After the FBI released their raw NICS totals, this morning, the NSSF has now released the adjusted NICS firearm background check totals for June. The NSSF’s numbers correct for background checks run for purposes other than a gun purchase. To no one’s surprise, the June firearm sales numbers were staggering.

Here’s their press release:

The June 2020 NSSF-adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figure of 2,177,586 is an increase of 135.7 percent compared to the June 2019 NSSF-adjusted NICS figure of 924,054. For comparison, the unadjusted June 2020 FBI NICS figure 3,909,502 reflects a 70.6 percent increase from the unadjusted FBI NICS figure of 2,291,066 in June 2019.

The second quarter 2020 NSSF-adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figure of 5,451,599 reflects an increase of 92.8 percent over the 2,827,606 figure for first quarter 2019.

Please note: Twenty-five states currently have at least one qualified alternative permit, which under the Brady Act allows the permit-holder, who has undergone a background check to obtain the permit, to purchase a firearm from a licensed dealer without a separate additional background check for that transfer. The number of NICS checks in these states does not include these legal transfers based on qualifying permits and NSSF does not adjust for these transfers.

The states of Alabama and Michigan had law changes that affected their Brady Law standing which removed qualifying alternate permits usage for firearm transactions. These changes went into effect July 22, 2019 for Alabama, and March 3, 2020 for Michigan. In June 2020, Alabama state’s NSSF-adjusted NICS was 430.9 percent higher than June 2019, which accounts for an additional 60,109 checks over this time last year. June 2020 NICS numbers for Michigan were up 427.4 percent over June 2019 and account for an additional 64,748 checks.

Regarding the record number of gun sales, the NSSF’s Mark Oliva said this:

“These figures represent the highest June on record since the FBI began conducting instant background checks more than 20 years ago. The sharp in increase in Americans buying firearms in June continues a trend we saw start in the spring. Civil unrest, rioting, looting and calls to defund police are unquestionably motivating factors of why this trend is increasing.

“Americans are right to be concerned for their personal safety. It’s entirely reasonable that law-abiding citizens are exercising their Constitutional right to purchase a firearm to protect themselves. Our nation’s elected representatives should take heed of where their constituents are on gun ownership today. Politicians who entertain notions of defunding police departments are the same ones who call for strict gun control and even outright confiscation. These figures aren’t push polls. They are representative of Americans from all walks of life who are taking action and taking responsibility for their rights and their safety.”

  1. The Civilian Disarmament Industrial Complex fails, with help from the likes of tyrannical state governments and Burn,Loot,Murder the people can see the writing on the wall and the need for self defense.

  2. Any info on how many more people WANTED to buy a gun but couldn’t find anything in their LGS that was worth as shit for their intended purposes (i.e., SD / HD)?

    • Not a great selection.
Correct as almost everything shooting is in short supply since late March,my LGS’s are down to 50% of what they normally stock as to firearm selections, ammo selves are stripped bare with the exception of 20 ga. shotshells.

      • 3 store survey yesterday. Typically 1x 9mm SKU but several .45. That tells me that novice/TV types buying (have heard 9mm and think that’s the only choice).

    • I Unfortunately wanted a Mossberg 940 JM and a 590a1 retrograde and would immediately purchase. I expect a very long wait before either are readily available at reasonable prices.

I was able to get an over/under 12 to add to my collection in June so at least I can shoot trespassers with a touch of class and have a bit of sport before the missus opens up with the binary.

All hail!, the exalted and indefatigable finger of Cooter has thus typed.

    • This problem is very localized from what I can tell. Small shops near me (rural MS) have maintained a pretty good inventory of firearms and ammo. The big boys near metro areas are the ones getting hammered.

  3. I wonder how many were denied because of NSSF lobbying for expansions to the background check system. I wonder how many were denied who never even committed a crime.

  4. Guns+ammo+toilet-paper = a dystopian movie I don’t think I want to be a part of.

  5. Ditto my earlier comment. My favorite LGS Blythe’s,Griffith,IN DOES have guns & ammo somewhat reasonably priced. No gouging ala CTD. And a ton of fans and repeat customers since 1952(sold a few years ago). Winner best NW IN gun store 2020…

  6. Private Bone Spurs, Bunker Bitch, Lord Cheeto is blowing it, or Putin. Biden wins, dems take the senate and increase hold on the house. Our gun rights are toast. Embrace the suck.

    • Kinda, sorta looks that way. Every day, Trump will tweet out something mind numbingly stupid, and just digs a deeper hole for himself. I wish that he would see the writing on the wall and bail after 1 term. All that most of the public is looking for right now is someone who is not demented or crazy, and Pence is a perfect fit for a stable guy to lead. In the meantime, I am doing an NFA gun trust for my modern sporting rifles with my wife, kids and myself all as creators. That way, we can dodge the “transfer” prohibition when one of us dies under some new Dem gun control.

  7. Remind me why Alabama did away with their permit in lieu of background check? Seems like an odd change for a deep red state

  8. In other news the Leftard summer of luv in Seattle is over, wait for the next Marxist utopia to show up in a Leftard area near you. Stay calm and carry on.

  9. The leftards will tell you that all those guns were purchased by three super-collectors.

Man, I want to hang out with those guys.
