The P320 has been kept under wraps for a long time, but I finally got my hands on SIG/Sauer’s new striker-fired pistol today. We’ll never know for sure until we get to shoot one, but I’m thinking SIG/Sauer has a winner on their hands here. Why? . . .
It keeps the three-caliber modularity and excellent grip ergonomics of the P250, but it replaces the unloved DAO fire control system with a modern striker-fired action.
Here’s the rear view. It looks just like a P250, but where’s the hammer? Gone. The striker mechanism has a smooth (yes, smooth) and short trigger pull, with a very short and very tactile reset point. For most shooters this will translate into quicker split times and greatly improved practical accuracy.
SIG’s cleverness doesn’t end here, however. P320 slide assemblies and fire control groups are completely new but the grip frames, barrels, magazines and accessories are all interchangeable from the P250.
The 320 has an MSRP of $719, with actual street prices to be predictably lower. I desperately want to test one of these, which will be really simple since I’ve already got a half-dozen magazines and a spare grip frame for it.
Everyone’s mentioned Hickok and Colion already and Iraqveteran8888’s great also.
Brass Fetcher is worth mentioning. Runs all sorts of high speed camera/ballistic gel tests and just cuts through the “Self-Defense Cartridge of the Month” hype.
Another good one is LifeSizePotato. He’s a collector of rare and oddball import firearms (mostly handguns), I’d never heard of a Dardick, Mateba, or Korth before I saw his channel. His reviews are extremely informative and interesting, if a little dry (not Nutnfancy dry, thank god).
C2builder used to be one of the best channels for NFA videos (especially vintage machine gun action) but he hasn’t been active for almost a year now. Disappointing.
Wow. This person wants to see peaceful taxpayers, neighbors who have done nothing to harm the person or property of others, disarmed and thrown in prison. Seems to have quite a hard-on for it, in fact.
Some people we can call political opponents. With these we can disagree but still share a beer and a few laughs at a BBQ. The person who wrote that letter is more than a political opponent. The letter writer is an enemy.
Good thing the cops got to him before some gorilla did, or Elvis.
The same way not using the engine block of a vehicle for cover is a bad idea, ie; taking cover on the opposite side of the cab of a vehicle
I’ve got a Sig 1911 story that may or may not be of interest. I
bought a Sig 1911 Ultra Compact, my first 1911. So far, I’ve had only
one FTF and that was due to the clip not being fully seated in the gun. After that, I’ve had no problems with it functioning. It wasn’t until I went to clean it that a major problem revealed itself.
Compared to my oldSig P220, the gun is a nightmare to dis/re-assemble. It came apart with no problems, but reassembling it was all but impossible. The first problem was, the barrel would not go back into the slide bushing. Both the bushing and the barrel edges are sharp 90 deg corners and the 30 deg angle the barrel must enter the bush hole at makes for an iffy proposition. My weak recently injured hand didn’t help. Neither did the fact the manual that comes with Ultra Compact is not the manual for that gun and the barrel bush is totally different for the UC model, the bush being the slide, itself. But, the worst was yet to come. The plunger lever, a piece of stamped steel, was at least .015 inch higher than the frame rails. This meant when I put the slide back on the frame, the plunger lever stuck up 1/64 inch too high and the back end of the slide would not clear it. I tried to force it, thinking the lever would depress, as it has a slight ramp to it. Wrong. It only put a nick in the soft stamped steel of the plunger lever and making it impossible to get the slide back on. This is unacceptable on a thousand dollar gun, so I sent it back to the factory.
The conversations I had with at least three Sig support people, before shipping it back, was telling. They all knew about this problem. “Oh, yeah, that problem” was the standard response. I got suggestions to push the lever down with a screw driver or it’s not a problem once it wears down. But, none of these worked, as the nick in the lever had effectively rendered the gun impossible to re-assemble. I shipped it back in pieces.
It was almost a month before I got the gun back. I was told they were sending me a new gun because the slide rails were damaged, which was nonsense. There was no mention of the plunger lever. I called them at about week three and was told they were awaiting sights. When I finally got the gun back, I immediately disassembled it. The plunger lever was lower than frame rails, as it should have been in the first place.
I’ve since taken it to the range and had no further problems. I’ve
only put about 100 rnds through it and have only shot the cheapest
ball I can find. The only thing I dislike about the gun is the fatter
grips, which are great for gripping this handfull of bark, but makes
it all but impossible for me to reach the slide release without
shifting my grip, and I have pretty big hands. I’m also not real
happy with the documentation. Not only is the manual not the right
one for my gun, but it’s terrible. The exploded parts diagram looks
like it was drawn by someone off the short bus and Sig’s online
assembly video is a Youtube video shot by some private citizen. Like, we would have done it ourself, but someone has already done a half arsed video, so here’s the link. Unbelievable!
Frankly, I wish I still had my old P220.
Looks cool. Do want.
They’re introducing it in the same way Ruger brought in the LCP and then the LC9, but it’s not a pocket pistol (at least for my pockets). So no, it’s a nice, inexpensive piece but it won’t replace my LCP. It will sell well and is certainly the lead card for a 9mm version. Then the question will be how much I love my Kahrs.
It slipped easily into my pocket. And I’m only 5’7″.
H&K: Because you suck… and we hate you.
Still.
Source?
Bet this makes for a fun movie prop somewhere.
Ok… I’ll admit. This looks cool. I wonder if there is a way to make a bluetooth version for Google Glass? Combine it with a gun camera HUD and you’ve got yourself a rather effective tactical advantage. (In theory)
Ah, now I see the difference now. “This spring, law-abiding residents of Illinois will be able to walk the streets with a loaded gun” rather than residents of Illinois who are thugs, bangers and criminals currently walk the streets with a loaded gun. Murder stats show pretty clearly that a lot of people have been carrying guns for a long time in Illinois, just not the right people.
I live in IL and it is sweet pleasure watching Chicago writhe in pain over this.
This piece is over priced (yes i can afford it i have 2 custom wilson ar’s billet) i own a lot of HK stuff but The wait for the MR556 was so long i dropped my order for one. when i checked one out 3 years later i didn’t feel like i was missing anything. What i can figure out is why does it take so long for them to get anything to market and into the local gun shop . Why can’t we get a competitive priced rifle from HK. It is on my wish list but won’t go over 2k for one I would rather spend a little more on a christnsen arms reaper or a noveske rifle. When i heard they we having money issue the first thing i though was maybe if you were to make your weapons available at a competitive price you issues would be over I am afraid to see how much their new rifle will be this is just a rehash of an old one
Arg. I think I want one. Or two. As an introductory center fire pistol for my twin 2yo daughters. It will be well broken-in for them 😉
No.
In fact, Hell no.
My integrity is not for sale, for one thing, and for another I definitely wouldn’t give it up for some Boer Hollyweird hypocrite who cannot see the fact that it was indeed a gun that saved her scrawny little hide to start with — and it is in fact more men with guns that continue to protect her sorry ass. She probably pays them all of jack shit, too.
I wouldn’t sell myself short for a weak-willed and willfully ignorant “strong” woman like her that purposefully debases herself with such blatant intellectual stupidity and dishonesty.
Sean Penn is a fucking idiot all ’round to begin with, and just as big of a loser hypocrite as she is. Two conceited morons being a perfect fit for each other? No surprise here.
So, is the bad guy supposed to be sprayed down before
or after getting shot?
Did Sig ever get around to the modular conversion kits for the P250? I thought they ended up being vapor-ware, a nice idea that never materialized.
F.ing Liberal PIECE OF GARBAGE,’I WANT TO ENACT MY PERSONAL POLICY CAUSE I DON’T BELIEVE IN THE 2ND AMENDMENT THAT THE BIG ,BAD ,COURTS HAVE STRAIGHT JACKETED US WITH[I.E. THE LAW] AND I NEED MORE TIME TO FIGUER OUT HOW I CAN SCREW THE LAW,THE TAX PAYERS, THE GUN OWNERS SO I CAN MAKE THE GANG BANGERS SAFE FROM RETRIBUTION OF CITIZENS WHO MIGHT PROTECT THEMSELVES’ .IN SIX MONTHES OF DENYING LAW ABIDING CITIZENS THEIR RIGHTS ,I SHOULD BE ABLE TO ASK FOR ANOTHER SIX MONTHS TO KEEP SCREWING PEOPLE OUT OF THEIR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS. AND I’LL BE PROTECTING OUR CITIZENS FROM LAW ABIDING CITIZENS SO THEY CAN CONTINUE TO GET SHOT AND MURDERED BY GANGBANGERS.’
This is not a new concept, IIRC late 80’s or so a company made a analog type device, the numbers looked more like the mileage indicator on an old car. They also tried to market it to competition shooters and Police, lost somewhere in obscurity just like I suspect this device will be.
They should put in a waiting period and licensing scheme on new paper editorial comments.
The government can tell them who is qualified to print stories and who is. Hey it can even forbid people from printing stories if they ever screw up and make an error or knowingly print something less than factual using their free speech.
I mean hell why stop with trampling the 2nd amendment. Let’s take down the 1st too since it seems all to many members of the media fail to grasp that limitations on one set of rights can easily apply to another set of rights.
