The horrific story coming out of Houston – a man named Ron Lee Haskell shot dead five children and one adult – is bad enough. The response of Gawker commentators is worse (but not unusual or unexpected). JE writes: “After climbing onto the soapbox of ‘acceptance’ they demonize people who hold different values…. for being close minded. They go on to call the firearms owning public a variety of ugly generalizations. And they advocate murder. Why are these people salivating at the thought of the government rounding up their enemies? Are they that shortsighted, or just bloodthirsty?” To which the only possible answer is yes. My question: how can Gawker leave these comments up – unless they approve?
I like how the last commenters picture is a peace symbol. These people are so out of touch with reality it hurts.
An ex Army Colonel once told me, “That’s not a peace symbol , it’s the track of the American chicken”
Crow’s foot. Symbol of a broken cross upside down enclosed in a circle, long a basic tenant of black magic and witchcraft.
So it rents, then?
Your “Crow’s Foot” was designed in ’58 as the logo for the British nuclear disarmament movement, and was based upon the Naval semaphore symbols for N and D; any idea why? It has since been used a tidge more widely.
“Long associated,” my pale, princely patoot.
BTW, Witchcraft has nought to do with black magic, but bein’ all “Us vs Them” reactionary against anyone having the temerity to not be Abrahamic, you’d not know that.
It isn’t just we gun owners who face unreasoned hatred and whose liberties get trampled, bro.
Yawn. you are greatly mistaken, and you protest too much.
Most symbols used in Wicca, Satanism, what have you are rather novel or novel uses. People read too much into these thing. An upside cross? Before the 20th century that essentially represented St. Peter, who was crucified upside down, and the popes who claim to be his successor
The pentagram? Used in many religions. In the West, again associated with Christ and His five wounds. Later extended to other Christian mysteries. With the rise in superstitious occult practices during the renaissance (16th through 18th century) it became a magical symbol, linked to the 5 elements identified by neoplatonism. Mormons use it too.
The crow’s foot accusation comes from the John Birch society. It was not a medieval occult symbol afaik (if so what century, what region…the medieval ages span nearly a millennium and ranged from the Goth kingdoms, to the Carolingian Renaissance, the age of Hildebrand, the high middle ages which invented universities and corporation and greatly developed law, to the black death and Great Western Schism….in other words drastic societal and cultural changes that are in many ways greater than we have experience in 400 years.
“Your “Crow’s Foot” was designed in ’58 as the logo for the British nuclear disarmament movement, and was based upon the Naval semaphore symbols for N and D; any idea why?”
Er,… Negligent Discharge?
I had thought of that, with a chuckle; pity JK isn’t initialed ND; that’d be too perfect.
JKnTX: Whatever. The regard in which I hold your notions re history and religion falls somewhere between that in which the average bricklayer holds Manson’s twitter feed and Britney Spears’ latest faux pas.
As out of touch as Sixties hippies’ children who stole Mercedes Benz hood ornaments thinking they were `peace’ symbols. Or maybe they were practicing class warfare.
I’m sure it’s actually a witty remark on the duality of man
I think they are actively supporting the NSA with their comments.
Leftists. Statists. Marxists. Godvernmentalists. What else do you need to know? These same type of people have been responsible for the deaths of millions upon millions upon millions of people throughout the 20th Century. There is nothing new under the sun.
Hey, watch your use of “Marxists” as an insult. Marx was a great man and philospher, and his teachings have been misconstrued and demonized because of the Red Scare. His teachings are actually quite fair and good, and have nothing to do with what you think they do. Maybe you could try actually reading his work?
Remember, Marx himself said “If that is Marxism, then I am not a Marxist”
-Vu
Sounds like someone took a class…and then tells others “to read” what his professor told him Marx said. Maybe “read it” yourself?
@Matt, spoken like a true Marxist.
Marx’s teachings were naive wishful thinking. All of the horrible things that are ‘wrongfully’ blamed on Marxism are, in fact, the real world results of his philosophy. Even if he was a good man (something I disagree with), he still propagated the falsehood that the wealth of one caused the poverty of another.
The mistake people make with Marx is to include in the definition of Marxism the results promised, instead of separating the structure of such a system and its promises.
There was a debate held between Von Mises and various supporters of socialism wherein articles were exchanged back and forth. Von Mises point was that Marx’s proposed system provided no mechanism to gauge the relative value of various things put to different purposes in an economy. In a market system these are prices and they are how scarcity is dealt with.
The socialists who argued against Von Mises came up with various schemes by which a price structure could be imitated. However they all seemed to ignore that in order to deal with scarcity, Marx proposed that instead of assigning values to resources, the desires of the economic actors should instead have limits imposed upon them by a benign economic authority until such time that the members of society somehow evolved past personal want. At that point government could be dissolved and the society could move into full blown communism (we use the word ‘communism’ to refer to economies that are still “socialist” under this scheme, and also china which is…a sort of social-mercantilist-ish system?).
In short: Marxism does in fact require totalitarianism in the hopes of changing the very basic elements of human nature, and the system he proposed isn’t really all that good.
Hegel and Kant called, they said GTFO.
Marx wasn’t a philosopher, he was an aristocratic dilettante who spent his idle time pontificating on how he thought the proles ought to live. He was also a freeloader who lived off his friend, Friedrich Engels, who supported them both with his career as …ready for this? A rich London banker. Engels also ghostwrote large portions of Kapital. Look it up. So when we talk about “limousine liberals”, realize that that’s the only kind there’s ever been.
There’s no reason to have any respect for Karl Marx.
I love it when these threads go off the rails and into the weeds. They’re often more interesting than the original article.
“There’s no reason to have any respect for Karl Marx.”
Yeah, he really was the least funny Marx brother.
@JJ
Indeed. By the way, what do you call an Argentinian communist?
A Gaucho Marxist.
I’ll add that I hate the fact that the socialist left has co-opted the word “liberal” so thoroughly that there’s no use trying to restore its true meaning at this point. I believe in individual freedom, voluntary community, and personal responsibility. I am a liberal. Marx and his ideological descendents are …something else.
And a long line of murderous dictators have hidden behind Marx for more than a century.
I’m no Marxist, and I’m not even a progressive, but you have to give Marx credit where credit is due:
“To be able forcefully and threateningly to oppose this party, whose betrayal of the workers will begin with the very first hour of victory, the workers must be armed and organized. The whole proletariat must be armed at once with muskets, rifles, cannon and ammunition, and the revival of the old-style citizens’ militia, directed against the workers, must be opposed. Where the formation of this militia cannot be prevented, the workers must try to organize themselves independently as a proletarian guard, with elected leaders and with their own elected general staff; they must try to place themselves not under the orders of the state authority but of the revolutionary local councils set up by the workers. Where the workers are employed by the state, they must arm and organize themselves into special corps with elected leaders, or as a part of the proletarian guard. *Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempt to disarm the workers must be frustrated, by force if necessary.* The destruction of the bourgeois democrats’ influence over the workers, and the enforcement of conditions which will compromise the rule of bourgeois democracy, which is for the moment inevitable, and make it as difficult as possible – these are the main points which the proletariat and therefore the League must keep in mind during and after the approaching uprising.”

It’s called ends justify the means. I doubt Marx would have approved the use or ownership of Firearms after the supposed Communist world order when governments would magically disappear and everyone was supposed to live in perpetual economic harmony.
Sounds like comments made by Soviet news propaganda commentators. Of course we have prominent politicians who label gun owners as terrorists, so why not have ethnic cleansing of the NRA? Let’s have a Pol Pot type regime and have the Ministry of Truth call it liberty.
So these folks, disgusted by violence, wish to incite violence to people they disagree with…I believe there is a word for this…oh yea, HYPOCRITES!!!
In the 1930s, they were called fascists.
The majority were Red Communist.
What I still don’t get is, who is going to be hanging these people off of lampposts? The hangERs don’t have guns, except for their mercenary gendarmes, while the prospective hangEEs are armed to the teeth and largely well-trained (or at least well-practiced vs. paper targets). Who’s actually going to go kick down doors, drag gun owners out, and string them up? The Flying Spaghetti Monster?
Mercs work well only until enough folks get pissed off, then they’re heavily outnumbered and outgunned, and we know where their families live.
I am a little worried about the flying spaghetti monster now. We haven’t covered that in any of the classes I’ve taken, an I fear that might have been a major tactical oversight,
And comments like these might serve as justification for open carry: “I HAVE to keep my rifle with me. People on Gawker are threatening to hang me from a lamp post.”
Well, since the Insane Clown Posse Juggalos are no longer officially deemed a terrorist group, I guess there’s hope for us.
Spring isn’t Houston, it is a small town to the North on the fringe, just off I-45 North.
Recall just a few years ago when the USAF was caught buying some high tech computer software designed to create believable internet “personalities” who were totally fictious?
A lot of people wondered why and what they were going to use it for. Now you know.
Spring isn’t really a town, not in the sense that it’s a municipality in its own right. There’s no mayor, city council, police force, anything. It’s not a legal entity in that sense. There is a tiny (about a 10 blocks) remnant of what Spring used to be in the 1800s, which is now a little historical district of some small shops in old buildings. But there’s no town in any real distinct sense. Beyond That tiny historical sector, “Spring” is just an area. It’s kind of like saying “New England” or “the Bay area.”
And yes, the Spring area, for all practical purposes, is Houston. It isn’t within the city limits proper, true, but it is contiguous and, legally, it’s part of Houston’s extraterritorial jurisdiction. Houston P.D. does have some stations in the area, as well.
If it isn’t within the city limits of Houston, then it doens’t belong to Houston. correct?
I will think you find that is.
“@JK, noooo, they do exist JK. How do you think Obama came to power”?
You are mistaken. The intel boys and the bankers.
@JK, sorry JK, the intel boys and the bankers aren’t the idiots in the voting booths pulling the lever.
“Belong?” Houston doesn’t own everything even within its city limits. There’s such a thing as private property. Look it up. Belonging isn’t even a relevant concept here.
Soooo…….the issue is, what kind of legal relationship does Houston have with the unincorporated area popularly described as Spring. I’ve already told you it’s in the extraterritorial jurisdiction and I provided an example of city services which Houston provides. Your claim of Spring being “not Houston” and backing that up solely with the fact that that it isn’t within the city limits is a fallacious argument because it’s based on the faulty premise of a false dichotomy. There exists a third state of existence which is other than “not Houston” and other than “Houston”, but which is a helluva lot closer to “Houston” than not. Let’s call it Houstonesque. Whatever gets you through the night.
That’s why I said for all practical purposes, it’s Houston. Meanwhile, you’re running around arguing absolutes, while ignoring the fact that the legal staus of the area is more complex than simply yes/no. All of which was born of a mundane and uninsightful distinction, anyway, you made about Spring’s status relative to Houston.
Beyond that, you failed even to acknowledge your outright error that Spring is not its own municipality. Good grief. Get over yourself. As always when I’ve gotten sucked into an exchange which has become ludicrous for someone’s silly pride having been dinged, this is my exit. You’re free to have the last assinine word.
I think you already cornered the market on asinine…
El Mac, who do you think supplies and maintains the equipment that tallies and reports the votes?
@Jus Bill, oh clearly the bankers and the intel guys do. Or maybe JK does??
The only cops I have ever seen in the area are Harris County or DPS. I have lived here over 50 years now. HPD has no jurisdiction as the area has never been annexed lawfully.
I used to live in Spring in the late 70’s and early 80’s. It is an incorporated town, and much larger than the small historic district you describe. I lived off Treashwig Rd. near Carter’s Country. That was a part of Spring. If Spring were not incorporated it would have long since been gobbled up by Houston like Aldine and many other unincorporated towns were.
Brain dead, brain washed leftist anal openings. I would love to have one of those “commenters” explain to me just exactly what the NRA has to do with a psychopaths rampage. I am a second generation Life member of the NRA, and have never seen anything published by them that advocates violence anywhere, anytime against anyone. This is a direct result of the never ending anti NRA propaganda from the hard core anti rights left. While I am a member, I do not always agree with the NRA, and wish they compromised less (Like never), but their presance as the elephant in the room leaves GOA, SAF and others to do their good work…
The weak-minded all need a bogeyman. This particular subset’s is the NRA.
Passionate hatred can give meaning and purpose to an empty life. – Eric Hoffer
And a particularly good example of “Lynch Mob Hysteria.”
I wonder how many of those commentors are old enough to shave?
Most of them don’t actually exist at all. They are purely creations of cyberspace designed and deployed to provoke and measure your reactions to specific stimuli.
This is the web folks, SPOOKLAND…
It is comforting to believe this JK; no one likes to believe this type of mentality exists; but recorded history; especially the last hundred years of mass death and slaughter instigated and supported by the statists/communists/progressives belies this type of wishful thinking.
The Founding Fathers understood this; which is what the Second Amendment is meant to defend against.
It isn’t “wishful thinking”, these people have zero power base at all among the American people, or at least what is left of them. Like the Bolos in the last century they use fear and a few fellow travelers to inforce their will. It has gotten much more difficult for them as the newspapers and TV which they once used so well are dying dinosaurs.
What I said is true, sad as that is, and if you investigate, you will find it to be so.
@JK, are you kidding me? Hell, half the population are of this mindset. As it is, this nation is walking a fine line between civility and full on stupid with all the meaningless death that accompanies that state of civil unrest. It is this half that gave us the clown in chief we currently are suffering under.
You are greatly mistaken. The bankers gave you the Joker, he voted to bail them out, remember?
Rome was exactly the same as we are today, no difference.
The Empire collapsed and fell apart when the farmers finally got tired of supporting the masses and left to go to the cities and get in on the government dole. Study history, it is an eye opener.
@JK, yep. I agree totally. So, why did you say: “It isn’t “wishful thinking”, these people have zero power base at all among the American people, or at least what is left of them.” Leftists/statists/godvernmentalists have a huge power base.
Most of these “people” really don’t exist at all, they are intended to stir you up and proke a reaction and that is then cataloged and studied.
The ‘net belongs to the Spooks folks, deal with it. They created it as a communications and intel gathering tool and that is what it still is today.
It is also a control mechanism, although it is not as certain and sure as the MSM used to be for them.
@JK, noooo, they do exist JK. How do you think Obama came to power?
Only 27% voted for the lame brain so it isnt half, come on now!
@Jarhead1982, 27%? how do you figger that?
“@JK, yep. I agree totally. So, why did you say: “It isn’t “wishful thinking”, these people have zero power base at all among the American people, or at least what is left of them.” Leftists/statists/godvernmentalists have a huge power base”.
Because it is so. They have nothing at all save that which YOU give them. Do you believe what they say, and it seems you do?
@JK, sorry bro…you have lost me. I have no idea what you are trying to say.
Umm; JK, this type of thinking; the statist; “educated elite”- “we know what is best for the masses” is the norm in Universities; print and broadcast news and in most of government. The NDAA and most of the Patriot Act renewed and improved, voted and approved by a majority of congress shows this.
The people that voted for Obama and still think he is doing a good job are less numerous; but to say that the Liberal/Progressive thought is dead and only a few believe in it’s message and that most of the liberal/progressive posting on the net is government Psy-ops is delusional, to say the least.
Lots of big talk from people opposed to gun ownership.
It is difficult to reason with the unreasonable and the intellectually disabled. They are the ultimate sheep.
Why is this nutjob’s murder story even here on TTAG? It’s boring, has been going on since humanoids left the trees, and has nothing, I repeat nothing to do with firearms.
Please, Farago, use your judgment and not just the calling of your wallet…
Erasmus
This hysterical shrieking is an admission of defeat. They know they are losing and will continue to lose as long as pro rights organizations, like the NRA, have widespread support. Their seeming inability to understand causal relationships indicates a surfeit of emotion and a marked deficit of intellect. As they increase their extremist ranting they lose credibility. This is not good news for Shannon’s Sugar Daddy and his paid propagandists.
“…I wouldn’t mind seeing a few NRA top dogs dangling from street lamps…”
BAN ROPE!!!
BAN STREETLAMPS!!!
Don’t ban street lamps. Garry McCarthy, Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department likes to shoot them when he’s on a toot. Take them away and he might select live targets.
Gawker Media is based in New York City. As a “new media” company with a largely millenial staff – of course they approve! They regard guns and POTG as “old” and “irrelevant”, thus worthy of being put to death.
Gawker Media = Hipster, along with Salon. One of the two put out, just this morning, a new, updated list of what’s hip. Clue there.
Lots of hate out there… Makes it hard to take the high road. Unfortunately that’s what is needed, otherwise I’d have some choice words for these people.
My choice words would be quite simple…
don’t bring a rope to gun fight.
Of course Gawker approves of these comments. Otherwise, they’d be at least trying to police their own… which would ironically lead to an almost complete lack of comments on any of their articles. The exact same could be said for the Democratic Underground, the DailyKos, HuffPo, WaPo, NYT, LAT, ABC, MSNBC, CBS, etc., and it would be totally sans reproach to point that out. It’s unarguable. It’s fact.
They are all hypocrites and savages, the whole damned lot of them.
It’s good thing that they’re only posturing, though. They collectively (much less individually) don’t have a set of balls between all of them put together, let alone a pair big enough to allow them the confidence of doing such a depraved thing. Besides, if any of them tried anything (especially given their complete and total lack of skill, coordination, control, tact, and wit) they’d never actually end up hurting anybody but themselves and their prospective targets would more than likely kill them Ricky-Tick.
They are all cowards and blowhards, every last one of them.
Confront any single one of them on the streets with their tweets, comments, posts, and rant, I can almost but guarantee you that all of them would fold like a napkin and begin back-pedaling as hard and as fast as they can. “Oh, it’s a joke!” Or, “You’re not familiar with sarcasm?” Yeah, tell that to the FBI agent that should damn well be knocking down your door for actually issuing such threats, ’cause turn-about is definitely fair play, asshole.
The writers are both thinking it but also encouraging it and allowing the readers to rationalize the violence through their writing imo. The only reason the writers dont just come out and say it is that theyre not THAT dumb.
Its much easier to get the internet in an uproar and let people say this that can easily be written off as “oh its just the comments section, people will write anything”
Since we see so many verbatim repeated comments, it may be assumed that FBI-run or other (Bloomberg?) BOTS are doing some of the commenting.
I think the problem is that those commenters, and many others, don’t actually know what the NRA actually is.
They probably think is an organization like the IRA, PLO, KGB, etc.
No. If they thought the NRA was like those orgs, they’d be happy about it.
… how can Gawker leave these comments up – unless they approve?
Their acquiescence answers you question, unless the question is rhetorical.
I’m being picky on the details, he shot 2 adults and 5 children, only one child survived.
Horrible tragedy, and the survivor is left and orphan.
I think his mother is still alive, lives in a different state.
Its Gawker. The slimiest sewer within the lowest levels of the progtard innertubz ecology.
Of course they approve.
Did the NRA sell the guns? No. Did the NRA make anyone buy a gun? No. Did the NRA put a gun in anyone’s hands and say “now go out and kill”? No.
The NRA is nothing more than a civil rights organization that defends the constitutional rights of Americans for the second ammendment. No different than the ACLU and their defence of the first ammendment. I wonder if these same bozos blame the ACLU anytime the KKK or Neo-Nazis march in a parade. I doubt it.
NRA Is the new Phillip Morris/RJ Reynolds…
which is why they must make the link to them being complicit in all of these killings…
Sort of like the NAACP in the 50s and 60s.
Some people just get off on trolling. They actually get enjoyment and pleasure from it. There is even a study that proves that
http://www.theverge.com/2014/2/16/5415028/internet-trolls-take-pleasure-in-making-you-suffer-new-study-says
Which once again, as has been stated many times before, what is the mental state of the anti-gun crowd. Sometimes the people who call us crazy are really the crazy ones themselves
“@JK, noooo, they do exist JK. How do you think Obama came to power”?
Lol!
Because the banksters wanted him in power, that is why.
They threatened to crash the economy if they weren’t bailed out, recall that? And guess whom voted for it?
Well Shazam! it was the Obomber!
“@JK, sorry bro…you have lost me. I have no idea what you are trying to say”.
Imagine my shock!
I know exactly what you are trying to say on the other hand.
@JK, yep. It’s pretty clear bro. You done got it all figgered out.
And YOU do exactly where pray tell?
@JKnTX, oh bro…I don’t. But JK does.
“@JKnTX, oh bro…I don’t. But JK does”.
Better than you do.
To paraphrase Major Payne: “I ain’t your damn brother sucker”!
@JKnTX, most assuredly.
You finally said something correct!
@JKnTX, only the JK knows.
“@JK, sorry JK, the intel boys and the bankers aren’t the idiots in the voting booths pulling the lever”.
You actually are stupid enough to think that means anything?
“Those who cast the votes decide nothing, those who count the votes decide everything”.
Josef Stalin
Hi there to every one, because I am genuinely keen of reading this blog’s post to be updated on a regular basis.
It contains good material.
“Umm; JK, this type of thinking; the statist; “educated elite”- “we know what is best for the masses” is the norm in Universities; print and broadcast news and in most of government. The NDAA and most of the Patriot Act renewed and improved, voted and approved by a majority of congress shows this.

BS.
The bankers and the intel group created the Obomber and installed him, the same as they created ISIS.
Typical Shannon Watts and Bloomberg mentality. Life must be tough living it that low.
Not if you’re rich. Then you can buy yes men.
Huh, hippies and peace-niks who wish death upon others? Who’d have thought? Then they’re always for disarming the good guys while they never point their angst and corner mouth spit at the people actually doing bad things with guns.
They are the true racist who only focuses on one group owning guns and not the other. Mersh.
Calm down everybody. He’s JK. That means he’s Just Kidding.
To Russ and JK. I did some quick research about the “crows foot” here is the reason it was made orginally and I find it interesting that it was made because an artist was extremely depressed. It later became the symbol you mentionedThe symbol is a combination of the semaphore signals for the letters “N” and “D,” standing for “nuclear disarmament”.[49] In semaphore the letter “N” is formed by a person holding two flags in an inverted “V,” and the letter “D” is formed by holding one flag pointed straight up and the other pointed straight down. Superimposing these two signs forms the shape of the centre of the peace symbol.[49][55][56] Holtom later wrote to Hugh Brock, editor of Peace News, explaining the genesis of his idea:
“I was in despair. Deep despair. I drew myself: the representative of an individual in despair, with hands palm outstretched outwards and downwards in the manner of Goya’s peasant before the firing squad. I formalized the drawing into a line and put a circle round it.”[56]. I found this on Wikipedia to give credit from whence it came.
Either way it goes it is still a tragic day when a person with mental illness sets out to kill. My son has a TBI from a car accident when he was a teenager. Even he knows how to manage his anger. When a person sets out on a mission to kill someone usually they do. Its not about the NRA. Its not about who is or is not running this country and it shouldn’t be about gun control Its about a mentally ill person that no one wanted to do anything about so someone chose to allow this person to exist in freedom to do harm. Even his own mother took out a restraining order. That should have signaled a judge to order a 72 hour hold on this person and then keep him there for a longer period of time but it didn’t and his family paid the price. Yes I expect negative comments and thats ok. I also realize that this site is being most likely monitored and all our comments are part of an experiment of some sort. Yep I don’t mind being a lab rat. Been there done that with cancer treatments. I just wish this person had been stopped before he killed his family.
Umm, who cares what anonymous internet commentators say? All the major news sites leave insane threatening comments up yet you don’t hold their owners to the same standard.
If this is getting you bent out of shape, it’s time to unplug the internet.
Now I KNOW the antis are all retarded:
