the sword.
The legislators are desperately in need of psychological evaluation!
Very sad.
hey pocono, don’t forget the pafoa rally in harrisburg on 1/23. 11:00a start.
carry on.
In-home inspection for what? Dust on doorframes? Number of litter boxes per cat? Direction of toilet paper?
2 per cat minimum, or else you’re jailed for 30 days by the feline scat pack.
I would think you need to own dogs so the government has something to shoot when they raid your home.
As per the toilet paper, the only correct direction is over the top, all other directions are wrong!
O ye misguided marines…everyone know that the only dress-right-dress TP directional placement is under..Army rules!!
=)
Everyone knows “over” is the proper direction for toilet paper, and anyone with “under” is a future criminal with violent intentions. No guns for them!
If they insist on under, you could switch it back when they leave. Never could understand the unders. We want you to reach ever FARTHER for your TP.
Oh. Sorry for dividing us. It’s a “free” country.
They want to see a “2011 Teamsters Convention” ashtray on the coffee table, or F.O.P. regalia in the den. If it’s in, you’re in.
Maybe these genius “legislators” should ban Hoppes and CLP, then the guns will rust and become unusable.
Oh, the Glocks will still work. Forget it.
Veggie oil/animal fat. Not the best but it would get the job done.
Sssshhhhhh! Don’t give the prohibitionists any more ideas…
But Hoppes Number Nine is my usual cologne.
Tyler Durden has some new products coming out…
I kind of wonder what would happen if these same types of statutes were applied for the right to vote? Or perhaps if used to regulate “decency” in modern media? The shotgun pattern method of introducing bills is truly amazing…
Yep. Crazies, the demented, and the developmentally challenged get to vote, and do, and so you already understand democracy and the gun control contingent. Those buses are full of simple folks have a proud sense of accomplishment if they can return to the bus and say, “Yuh, I really pulled that lever next to the big D!” All things considered, who could blame them.
Do they get to draw a map of all the cover and blind spots in your house too while they are inspecting? Or are you supposed to supply that too along with a blood, urine, and stool sample?
I’m going to introduce my counterproposal. No magazines past 350 rounds(sorry I gotta put my foot down here), no barrel lengths past 6 foot, no criminal safe zones that don’t offer milk & cookies to the perps, no ammo that you can’t stand up vertically inside a 16″ ship gun etc etc, see, I can be reasonable too, Randy
The ones regarding a mental health check/psych eval prior to purchase is something I could get behind.
Only if our vaunted rulers take the same exam to run for office.
perhaps but no more than once or twice a year if you buy more than one or two guns per year. that would be a waste of time and money.
until they call YOU crazy.
I think he is CRAZY for supporting this. The diagnosis of mental health issues is guesswork at best. Symptoms of common mental health problems can often be applicable to several different afflictions. I for one will not have my gun ownership dependent on the say so of guesswork.
Also, this sets them up to qualify you as crazy and take your guns. Any time they want to. Tell me you think the govt wouldnt do this. Then give me your email so I can send you a video of me laughing in your face.
Have you seen those exams? Playing twenty questions with the human mind is a fool’s errand. Besides, how many shrinks are there in this country, and how long would all these tests take? Is this Obama’s jobs program?
You’re kidding, right?
Yeah, that would work great wouldn’t it…..we already have mental health professionals who already believe that just wanting a gun makes you crazy. What if someone in your family has a history of depression, are you also now removed from owning a gun because of family history?
This will be made political — none of these quack docs will be fair in their evaluation. Here is a better one, are the doctors liable if they mis diagnose someone who then shoots up a school? If yes, then what doctor would volunter to do these exams?
All of these laws are over reactions and emotional to get us pissed off and to rally their base.
There is really only one question…..are you finally ready to do the work to fight these guys at the capital and in the courts. These must die in committee.
Email and web posts will not do sh!t….you must call, you must lobby and you must campaign for pro-gun rights politicians even if they are not in your district.
What we have seen is that all elections are national and all state level elections are really state wide.
For those of you in CT, please get involved in CCDL http://www.ccdl.us/
They have recieved donation from all over the US and CT will be ground zero in this fight.
NOBODY IS SAFE — NOT HUNTERS — NOT SPORTSMAN — NOBODY
It seems reasonable, right? Until you realize that you are giving an unaccountable group with a scientifically dubious background power to determine who gets rights once considered fundamental.
What’s to stop them from determining that the desire to own a gun, any gun, is a sign of abnormal psychology? I mean, perhaps it is a symptom of a violent personality? Or perhaps excessive paranoia?
Craziest people I’ve met have Psychology PhD’s. I bet their national association is salivating over getting some government-mandated gun owner evaluations work in this economy. $100 an hour. Paid by the gun owner. Whatever.
You think they’re only going to bill $100/hour? That’s cute.
“The ones regarding a mental health check/psych eval prior to purchase is something I could get behind.”
I’m going to disagree with you on this one because psychologists use the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) to classify mental disorders. Every single person who has ever lived could potentially fall into one of the “mental disorders” classified within this publication.
Let’s look at a few:
DSM IV code 300.9 – Unspecified mental disorder. I can see it now: Do you go to sleep at night and wake up in the morning? You may be suffering from a diurnal psychosis! If this applies to you, your right to purchase firearms has been denied indefinitely!
Adjustment disorders as per DSM IV:
309.9 Unspecified
309.24 With anxiety
309.0 With depressed mood
309.3 With disturbance of conduct
309.28 With mixed anxiety and depressed mood
309.4 With mixed disturbance of emotions and conduct
“An adjustment disorder occurs when an individual is unable to adjust to or cope with a particular stressor, like a major life event.”
Depressed after a death in your family and have sought counsel from a psychologist? No guns for you because you have an adjustment disorder!
OFWG’s will hate this one – DSM IV code 780.9 – Age-related cognitive decline. Maybe the Dems will say that the older you get the less guns you should be “allowed” to own?
My point is that since no scientific method is applied to the testing and diagnosis of mental disorders (i.e. depression cannot be identified through a scientific test with results that can be replicated) anyone can be diagnosed with a mental disorder. Since Dems have an agenda for gun control, you can bet that they will find a way to place as many people as possible into a mental disorder classification which would prevent them from owning firearms. I will never allow someone to tell me if I am mentally stable enough to legally own firearms.
You do realize that they’ll automatically require a certain percentage to be found unfit ever year, with that percentage increasing over time to where anyone who wants a gun is automatically crazy, right?
Coast-to-Coast the game is on boys, time to buck up and make your voices heard. Time to get organized for 2014 elections, time to contribute to SAF, GOA, NRA and other local groups, time to push back just as hard.
What is NOT being reported is that LOCAL Towns and Cities where not prohibated are also making their own laws, at least here in CT.
And to all your hunter friends, you are next because PETA is going to want in on the Ban party too from recent reports.
There is really NO EXCUSE for every gun owner and anyone who has in interest in preserving the Constitution for not joining the NRA.
Only United behind the NRA do we have any chance of even keeping some of our gun rights.
I knew it. I knew I wasn’t safe and that it was only a matter of time before my state got rocked. I thought Feinstein’s bill was bad but this is just plain insanity. This proves my nagging suspicion that NJ is the 21st century reincarnation of the USSR. Home inspections? FOAD is right. We all ready have the most asinine laws on the books; if any of this passes it will do nothing but cause an even more severe hemorrhaging of taxpayer money into useless programs.
NY and now NJ? Are the gungrabbers trying to clear out the east coast of gun owners?
or have them move to Pa
Shhh, don’t mention PA to the grabbers. They’ll get to us soon enough.
Heres to hoping ,who knows maybe they figure that since we “bitterly” cling to our guns that we are a lost cause.
have none of these idiots ever read a history book?
They’re FOLLOWING the history books!
Yeah… the questions is WHICH ones….
If you are in a gun hating progressive cesspool this is your advance warning. Get out while the getting is good.
I can’t believe this. We need to stop this from happening!! There is no way the government has a right to do this. Sandy Hook is unforgettable but the time to grief is over and we need to start being logical about things. No gun restriction will stop a next mass shooter. If we want to make a difference then lets help the people out there who are the next time bombs.
They explicitly DON’T have the right to do this because of The Bill of Rights.
Good luck with that one.
And the worst of the bunch: A-3687. No way to know who’s on the terrorist watch list, no oversight on who ends up on it, and no way to get off it if you do find out you’re on it. The ultimate end-around to a complete ban, if and when the feds want to go that far.
When you introduce 18 bills at one time, is that still considered incremental? Isn’t this a very good example of one thing leads to another until you have nothing left?
1. Introduce a bill (or 18) with EXTREME intentions.
2. Get a few bills to pass with at least SOME of the intentions.
3. Rinse and repeat ad nauseum, no matter how stupid the bills are, how ineffective they are, or how difficult they would be to actually implement.
Inch by inch, but they still eventually win at some point.
Personally, I would prefer they stop dicking around and just propose to repeal the 2nd Amendment. Would rather have that end-all-be-all fight now, while we still have a decent number of citizens who personally remember Stalin, Hitler, etc. Plus who knows what SCOTUS will look like in 20 years.
I know what SCOTUS will look like in four years and it’s criminal.
Maybe these states should secede from the Union if they disagree this much with the Constitution?
Second best option to deportation.
Just when I thought that New Jersey couldn’t get any worse…
NJ can always and will always get worse.
It is by far the worst state in the Union.
Food is good though.
The time to call you’re Reps IS OVER! its time to get physical…After all this is the intention MARTIAL LAW! they want it, well lets give it to them lock, stock and Barrel.
Easy now. Political action. I know they are coming at us hard right now after being on the run for decades, but it might well be a frenzied last stand on their parts. Except in CA. Super-majorities in both houses. May God have mercy on their souls.
I don’t know what to do…ugh. I live in PA now, but most of my friends and all of my family are in the New York / New Jersey area.
I was planning on moving back there in about 10 months. These bills make me seriously question that decision.
Move to Northeastern PA?
It’s pretty obvious whose side Chris Christie is on. Looks like he hates the Constitution just as much as the object of his affection, Obamalamadingdong.
And remember, he is a ‘front runner’ for the 2016 Republican nomination for the presidency…
Fat ba$tard will die of heart disease before 2016. Hearts aren’t made to pump blood to all that blubber.
Denver already has liberal >21 round mag laws. Colorado is at high risk according to this http://www.thegunmag.com/colorado-alert-2013-anti-gun-bills-at-the-state-capitol/
That’s “<21 round".
“All that is required for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing.”

OMG I just vomited all over my keyboard!
This is bad, very, very bad….
I thought we had it bad here in California!
You want your voice heard, get involved.
Gun Control=More Crime January 19th!
Come one people we need to get out there. Phones Fax and email work but this has gone to far!!!
New Jersey is to guns as India is to steak dinners.

If you’re rich and white, you can get anything you want as long as you’re willing to pay for it?
Sounds about right.
I need to move out of this state now
It’s a shame I call this (sorry) State my home. Some politicians are willing to take away one right by destroying other rights aswell. Some of these bills actually trample on the First & Fourth Amendments. A word on the willingness of people to take away any rights in this manner. The rights that are taken from any individual may lead to a loss of all OUR RIGHTS.
Unbelievable. Exercising your guaranteed rights under the 2nd Amendment is now considered probable cause under the 4th Amendment in NJ. Craptastic. They better keep that shit on that side of the Delaware.
The Nazi’s ( I hope that’s correct) disarmed their victims too.
“Those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it.”
― Edmund Burke
Who pays for the mental health check? The state or the person buying the gun?
If the person getting the gun pays doesn’t that kind of disenfranchise the poor like the voter ID laws?
NJ’s gun control strategy: Throw legislation at the wall and see what sticks.
The problem is that the asshats introducing these bills have no idea how they will work with existing laws. In home inspections will violate the IV Amendment against unreasonable searches. Mental health examinations and the records would have to be protected under the HIPAA privacy rules. Could the results of the mental health examinations be later used in custody hearings, job applications, civil proceedings, etc.? Seizures of weapons can be had by the government, but it would have to come with compensation. No state has the ability to even pay out $100 a gun.
There are more problems, but my blood pressure is up.
The gun grabbers aren’t interested in hearing your constitutional logic.
Go Gators, by the way. 🙂
What’s worse is how many of the big-government drones from that region have migrated to Northern Virginia in the past 15 years, making this part of the state almost as screwed up as Maryland (which itself exists primarily to serve as a New Jersey suburb). Virginia is tipping so far to the left, I’m going to have to shop for a new home state before I retire.
if you use the tobacco analogy, everyone who wants to smoke and isnt a helpless victim of his addiction, is mentally ill under some not otherwise specified d/o
so you can see wanting to own weapons would be a mental health d/o.
so if we have to get evaluated not many are going to pass.
and how long would a RELIABLE psych exam take? PD recruit is a few hours, but a more extensive one will be a few days.
and yes WE will have to pay for it!
Just some FYI: (Yes I know I’m grasping at straws)
http://hotair.com/archives/2013/01/09/video-secret-gun-rights-provision-in-obamacare/
Jersey cops hand out those “I’m a Friend of a Cop” cards, just like NYC. Cop unions are very strong in NJ and they have little taste for competition. I think there’s a statutory fine for any home-owner shooting an armed robber “in such circumstance as waiting five or less minutes could reasonably have provided a Sworn Officer with first rights to the shoot.” NJ has a high gun-crime rate and lots of cops. It’s a natural duopoly and neither group wants non-professionals messing with it. Kind of a little Chicago in parts. Or little NYC.
What kind of idiot would apply for the home inspector job?
Folks, I hate to be a broken record on this, but Americans have a 400 year history of moving away when things got too crowded, oppressive, or better opportunities arose in greener pastures. Do like your ancestors and flee these people’s republics ASAP for states where people still believe in freedom.
“I need more elbow room.” Daniel Boone
The wood in that picture is giving me ‘furniture’.
A sad loss.
This is *EXACTLY* why I left NJ and their fascist gun control, nanny state laws. I still have to go back to visit family sometimes, but I wish the whole cesspool of a state would break off and fall into the ocean. See you in hell NJ!!!
Unless we start stepping in and saying no then go further as to wipe the rest of these unconstitutional laws off the book the people are doomed
