President Obama and his cohorts continually rabbit-on about the need to create “common sense” gun control laws that “keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people.” Gun rights advocates point out that properly identifying “dangerous people” and figuring out a way to prevent them from gaining access to guns to reduce “gun violence” is an inherently flawed strategy. Doomed, you might say. Demonstrably ineffective, even.

The better strategy: keep people proven to be dangerous (i.e. citizens or undocumented Americans caught and convicted of a crime) away from guns by taking them out of society. You know; lock them up for a while. Yes well . . .

“President Obama on Tuesday commuted the sentences for 111 inmates, the latest in his push to ease harsh penalties given to nonviolent drug offenders,” washingtonpost.com reports. “Obama has been critical of what he has called the ‘devastating’ effects of severe sentences handed down during the country’s war on drugs. He became the first sitting president to visit a federal prison, and spoke there about the importance of “second chances.”

Scanning the list of convicted criminals due to enjoy an early release courtesy of the President we discover that the category “non-violent drug offenders” includes convicts who illegally possessed a firearm. Like this:

· Sly Stallone Aikens — Hickory Grove, SC

Offense: Knowingly using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to, and possessing the firearm in furtherance of, a drug trafficking crime (two counts); District of South Carolina

Sentence: 360 months’ imprisonment; five years’ supervised release (April 29, 2005); amended to 235 months’ imprisonment (September 28, 2006)

Commutation Grant: Prison sentence commuted to a term of 180 months’ imprisonment.

And another . . .

· Alfonso Allen — Miami, FL

Offense: Conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more of cocaine base; distribution of cocaine base (two counts); possession with intent to distribute cocaine, cocaine base and marijuana; possession of a short barreled shotgun in furtherance of a felony drug offense; possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; possession of an unregistered short barreled shotgun; Southern District of Florida

Sentence: Life plus 10 years’ imprisonment; 10 years’ supervised release (August 25, 2009)

Commutation Grant: Prison sentence commuted to a term of 360 months’ imprisonment.

And another . . .

· Walter Breland — Statesville, NC

Offense: Possession with intent to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine base; possession of a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime; felon in possession of a firearm; Southern District of Indiana

Sentence: 420 months’ imprisonment; eight years’ supervised release (February 12, 2003)

Commutation Grant: Prison sentence commuted to a term of 240 months’ imprisonment.

Out of the 111 commuted sentences, I counted twelve souls convicted of a firearms offense; slightly more than 10 percent of the jailbirds released by presidential fiat.

While I’m for legalizing “recreational” drugs, the gentlemen Mr. Obama is releasing from prison were dealers (a.k.a. “pushers”). More to the point, preaching against “gun violence” while granting early release to people convicted of firearms-related offenses is the worst kind of criminal justice policy. The kind that gets innocent people killed, one way or another.

  1. “Undocumented Americans”

They must be newborns before being given names and a SS#. Otherwise perhaps you mean illegal aliens.

  2. A case of ‘do as I say’, not ‘do as I do’.

Half of the problems faced by society could be improved if politicians actually had some sort of standards and were held accountable for their actions.

If one of the many hundreds of felons released early goes on to commit a crime, could the victim of that crime have a case against the government?

  3. Any one of these, subsequently killing ANY inocent person, SHOULD place obutthole directly in line for “aiding and abetting”, said murder!

And the book should be thrown at him!

  4. Going by the post, the weapons convictions were for possessing them, not using them. Calling them gun violence criminals in the headline is misleading. If there is any proof that they used the weapons, then that’s a different story, but I don’t see it in the post.

    • How exactly does a drug dealer control his turf without making examples of interlopers?

Any drug dealer with any kind of size has killed and maimed potential competition.

      Two things for certain…
      1) Some of these people let go will kill other people and sometimes innocents
      2) You’ll never hear about these new deaths from the MFM

      • Oh please.

“How exactly does a drug dealer control his turf without making examples of interlopers?

Any drug dealer with any kind of size has killed and maimed potential competition.”

Citation needed. You’re making assumptions based on movies and GTA.

        “Two things for certain…
        1) Some of these people let go will kill other people and sometimes innocents”

Yes, let’s convict them based on your belief that they will kill someone in the future.

        • Quit making excuses for anti social behavior. It took a lot of work to catch and imprison these people and for no good reason he is going against the system that decided they should be removed from society.

  5. It would be nice if liberals would wake up and see that “their” politicians don’t care about gun violence, only control over people’s lives.

  6. Am I reading that right? He has altered “life plus 10 years” to 30 years, so the punk-ass killer will only be in prison for another 20 years or so? Why do we care? I thought I was going to read he was releasing them NOW!

Also, may I assume that right at 14% of those affected are of the African persuasion? Or is obammy a racist?

    • “Life plus 10 years’ imprisonment; 10 years’ supervised release.”

Exactly when was that supervised release supposed to go into effect?

  7. Anyone want to wager if these pardon recipients look like Obama’s son, if Obama had a son?

    • Yes indeed, what is the racial makeup of those released?
Does it reflect the overall prison racial demographics?
Or is it skewed in one particular direction?

Once again, something you’ll never hear of from the MSM.

  8. Obama was right to release these guys. You see they weren’t entirely at fault for what they did. If they hadn’t had access to guns they wouldn’t have been able to commit a gun crime. The most fault goes to the gun. That’s why we need to get rid of guns. Police chefs all around the country think so. And they should know. /SARC/

    • are you ignorant of how criminals acquire their guns? overwhelming majority get them illegally in the first place mostly through either theft or purchased a stolen gun from those who stole them black market buys and a small number of them will convince, bribe, threaten a friend or family member to do a straw purchase for them. also your every action is 100% entirely YOUR FAULT even if you are under threat of violence from another or any situation. You have the choice to refuse their request you have the choice to not choose a life of crime or abuse a tool (guns) to commit those crimes. the only exception is someone who is mentally disable and does not have the mental capacity to understand things properly and often acts on instinct.

you do the crime you do the time if you are of sound mental capacity you still chose to break the law and deserve no sympathy.

also never does the fault lay with the tool (gun) it is not capable of committing a crime by itself. a gun is no different from a rock, hammer, car, wrench, base ball bat or anything that can also be used to threaten violence or kill. guns stats that you never see are the orders of magnitude higher number of lives saved and violent rapes prevented by concealed carry of handguns. the average rapes per day prevented in the USA by women who carry is around 4000. and millions of little things like attempted muggings or car jacking where just presenting the gun made the criminals run off. grow up and stop blaming inanimate objects for the stupidity of people.

  9. The “war on guns” isn’t a war on gun carrying criminals obviously. That means it’s a war on law abiding gun owners at this point.

  10. I see that one of Obama’s newly pardoned choirboys was convicted of distribution of cocaine AND being a convicted felon in possession of a weapon — a short-barreled shotgun, no less. Meanwhile, back in the ’90s, the feds assassinated two people at Ruby Ridge simply for being related to a man who had once possessed a short-barreled shotgun.

    Politics…gotta love it.

  11. Obama has now granted a total of 673 commutations during his presidency, more than the number granted by the 10 previous presidents combined.

I wonder what the racial make-up of the offenders is.

  12. Duplicitous.
    He sucks.
    Liar.
    Doody Head.
    Flapjack.
    Sopwith Camel.
    Ventilated Hand Cannon.
I’m just randomly typing words at this point, oops. I mean I was.

I’m ready for the new year and a new reason to dislike our commander in chief!

Keep it leveled brothers and sisters!

  13. Most will be back. The forces that locked them up are not changed one bit by a pardon. This will probably embolden some.

  14. Many are still locked up. Commutation means that the sentence was shortened. It does not necessarily mean that the person was released.

That notwithstanding, I still completely disagree with showing any sort of leniency to precisely the sort of criminals that were duly tried, convicted and sentenced for crimes that deserve that sort of severe punishment.

  15. But if you are OK with the drugs they had and OK with the firearms they had, what’s the problem? If the drugs were legal, they probably wouldn’t be felons and would instead be legal gun (and drug) owners. This is not inconsistent with the ‘lock violent offenders up’ strategy. Unless you view gun ownership as inherently violent, which would be EXTREMELY inconsistent on your end.

  16. I don’t agree with Obama on much. Even this, reducing sentences instead of just ending the idiotic War on Drugs, is pretty weak tea.

I couldn’t care less what other people put into their bodies. I can’t see the justice in someone being locked away for decades for providing someone with a good they wanted.

That said, because drugs are illegal and not just everyone violates felony drug laws just because they disagree with them (I certainly don’t. Being willing to commit a drug felony says something bad about you. Drug addicts are losers — I just believe they have a right to be losers), most of these drug dealers are bad news. If a lot of them didn’t have drugs to deal, they’d be committing some other crime.

But, I’d rather lock them up for something that’s an actual crime against another than for a transaction between consenting adults.

    • Unfortunately it’s not always a transaction between two consenting adults. Those very drugs get pushed on innocent children, much of the time, the drug is given free to them to try! They try it, they like it, now they’re hooked.
Nothing good about a drug dealer.

      • the only reason drugs are pushed and have the huge black market in which to war against is because they are illegal tell people they cant and they will find a way period. Prohibition proved that in the 1920s with alcohol. the war on drugs kills more then the drugs themselves places that dont bother have very little drug problems if there is no taboo to it any more combined with education the kids just wont have interest in it. russia and italy both have a massive culture of drinking but have far less alcoholic issues then the USA. look at cigarettes and booze in the USA because they are illegal under certain ages kids think oh it must mean im cool if i abuse the shit out of em then they become addicted to abusing them. happens with sex too tabooing sex with out proper education leads to higher rates of teen pregnancy funny part is it happens more in strict religious families.

  17. this idiot always saying we need to take guns away from every one then he lets all the violent criminals who use illegal guns back out on the streets it is official obama is a social justice warrior who supports Islamic terrorism and inciting race wars.

  18. So if a drug dealer is caught with an unregistered SBS Obama will give them a pardon…

But, an otherwise law-abiding citizen whose shotgun barrel is less than 18inches will be left to rot.

Clearly it makes sense in his twisted mind. Release these “victims” to commit gun crimes and boost the stats to validate his war on law-abiding gun owners.

    • So the trick is, drum roll, everyone need to carry drugs, then you get a walk by the prez. Weell probably not, not if your white.
