Our man Foghorn won’t be going to SHOT Show this year. The blogger has a real job and a real wife, neither of which was thrilled at the prospect of Leghorn unchained. It’s just as well, really, as the industry gathering always rattles the cage containing Nick’s pet peeve. Specifically . . .
the debut of “new” guns that aren’t new. Just modified versions of existing models. Such as the SIG SAUER P938 STAND. [Click here to read Jeremy’s review of the vanilla version.]
As the press release below points out, SIG’s Steven King-inspired mouse gun (JK) is all for a good cause: “a portion of the proceeds from the sales to H.A.V.A. (Honored American Veterans Afield), which works with wounded veterans and active-duty military, and C.O.P.S. (Concerns of Police Survivors), which helps support the families of fallen law enforcement officers.”
What portion? Not specified. But hey, if even a fraction of the sales of all slightly modded “new” guns donated a fraction of the profit generated to a good cause, Nick would totally be on board. Right Nick?
Newington, N.H. –-(Ammoland.com)- SIG SAUER, Inc. introduces a special edition of its venerable P938 platform designed to honor America and our flag, as well as show support for our nation’s veterans and first responders who protect and defend our freedoms every day.
Made with pride in Newington, NH, the 9mm P938 STAND has a slide engraved in the likeness of the American flag with the word “STAND” boldly displayed on the ejection port side of the gun. It also has custom black grips featuring a medallion embossed with a flag in flight. SIG SAUER teamed up with United Sporting Companies to offer this unique firearm and to donate a portion of the proceeds from the sales to H.A.V.A. (Honored American Veterans Afield), which works with wounded veterans and active-duty military, and C.O.P.S. (Concerns of Police Survivors), which helps support the families of fallen law enforcement officers.
“When United Sporting Companies approached us with the STAND concept, we immediately thought it was an outstanding idea to show support for our country and our flag, and all they stand for,” said Tom Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, Commercial Sales, SIG SAUER. “The concept of supporting veterans and first responders made the idea even more compelling. It is important to us at SIG SAUER to find ways to work with service organizations like H.A.V.A. and C.O.P.S. in order to support our injured veterans and the families of fallen law enforcement officers. That commitment is at the very core of SIG SAUER’s DNA.”
“We felt that the STAND idea was a great idea to honor our country and those who serve America,” said Brad Johnson, CEO, United Sporting Companies. “Our veterans and first responders are the finest examples of what we as a country have to offer. Their selflessness and commitment to put the needs of others above their own deserves our admiration and eternal gratitude, and we should all do what we can to support those who have given so much.”
You can also look for variants of the STAND product in a SIG SAUER P238 and 1911 in the near future.

The stand is a old movie and a really old book so I’m not sure why they would reference it with this gun but hey whatever.
😒You do know what the (j.k) after that line stands for don’t you?
H.A.V.A. nice day!
🤠
Who cares?
I never looked at Molly Ringwald the same way again, that’s for sure! 😉
“Stand” starts REM running in my head and by extension a little Chris Elliot too.
The movie sucked, but the book was excellent. Long read, but worth it, at least that’s what I recall from ~30 years ago…..
I first read it on a fishing trip at a remote lake cabin. Listening to Dark Side of the Moon and reading The Stand in the middle of nowhere…no need for drugs for me (despite the screen name).
Aside from all the permutations and variations of the basic AR-15/M16 platforms, the thing that really pisses me off the most about the SHOT Show is “vaporware.” Fachrisake, if it ain’t ready for primetime/full production, don’t bring it to the Show!
I am just not drawn to blinged out patriotic guns, no cerakote red white blue or text of the second amendment on them. Nor gold guns, or engravings with Elvis, Chuck Norris, Chicago typewriter gangsters… Black, blued, Stainless, maybe some nice wood… Factory OD is cool, maybe Gray or FDE if I am feeling wild! And raspberry is right out! Though a hi point “all about the Benjamins?” Somehow that works…
Ok, I have a question about another aspect of the world of firearms business. All these mailings I get from the NRA for different drawings. Are they for real? Right now I have on my desk promotional materials for a drawing being used to promote the NRA-ILA. First prize is a choice of 10 guns from a long list of offered firearms. Second is 8, third 6, fourth 5, fifth 4, sixth 2, and seventh 1. My question; Does anybody know anybody who ever won any of these NRA drawings or is like the Reader’s Clearing House scam? Is it for real?
I was just Google searching this… Couldn’t find anyone who said they won it online, but I suppose if you did, would you post that on the internet? And then someone said they did, how do you know they are being truthful?
Seems most luck was entering Friends of NRA Raffles at local banquets.
For the internet’s sake though… Yes I won the Grand prize, actually twice, ’98 and ’05. But then lost all the guns in repeat boating accidents. So sad. Don’t believe me?
Needs to be in .45ACP if it’s got an American flag on it.

The fact that the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo takes place the same week as the SHOT show has *nothing* to do with that???

*snicker*
(Note – the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo has actual ‘booth babes’ that some of them are ‘rentable by-the-hour’, at over $1,000 an hour…)
As long as you film it, it’s pornography not prostitution!
Leghorn is married now? When did that happen? If it was ever mentioned on TTAG, I must’ve missed it… With that and the Big Job, it’s no wonder he doesn’t post much anymore.
Oh, and congratulations, Nick. 🙂
Don’t fruit your beer, don’t sauce your steak, don’t flag your gun. Some things just don’t go together.
Are…are you flagging me with that gun?
Flag is going the wrong way.
The flag always advances!

Am I the only one who thinks this is maybe about the NFL Protests?
Theme guns aren’t my thing, but if the “Stand” part triggers the people supporting the national anthem protests, I’m glad SIG made it. Some shrill lefty in the media is bound to call this gun racist, or extra racist, or something,
a very bad idea for batf(arbe) officers to be waving these around while screaming “drop! get on the ground now.”

yeah, i know… ad nauseum. forgive me.
Stupid, tone deaf political nonsense. Sig is stupid.
