Chaminade High School lockdown (courtesy losangeles.cbslocal.com)

“A private San Fernando Valley high school was placed on lockdown Tuesday due to a report of a person with a gun near campus that turned out to be a student with a boom microphone,” losangeles.cbslocal.com reports. You know, someone should show these kids, teacher, administrators and support staff what a gun looks like. Maybe the SWAT team could have used this incident as a teachable moment. The cop above sure looks like he wants to tell someone something. Just sayin’ . . .

    • … the kid would have to yell “GUN” instead…

It’s just an anti-gun, guns are evil, phobia with the “out of sight, out of mind” philosophy. Bows and arrows, crossbows, fine. Samurai swords that can butcher people and slice them in half, OK! But a pop-tart in the shape of Idaho sideways… BAD!! >_<

  1. Well maybe they did a service and stopped him from actually singing something!

I can say this and the lego plastic toy gun the size of a quarter has brought hopolophobia to a new low in this country!

  2. This is an inevitable result of the hysteria in public schools over anything that even kind of looks like a gun (or society in general I guess). This makes the contrarian in me want to go for a walk with a rifle on my back tonight, just to spook the sheepies. Boo!

    • I’m so glad I live in a somewhat rural area. Most people here do not immediately freak if they see a firearm, and i have even seen some guys openly carrying pistols before.

    RE: Heh

The way things have been going with police of late, e.g., Hofstra and Fort Worth, I’m just glad the cops didn’t kill anyone.

      • I forgot to mention the Keystone Cops in Boston shooting each other while trying to deal with the Boston Bombers.

  4. I think the only way to solve this is public shaming of the “reporter,” that way everyone can know who the complete idiot is. If it turns out to be a gun (and in a place where possession is illegal), that’s fine too, give ’em a parade. But if they’re stupid, I want the world to know.

  5. I’m beginning to suspect that people go to school to get stupid.

    Guess what — it’s working.

  6. You know, there is an actual thing called a shotgun mike that’s used in video recording. Matter of fact, I’m going out on a shoot in about an hour and we’re bringing one. So there’s your gun–on a college campus, no less. *the horror!*

    • I used to do sound at an annual event that the VPOTS attended. My colleague and I decided to refer to the shotgun mic as a “freedom mic.” much better than getting taken down by the Secret Service for yelling out, “Hand me shotgun!”

  7. This is what you get when you instill in your children both ignorance and fear of firearms. I guess that’s why they call it hoplophobia.

  8. “A fear of weapons is a sign of retarded sexual and emotional maturity.” – Sigmund Freud

“A fear of microphone stands is a sign you are a paranoid, California, liberal, idiot.” – Roice

  9. How about start filing false police report charges on these idiots? My dad was a small town judge, can’t tell you how many times he cited “ignorance of the law is no excuse” Then assessed a hefty fine

  10. Well, we certainly don’t need guns in the classroom. Think about it. There could be some serious problems when our teachers try to teach our children that:
    1. there is no God
    2. Socialism is the key to saving America
    3. Homosexuality is necessary for us to grow
    4. America Sucks.

My momma always said that, “a tree that will not bend will surely break”… but I got news for you. This tree will bend only so far before it snaps anyways.

I know that I would not be a good candidate for being armed under those conditions

    • If a teacher imparting an idea with which you disagree is enough to make you question your suitability to be armed, perhaps “under those conditions” isn’t the only place you shouldn’t be carrying a gun.
