Eighty eight percent. Of all inmates who were arrested on gun charges in New York City this year, 88 percent of the 3,793 who were arrested were released due to 1) NYC’s new bail reform law (which eliminated bail for many crimes) and/or 2) the city’s COVID-related jail release policy.

Meanwhile, shootings in The Big Apple are up a whopping 96 percent. It’s all a mystery.

From the New York Post:

“We have made staggering numbers of gun arrests, taking guns off the streets from felons … but when you look, three days later, four days later, those individuals are back on the street committing more gun violence,” NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea said Tuesday [December 8th], while announcing shootings have climbed to 1,433 and are on track to reach a 14-year high by the end of 2020. By Thursday, the NYPD had logged an additional 18 shootings, bringing the total to 1,451, the department said.

That’s 1,451 shooting incidents, leaving 1,756 dead or wounded New Yorkers. But does this 96-percent surge in shootings truly have a direct connection to “bail reform” and releasing inmates willy nilly due to the ‘rona?

The New York Post dives deeper:

Among suspects in this year’s shootings, 40 percent have been caught with a gun previously, the NYPD said.

Of the 3,793 arrested in the first 11 months of the year on gun charges, 247 of them were accused of new crimes within just 60 days of their initial gun arrest, the NYPD said.

Only 32 of those 247 are currently in jail.

In addition to the 247, another 24 people arrested for gun crimes previously were named as people of interest in a second crime within 60 days of their first gun arrest.

In other words, yes. Yes there is a societal cost to immediately releasing dangerous criminals back onto the streets. Heck, if the consequence for speeding were nothing more than a stern talking to by the nice officer and a 10-minute inconvenience, I suspect we’d stop caring what number is on those black and white signs by the side of the road.

Meanwhile, the same folks who push for “bail reform” and policies that eliminate consequences for criminal behavior are simultaneously pushing for even stricter gun laws. While the law-abiding population suffers the consequences of these laws, criminals are exempted from them.

One might even begin to question the motives of a person who leverages increasing crime to sell increasing gun control, all the while crafting policy that…increases crime.

  1. Did they release any that crossed the state line with a legal firearm? Or did they only release the criminal thugs (i.e. voting demotators)?

    • All I can say is that I wish you could see the shocked 😯 look on my face to this story, but I don’t want to risk arrest by the FBI for removing the mask 😷 from my face…I believe that face mask removal is a no bond hold…

  2. What’s worse is that law abiding citizens cant obtain a handgun to defend themselves from the predators.

    • Technically speaking yes. But if they won’t be arrested, held, or prosecuted, the incentive for obeying that law seems to be disappearing.

  3. “One might even begin to question the motives of a person who leverages increasing crime to sell increasing gun control, all the while crafting policy that…increases crime.”

How do people not notice this? I suppose a big part of it is the constant narrative being pushed by media and tech. Also notice how they have no problem ruining someone’s life with firearms related charges when it’s politically convenient.

  4. If NY cannot figure this out then they deserve what they are getting. Most crime is committed by a small number of repeat offenders. Jail or prison is a way to keep the public safe from these people who will not or can not function in society. Letting them out is dumb and a crime against the public but elected leaders are wanting this mayhem to allow more laws against those who follow them.

    • Don’t you know why liberal democrats want to release violent criminals into society? They know that this is a recipe for disaster. They want this because it will aid them in passing new laws that take away more and more of our freedoms. Just as the Reichstag Fire gave Hitler the power of life and death over the German People, the criminal mayhem the liberal democrats are creating will give them the power they seek.

      • Are you sure that liberals want those things to happen? Well then they are not liberals. After all all our founding documents are liberal; indeed we are a liberal Country!

    • A while ago I was talking to a local cop about crime in our town. He mentioned that everything was really quiet because a month or two before they had done a big sweep for probation offenders and those with warrants, and put a few dozen repeat offenders in jail. Funny how that works.

  5. Criminals committed more crimes after being released from custody with no consequences. I’m shocked! Shocked, I tell you! 😲

  6. “… those individuals are back on the street committing more gun violence.”

“Gun violence?” Ahh…. do you mean “crime?” Call it what it is

  7. Now that’s what I call “gun control”! Gotta make room for all those evil 2A people and their 80% lowers!!!

  8. “While the law-abiding population suffers the consequences of these laws, criminals are exempted from them.”

    Is this statement substantively correct?

We have data that suggests that victims of gun crimes are substantially – 75% to 90% – criminals as well. They have records. We don’t have a sense of whether the records are for pot possession or Fentanyl dealing. But, they aren’t entirely “law-abiding”.

Perhaps the gun-controllers regard these victims of gunshot homicide as expendable cannon fodder in the noble goal of racking up higher and higher statistics.

The remainder – 25% – 10% – are the law-abiding. These too are also deemed expendable cannon fodder; they are merely of a different class (i.e., law-abiding).

Or, perhaps the social justice warriors don’t distinguish between classes of cannon fodder. I.e., my hypothesis is mistaken.

  9. ‘Heck, if the consequence for speeding were nothing more than a stern talking to by the nice officer and a 10-minute inconvenience, I suspect we’d stop caring what number is on those black and white signs by the side of the road.’

Very true. My state doesn’t have reciprocity with other states for driving offenses, other than DUI. An out-of-state ticket doesn’t show on my record, doesn’t affect my insurance, and doesn’t take points off my license. When I do road trips, I can ignore those black and white signs for the most part (25+ over the limit can be considered reckless in some jurisdictions and result in more than a ticket). I budget for written reminders of the speed limit when planning a trip. If I’m under budget and out-of-state, my foot or wrist gets heavy.

  10. Murderous thugs get to walk — as long as it’s not to church.

NYC has gone completely insane. I can’t wait until it all burns down.

  11. There are a multitude of things that need to be done that actually WILL fix this situation.

The single biggest is STOP voting Democrat!

The problem is people do not believe that or even as much see the connection.

    • And don’t worry about your vote counting. America has a very high level of cybersecurity. Trust me.

      • Signature verification in GA announced over a month after the election, and after votes were certified. It’s only for a small statistical sample and will take two weeks. Oh, and no one gets to watch them do it.

“This is his vantage point. He cannot see anything and they are being kept corralled behind these barriers.

How is this any different than before?”

  12. Good job! Good job! Bravo…you Imbeciles. When the wealthy and businesses are finished fleeing to the burbs, surrounding states, or completely away out of fear of growing danger, the NYC Mayor’s office can pat themselves on the back for accomplishing the rotting of the Big Apple.

  13. New York releasing gun using felons is stupidity and ignorance on steroids and innocent citizens WILL suffer.

  14. New World Order, guns first.
A chance to show the world America has the best subjects on the planet, fcku North Korea.
    U.S A., U.S.A. ,U.S.A.

  15. This must be the leaflets falling notifying the residents an invasion is imminent.
Get out now before it’s walled off from the rest of the state.

  16. Anybody with means to leave and ability to work elsewhere is leaving. Two friends I have are hosting their adult kids from NYC still because they don’t want to go back.
The town will be like I Am Legend.

  17. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is either a complete idiot incapable of seeing or understanding the connection between the release of criminals and the the rise in gun related crimes or, he he is complicit in a plan to to push for gun control using the rise in crime as an excuse. I do not trust any of the Democratic Politicians

  18. My favorite local stinkhole city has skipped all the trial, incarceration and release and just refuses to even prosecute gun felonies unless it’s a “slam dunk” conviction. And the voters of that fair city keep voting democrat and just re-elected the mayor. You know what the definition of insanity is right?

  19. Departed my old home town NYC in 1967, having testified at a city council dog and pony show, the purpose of which was to enact pocket picking, anti gun legislation, which was enacted. Never felt the slightest need or desire to look back. In any case, the above article surprises me not at all.

  20. The patriots should take back the streets! Poor people of new york are subjected to this scum of government!

  21. I really don’t understand democrats. They think guns are so scary and so awful, get cannot bring themselves to punish someone who has committed a crime with one. And an unlicensed gun at that! Why are they so afraid of personal responsibility?

    • It’s really only certain demographics they wish to release. A forty year old white guy will rot in jail.

  22. I’m reminded of that iconic scene from the original Ghostbusters.

Well, everything was going fine until our containment grid was shut off by D**KLESS here.

    Is that true?

YES. The man has no d**k.

    Well that’s what I heard!
(At this particular moment, the camera is on the mayor, but you can hear Bill Murray exclaiming this last line in the background.)

  23. I can’t imagine almost everything we concern ourselves with in life
makes a difference. On a regular basis invested in taking
into consideration the different things that we encounter every single and
every day can be undoubtedly necessary, as no other
person is going to face life for any of us. I feel that
people ought to be more sane. Science is superb, yet
so much of everything we might know about is indeed abstract.
Having a cup of tea is a zen process that takes one back
to the present few moments. We have to be more in the here and today, without being
stressed by our lifestyle and the crises we encounter every day. http://D-Vers.com/
