The poor and the galactically stupid will always be with us. Except in this case, the gunslingers in question – in both camps – wear badges when they’re on duty. And as you might expect with two of Los Angeles County’s finest involved, the only casualties were a few pine trees and any semblance of common sense . . .
Chino police officers were called to Prado Regional Park early Sunday morning. They arrested the (Los Angeles County) deputies — Dejay Barber, 44, and Matthew Rincon, 24 — on suspicion of negligent discharge of a firearm.
Chino police Lt. Wes Simmons, when asked if he’d ever come across a similar scene, couldn’t stifle a chuckle: “That’s not fair for you to ask me that,” he said, before acknowledging that he hadn’t.
We’ll take that as a yes.
Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said both deputies have been relieved of duty with pay. He said the men brandished their guns in a “threatening manner.”
They did not fire at each other, he said, but into the air.
Ah, a couple of Biden devotees. That explains everything. Oh, and that they-only-shot-into-the-air story stinks like Michael Moore after a 5K waddle.
Deputies Dumb and Dumber are enjoying some time off — with pay, natch — while the brass “investigates.” Just so everyone’s clear, the standard of conduct at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department appears to be 1) get shitfaced while armed, 2) disturb the peace, 3) shoot at anyone who bitches about it and 4) get a paid vacation once you’re bailed out until the whole hot mess is sorted out. Got it.
The criminal inquiry is being conducted by the Chino PD, so it’s not like the Sheriff’s Department is investigating its own. But if the longstanding tradition of having the back of your fellow boys in blue (or khaki, as the case may be) no matter how egregious their behavior is any guide, they may be fired but charges will quietly be dropped. Props to the LA Times, though, for doing what most papers won’t in cases like this – naming the miscreants. And a good thing, too…how else would we be able to make sure two such deserving recipients get the IGOTD trophies they so richly deserve?

Brandishing your weapon in a threatening manner….I believe that’s a crime. I wonder if the DA will take as much interest in this as he would if a commoner had been the perpetrator.

Because many of the ethnically diverse celebrations in LA involve firing your no-doubt legally registered gun into the air, with the bullets coming down into the skulls of innocent children? And isn’t firing into the air a felony in LA County? And haven’t the city and county of LA spent millions of dollars on gunshot detectors /locators to stop this murderous hail of gunfire by eeevil gun owners?
So how many bullets did the LA County deputies fire into the air, and how many children were endangered as a result? Does anyone really expect the DA to press charges against these deputy dawgs?

Make sure that the gun grabbers know that it was sworn law enforcement officers who pulled their triggers in this incident.
Although I suppose this does confirm that assertion from the gun grabbers that more guns lead to more violence … because if I were sober and armed and two @$$holes started shooting, I would draw and return fire. However that never happened since the little people were disarmed against their will.
Note also the attitude of the deputies involved. Clearly they did not think that laws applied to them.
If any civilian, especially of any minority had done this, they would be in jail today facing fairly serious charges. No ifs! No ands! No buts! So how does the dept justify a vacation with pay during the “investigation? And is there a civilian review board to complain to about this OBVIOUS double standard?

Damn, Detroit is so broke cops have resorted to armed robbery. There’s a joke in there somewhere, I just can’t come up with one.
I wish we could relieve all the po-po of duty with pay. I doubt they’d complain, and the rest of us would be much safer…and there’d be nobody to hire new cops, so eventually they’d all die off and we’d be free of their scourge.

And these are the only people in LA county that the Sheriff will give a permit to carry concealed, not to mention they can do it with a “dangerous” gun not on the states approved safe list. Yeah, that makes sense.
I’m sure this is simple expediency, but the guy on the trophy has pretty good posture and stance. it would be a better trophy if he/she/it were holding the gun pointed at it’s leg or foot maybe, or in some other stupid way of handling a firearm.
I looked up negligent in the wiktionary to be sure, and it confirmed that negligence lacks intent. If somebody gets pissed (I mean the American way, but I guess the British definition applies in this case), draws a gun, and starts shooting it, even if it’s in the air, there’s no way that can be negligence. Also, in the states I know of, drawing a gun in an argument like that is a felony, somewhere between brandishing and assault.

According to many politicians in CA, police are the only ones whe *deserve* to carry firearms. Their superior training allows them to be safe and secure whereas the unwashed civilian masses clearly cannot be trusted with “military grade weapons of war” that “only belong on the battlefield.” Well, maybe not. If anyone from John Q. Public had done this, I have a strong suspicion that they would be in jail. Not only that, but we’d have to endure even more political speeches about gun violence and gun safety. You know, for the children. Looks like the LASO has an ugly incident in their hands.
